Everyone else is dead, sans is fighting for a false happy future but his grief is too much for him to handle. They fight for so long that he forgets what has happened. He has fallen into a trap of fighting for a future that he believes is true because it’s been so long. Chara forgets the life before them, they forget the outside world, this is all they know, this is all they can remember. An figure that is so desperate to fight that it wouldn’t listen to words. Everytime they reset the figure before them reminds them of what they did. They no longer feel angry, they no longer understand right from wrong
The realization nearly broke the skeleton with his mission complete Sans was now just a program without a purpose the Victor without a war sentenced to spend all of eternity alone basking in the boundless Silence of his Universe Sans ascended to a previously unattainable level of consciousness
