    Just bought the 4800, really just on a whim because the 3800 wasn’t in stock, and was a bit worried that I had made another foolish impulse buy, but thanks to this video, you’ve alleviated my concerns. I am so happy I pulled the trigger on it, thanks Man, I’ve liked and subscribed.

    In upgrading my current Denon 4311 I was considering the 4800 but the price is outrageous compared to the 3800. I use preouts to a power amp anyway so I don't need the extra watts.
    Then I saw the new Onkyo RZ30 with dirac included. Adding dirac to the 3800 brings the price approx the same as the Onkyo so I'm now a bit conflicted lol. My last 4 AVRs have been Denon but that Onkyo looks enticing for a change. I want to try dirac to see if it is an improvement over audyssey xt32.

      @@homecinemaking397 Any reasons to not look at the Onkyo? On paper it looks pretty good. Latest tech...new HDMI boards, dirac included. I have been a Denon fan however 20 years since the 3805 which replaced a Rotel. The Rotel sounded great but had reliability issues that I couldn't live with. I lost money replacing it with the 3805 but...that's life.

      @ onkyo have been one foot in the grave for years, reliability issues and on paper yes but in real life no, they greatly over rate there units. Just have a look at my Pioneer video, i dont want that unit for free. They are basically Denon and Marantz, Pioneer and Onkyo.

    From 105W to 125W is not a significant jump in power at all, especially in something like an audio amp. Speaking in terms of dB, it means essentially nothing, as the 20 extra Watts results in about 0,7dB higher SPL.

  • @andrewskaterrr
    @andrewskaterrr 5 місяців тому +7

    I’m glad that you came to the same logical conclusion that I did. The increased price is not worth it, because an added amp would be a bigger upgrade, or adding Dirac if you have a smaller room and don’t need an amp. If you have 95dB+ sensitive speakers you may want to go with the 4800h due to the 10dB lower noise floor. You can compare the measurements of both AVRs at AudioSceinceReview. The 4800 is a little better all around, but not massively so.

      @@homecinemaking397Sorry for the delay getting back to you - didn't even realize that you responded. Thank you.
      I am running a 5.1 setup, so no Atmos, and have had the 2800 set up for a few months now; Denon definitely has a warmer sound than Onkyo, which I'm more used to.
      Other than that, I don't care for the way the Denon is so much more compact than the Onkyo I had - and lighter. I also don't think the front fascia should be plastic at this price point (and the knobs); the X Series should all come with aluminum faces and knobs.
      I'm also not liking the upmixers on these new amps - since I'm not running any overhead speakers, I don't need the upmixers to be on all the time for multichannel sources, but they must remain on so they automatically engage for 2.0 signals.

      @@homecinemaking397 No, I was saying that I DIDN'T like the fact that the unit is more compact than my old Onkyo. I actually prefer larger, more overbuilt units.
      I don't feel this is a super budget model; it cost us about $1K U.S., and normally goes for more than that. It's still part of Denons X Series, which is why I thought the fascia and controls should be made of metal - incidentally, even the 3800 is made of plastic on the front.
      We're also running a 5.1 setup, so I didn't need more than this 2800.
      I was merely pointing out that my previous Onkyo had a brighter, punchier sound - the Denon is more laid back and "warm."
