@@pattitolleyparrish I am watching , watching, and watching them! So inspiring. Busy staining, rust dying, going thru my stash. Getting a few new supplies. Ready to start a Cabinet of Curiosities journal. Even bought my first Gelli plate. Thanks for all of your videos also. Always learning interesting techniques to try, and you crack me up, lol. Enjoying all of it!
I've been mono-printing using regular tissue paper for some time now with great results. I especially like how transparent they can be and will meld with the work almost seamlessly. In fact, it is part of my over all technique. However, I have not used the 'shiny' kind - will have to try it. I love your style and your techniques too, always inspiring.
Yes...being able to get the shinny sided paper allows for a little more plate time for a better pull...thanks so much for your comment and joining me on this journey! :)
Thank you so much for this video. I wasn't sure how to lift the image from previously printed matter. This has opened worlds for me. I theorized it could be done on tissue paper, but didn't have the courage to try it. Thank you again for your help and inspiration.
What is that gorgeous stencil made of? and where do I get some. Love your videos and have just bought a gelli plate after a while of using other stuff and not getting the results you get. Could be my lack of experience but I won't know until I try the gelli plate. Unfortunately your favourite paints are horrendously expensive in Australia and our local fluid paint ranges do not have such gorgeous colours. I am a recent subscriber and Patreon member. Thanks for sharing.
Such a great video! I am going tomorrow to Dollarama ( Canadian dollar store) to look for this kind of tissue paper. You are always inspiring me with your demonstrations, thanks!
Love this "magic" tissue paper! Thanks for sharing the info. On the new paints, too. Prices on onionskin are edging up on ebay; someone actually listed a box for $300! You can bet I'll be doing a lot more gellis on this new tissue.
I know onionskin has gotten ridiculous...somehow I can't help for feeling I had something to do with that!!!! Who would have thought that prices would go so high. Generally few people even know what to do with those papers. Lol that was why I was in search of a beautiful substitute because so many people ask me about the onionskin. I don't think we're in danger of the $1 store changing prices anytime soon...hahahaha Thanks for enjoying the video :)
@@RobynMcClendon I thought the same thing, Robyn, about your being the cause of that issue - LOL! (Nice to have so much influence!). I'm glad I was able to get two boxes of it before it skyrocketed. I think the $300 box was redlined on the side and had "copy" printed on it, too -- not exactly ideal for what we do. Will be interesting to see if they sell it. Thanks again!
Dot from UK Fabulous prints you've made there and such a simple technique. I've been Gelli printing for a few years but not tried tissue paper yet, I have acquired some recently and can't wait to have a go, you have inspired me. I love the colour shift Folk Art paints you used and the mask with the holes. Where did you get that from and what is it called? As I was watching your video, I was trying to figure out how I could make one similar. Thank you for sharing. Love from the UK, Dot x.
Robyn, I love all the layers on the thin tissue paper. The paper you used as a stencil is terrific. Did you cut the shapes out or does it come this way? Can you tell me where I can find it? You always get me to play with my gel plates just to make organic texture.
It's called lace paper made in India, I purchased it a few years ago at a store that carries oversized handmade papers....I don't see a link online. I'll keep looking... Thx and so glad you've joined me in gelli printing sessions :)
Robyn, thank you for keeping an eye out for the India paper. I tried printing a magazine page and it worked beautifully. Thanks for reminding me of the technique. Your sessions have been very helpful in developing my gel print style.
Great question, that is an important part as well...High contrast glossy pages are the best. Black and white pages are the optimum and then any page where you can see high contrast between colors with the minimum gray scales. Again I find glossy pages are the best as they release the inks a bit better and of course thin well hydrated layers. Fashion magazines like Vogue, Bazaar and Home Magazines like House and Garden, any high end magazine works because of the quality of the inks used. I hit my local library and purchase these magazines for .25 each or sometime thrift stores will sell the magazines cheaply....Good Luck :)
Hi Robyn Being new to the Gelli art creative world. I have watched A LOT of videos on technique. I have to say that I have learned so much from you and I want to thank you for being so generous to us all, sharing your creative process and incredible talent :) In one of the many videos of yours, you mentioned about contacting you if I could not find Punchella. Hi Robyn! New subscriber here😃. I watched a old-ish video of yours a couple weeks back that prompted a question ... Hope you don't mind that it's off topic. It was a video where you encouraged the use of professional quality paints. That struck home! Can you advise me on archival papers to use as substrate for collage? I'm ready to up-level from my usual cardboard or mix media paper. Then also what's the paper you actually mount the piece on for framing? Did you say something like KVB? Thank you so much for your wonderful videos-- inspiring and helpful👍❤️

And then the backing papers as well as these papers can be used to print on etc. but do make fantastic base papers for collaging is Rives BFK or Arches here's a link also...Hope this helps take care! amzn.to/2Lhd70x Arches makes a watercolor paper that is not smooth this link is for the smooth papers both have their applications amzn.to/2WnUqJN In this listing is a great picture of all the colors these papers come in which really enhances thir use in collaging amzn.to/2LlG37U
Robyn McClendon As Minna also said, I thought you said that the “stencil” was Indian or Indonesian paper... and I thought it was very interesting because I’ve never seen handmade paper with big holes like that (and, in an earlier life, I lived in NYC and would go to Kate’s Paperie... I don’t know if it even exists anymore, I’ll have to google it... but they just had racks and racks of paper from all over the world! if I had had the money and the vision Oh the things I could have collected from there!). You referred to it as paper several times and I just couldn’t figure out if you had cut a stencil into it or what? It also seemed like you had discussed it on an earlier video and maybe assumed that your viewers would have seen that (it must be hard to keep track and to clue people in without repeating yourself over and over!). Hopefully you will see this and clear up the matter for those of us wondering! I’d also love to see the package the tissue paper came in! Was it just a bag? It’s going to be tough to figure out what the right, shiny kind is! I have a whole lot of Deli Paper, and I’ve been afraid it’s going to stick to my plate, so I’m going to try that with these techniques because that is thin as tissue paper, and has that translucency as well as the shine. I’ve been using it to clean off my brayers as I go and have a good stack of multicolored ones that I’ve used a bit and could also print over. You are so inspiring and I have so much I want to tell you about the Heidi Swapp memorydex punch and dies (basically I got em and they work!!). I was going to subscribe to you on Patreon this week, but I had to cancel my card over a $4.99 bogus charge (no, I don’t need “legal services” for $5 from Switzerland here in the US! 😂) and I have to wait 5 - 7 days for a replacement-ugh! 😧 Also, I’m not signed into my usual Google account, and I’m not sure what name is going to pop up here! Usually I’m “osofine” and have a spiral (special) icon. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🙏 I found you online at exactly the right time when I needed you and your art and inspiration! Warm Regards, -sam- (shhhh! don’t tell anyone my real name! 😂 This is so long and so buried you probably won’t see it - I’ll repost on my other account more prominently or on your site once I get the Patreon thing going!)
