  • Thank you for watching! :)
    Links mentioned are below.
    In this video, I demonstrate how Ranger Alcohol Ink Mixatives (metallic, black, white, and pearl) work with the alcohol inks. I used Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks by Ranger Inks on Mohawk Glossy Cardstock, and created a reference chart for how the inks and mixatives work together. I also did a mini demo of my technique for using the inks with the mixatives.
    This is a great way to start learning about alcohol ink mixatives. :) Enjoy!

    Thank you for this video! I personally have worked with alcohol inks for over 10 years, but the metallic mixatives have remained a mystery to me. I have not been able to figure out how to make them look good in my AI paintings. I learned a lot watching this video and am anxious to try working with them again and achieving better results! The chart is a great idea! Thanks so much!

    I was getting discouraged using my metallics because they just didn’t move the way I wanted them to. Thank you so much for this video!!! 😀

    Your chart was a nice tool. Thanks. I also like to use 91% alcohol ink and would have had a column for it because it does work different than the blending solution. Again, thanks for the idea.

    Per Dyan from Ranger, she states that when storing the metallics they should be on their sides.

    The reason the "Pitch Black" acts differently and doesn't have a ball is because it ISN'T a mixative - just a regular Alcohol Ink.

    VERY INFORMATIVE-CAN YOUU USE MIXATIVES WITH RESIN TO CREATE SWIRLS IN JEWELRY,ETC(USING REGULAR COLORED INKS ALSO)i CANT FIND AN ANSWER

    • @JessicaSandersArt
      @JessicaSandersArt  2 роки тому

      Hi, Mary :) Thanks for your question! I don't have a lot of experience with resin, but I tried a metallic mixative once. It floated on top of the resin no matter what i did. It did not sink, even with white. Others may have a different experience or know more. Perhaps #KellieChasse can chime in here!

    Hi, thanks for your tute. I am finding the pearl tends to clump. Am I doing any thing wrong?

    • @JessicaSandersArt
      @JessicaSandersArt  4 роки тому +1

      Hi!! Thanks for your question. The only thing I would suggest is to make sure you are shaking them before using them. The pearl in the ink may be gathering at the bottom of the bottle. My pearl inks have a shaker ball inside. I know they are getting mixed if I hear the ball when I shake it. Does that help?

    Thankyou is there a diffence between blending solution and 99 percent alcohol are they one in the same product

    • @JessicaSandersArt
      @JessicaSandersArt  5 років тому

      They are different. From what I understand, the blending solution is formulated with resin in it. It does interact a little differently than the alcohol, but not much. I find that I will use mostly alcohol, and a small amount of blending solution. Hope that helps! 😀

    Can you mix these alcohol metallic inks with artists oil colors? Thank you.

    • @JessicaSandersArt
      @JessicaSandersArt  4 роки тому

      I haven't tried it personally, but I don't think it would work. The 2 mediums don't seem very compatible. It is possible to use them on dried oil paint, but it probably wont be permanent. HTH!!

    Do you think the silver mixative would perform ok if I mix it with water and apply it using a spray bottle?

    • @JessicaSandersArt
      @JessicaSandersArt  4 роки тому

      Hi :) I've never tried it, but don't think it would mix with water very well, since it is solvent based. I also think it would clog the nozzle. If you want silver in a spray bottle, you might try mica spray, or mixing a metallic watercolor paint into water. Does that help?

    Hi Jessica, perhaps.you can help me please, l have been trying for ages to find a solvent that would make circles from the ranger gold, l appreciate its a mixative but l need a solvent that will disapate the colour of the ink from the centre outwards to form a circle and also may show a previously painted colour beneath, l’m sure there must be something l’ve tried isopropyl and the blender solution but they didn’t work, l don’t have any of the rubbing alcohol or the archival cleaner so don’t know if they’ll work, would much appreciate your guidance, thanks. Regards Jean

    • @JessicaSandersArt
      @JessicaSandersArt  5 років тому

      Hi, Jean :) I'm really not sure what would work for this situation. As far as my experience, the mixatives float to the top, and spread across the ink. Maybe +Kellie Chasse might know. She has an awesome channel with lots of alcohol ink tips and tricks.

    I’m sorry but I have to point out that you are giving out incorrect information. The Pitch Black IS NOT A MIXATIVE, it’s a regular alcohol ink like the others. I don’t know where you got this info, actually I found another video where you give out wrong information. I bought the black together with all my other colors, the mixatives came out a few years later. This is why the black moves,because it is an alcohol ink and yes it has a purplish and bluish hue. Only the metallics and the white are mixatives. So this chart you made,makes no sense at all,because it’s wrong. And unfortunately these mixatives they don’t work very well, thats why Tim Holtz came out with the alloys. You better read the bottle and see for yourself Pitch Black is a regular alcohol ink.

    • @JessicaSandersArt
      @JessicaSandersArt  3 роки тому

      Hmmm...I'll need to double check. This video waa made 5 years ago, so maybe something has changed. You might enjoy my more recent watercolor videos more.

    • @judithf9297
      @judithf9297 3 роки тому

      @@JessicaSandersArt Yes things might have changed, but not Pitch Black which was never a mixative. And you can very well see that it acts like an AI.

    • @judithf9297
      @judithf9297 3 роки тому

      I just wanted to ad Tim Holtz kind of messed up with the mixatives because they don't work well with the alcohol inks. Silver is the only one that gets on top of the ink and forms a line which it suppose to do. I still work with AI although I also work with watercolors. But I was not able yet to find a nice silver that looks good on a piece. For gold everyone uses Pinata brass which is wonderful, but not their silver. Tim came out with the alloys and those are very nice they mix very nice but there is a problem. Even when it's dry it can smear. Comes off on your finger. Only if you use a fixative or resin can be sealed.
