My French marigolds got way too bushy and big and are overpowering my dwarf yellow ones and also some pepermint vincas I have growing. I didn't know those orange marigolds get so big! They are big and full of blooms but they are too big and bushy.

I've got an extremely tall marigold plant with only one stem but it doesn't want to bloom, is there any way for me to trim it back to encourage it to push out?

Yes by pruning as shown in the video. Is it in a sunny location? They love the sun 🌞good luck 😊
