Best interview on the overlap yet, Scholesy opened up like never before and it was a refreshing, honest insight into his thought process, career, his family’s life and the subject of autism. Brilliant player, world class talent and has retired gracefully. Legend.

As a United-fan with an autistic son aswell, this hit hard. I had no idea Scholesy had a son with autism.
It can be extremely difficult at times, especially at a young age. My boy is now 14 and has probably had a different development than young Scholesy. He is catching up to his own age and is a happy kid. Hopefully Scholes Jr. has a happy life ❤

I’m a foster cater to two SEN boys, one with global development delay and one with autism as their prime difficulties and literally had the biggest meltdown today after a hospital app. Bit, scratched, strangled screamed and punched me all the way from the hospital to the car and then trying to get him buckled in the car. So was so nice to watch this now and hear someone that admire first off but also just someone else’s views and speak so openly about it can be such a struggle but so rewarding and they’re so much more appreciative of the smaller things when you’re having good times. Sort of makes up for them kick offs 😂. All the best with your families guys you’re doing a great job ❤

Scholes is just talking how most of us get on with it... no need to pay stupid money to see a therapist when you literally have tv/family/friends/movies/food/drinks/exerice/books, honestly people just need to shut the fuck up and bear with it as long as it's not controlling your life; Scholes curtails those emotions through life/experience and he's happy enough to showcase there are downs.
At the end of the day... vanilla ice cream and decent movie? A bit of playstation and couple of beers? Reading a good Grisham or a fantasy novel with a cup of tea? Sending a What'sApp message to a mate of family member? This is normal... this new generation are massive snowflakes.

thank you Gary Neville for this interview, I am a 41 year old Romanian and I remember watching you guys on the TV and the great Manchester Utd squad of mid 90s - early 2000 play, but most importantly for me as I was only a child were those long range goals I was scoring with Paul Scholes in the FIFA games, used to make me so happy man, ... I have been watching a lot of The Overlap interviews and I can tell you none before got my attention and involvement then the 2 interviews with Paul Scholes, don't know why, but I really appreciated his openness and sincerity and honestly speaking there is a lot to learn from a guy that achieved everything and he stayed grounded and just a beautiful genuine normal human being ...

Anyone that finds Scholes boring needs to reevaluate. He was a proper no nonsense footballer. Played the game well and kept to himself. How he spoke about Aiden and how he obvious cares and supports his other son and daughter sounds like he is a great dad as well. It’s amazing that he was still able to perform to the highest standard while navigating the unknowns with autism. The fact he didn’t tell SAF until much later says a lot about how he deals with responsibilities. Great role model.

From a City fan and a born and bred Oldhamer, I really enjoyed that. Great to see my old haunt of Alexander Park looking so well. I think Paul has always felt comfortable among the people of Oldham, he's one of us. He could have so easily moved out to the rich environment of Cheshire but I think he craved normality (assuming the people of Oldham are normal) 🙃 and he has to be commended for that. I see him quite often and it's almost like bumping into someone you know and not one of the best midfielders the Premier League has ever seen and someone who is known the world over. I wish Paul and his family all the best.

Grew up watching Scholes from the 90's. onward. What a player..... I. am not sure there has been an English player with better technique, vision and game intelligence. .....an utter legend as a. player and even more so as a person. Its so refreshing to see a genuinely humble footballer. You can take what you do seriously without taking yourself too seriously. And. most importantly a proper dad - not one of these who call themselves a dad and do nice fun bits and pieces but. someone who actually puts their. child first - as. a. father. with a. son who has autism I could entirely relate to what he. was saying about it being entirely life changing. for a family. What are you going to do - handle your responsibility like this man - Scholes is a legend.

@@dickmonkey-king1271 Agree that England never quite saw the best of him, but you could easily put that down to tactics and the politics of the England team when he played (I mean none of them really showed their club form and that was due to the above).
But he won two European cups with United, and if it wasn’t for that Barca team being (arguably) the best team in European history, the United team of 2008-2011, would have won at least one more European cup then. He was integral to both those teams, so you can’t say he didn’t have an impact in the UCL
