I daily a 95 7.3 ZF5 long bed and the sound of it absolutely never gets old. New diesels being faster doesn’t mean anything the feel and sound of driving these trucks is beyond addictive

My 5.3 in my 08 puts down close to 500 at the 35s on pavement, 40-1xx mph happens RIGHT now, but my 95 obs 7.3 will pull it sideways with a few more trucks tied to it. I'm fortunant enuff to have best of both worlds lol. I'm very fresh to building diesels amd this is my first run woth a diesel, 43k virgin , already rebuildimg turbo woth 1.0 housing, ww2, 3" downpipe, straigjt 3.5 exhaust, intake , ts-6 , gonna flatbed it and work her. Ive been building ls motors for almost 20 yeats now and a lifelong mechanic
Haha it takes a long time to wear out a shift fork like that but I’m more concerned with the clutch he slips it way way way too much gonna burn it out quick
While this is true, if you barely have your hand on it, its really not doing much. Plus most shift forks were coated from the factory in a thin fibrous film, a practice done for over 70 years, it absorbs most light force on the shifter such as your hand and also makes the shifter quieter. You have to be putting some reasonable force on the shifter to do any material damage.

I'm 24 I bought my 91 f250 7.3 idi 2wd 5 speed not running in January for$850.00 including delivery. Put a new injection pump on and it fired up runs and drives good. I'm waiting now on my steering column to be rebuilt and sent back to me then only thing left is wheels and tires and it'll be street legal.
Haha I was waiting for a comment about my steering, I’ve put a new redhead steering box since then and aligned the steering. A lot less slop in the steering.
These old idi 7trees aren't meant to be fast. They take the quarter mile in an hour like 2 turtles stampeding through peanut butter. But good truck otherwise. I own few
@jeremy pollitt It's an 7.3 idi you dummy. There was no Powerstrokes in 1994. 1994.5 is the last year of production of the IDI and they came with a banks turbo.

I wish I could get my hands on a good manual Cummins. But starting over after putting a couple years of work into my 7.3 psd makes me tired just thinking about it. If I had an IDI I’d probably switch to commins, tho. Ngl

"Scarlet" has been good to me since high school and i wanna giver her a beefy v8 that rolls coal and can tow. And... has a transfer case so nothing can stop either of us from having a good time.
Little bit of a rookie at running the zf5 I see I have a dually 95 7.3 I only use the clutch to take off the rest all the rest of the gears are rev-matching besides reverse of course

@@iimgbillyrock it seems to be in great condition, it’s a 2002 with the 5 speed, it was owned by Virginia dot and second owner was a nascar tech the owner now has it tuned but it doesn’t seem to be anything crazy it still has the stock exhaust

That 7.3 IDI Diesel is a great engine and so was the ZF 5 speed.

Thanks! Coolant temp, Egt temp, Boost and Fuel pressure. All glowshift max tow gauges.

Thats generally with a 4 speed manual out of the 80s...they had a creeper 1st...the 5 speeds were meant to use first gear regularly

That shift into 1st at the beginning of the video is the reason why 1st gear synchros wear out first on like every manual trans in existence.
As soon as I started the video and seen he shifted in first I was confused. All my powerstrokes it’s impossible to drive in first lol

Not yet, factory head bolts I believe. 195k miles, it is a factory turbo motor though which handles boost much better than a N/A idi.
