Property tax must be based only on 1) the value of the land, not on the house on the property. If it based on the house, then that discourages the improvement of buildings. 2) Land size is usually based on the standard size of 50 by 100 or a prorated quare footage. P 3) property must be valued in relation to distance from the capital city. 4)The farther from the city, the less expensive it is. 5) The phone system already has a breakdown according to zone, so half the work is already done as you can attach value to phone zones. (6) Land value can be assessed every 20 years. 7) The regional corporation must be the only assessing agency to deal with land tax and manageing how it is to be allocated to the regional corporations on the basis of one man one vote which means that the population of each corporation determines how the taxes are to be allocated according to the population in each corporation, not on the square footage of the corporation. 8) One man one vote is among the essence of democracy, but it does not exist in trinidad. 9) The two seats in tobago must be the basis of the size of all seats in trinidad and tobago. 10) No seat in trinidad should be larger than the smallest of the two tobago seats. 11) The difference between seats must not be more than one percent of each other, not five percent as it is today. 12) Most citizens everywhere support property tax, so it wise to support some form of property tax. Therefore I say property tax must be limited to land value only. 13) the city of Port of Spain can be the determining factor in calculating land taxes. Furthermore that can be an o centivr for improving the quality of life in pos. 14) all the government housing in pos and environs must be sold to private development and have them convert these houses into condominiums and sold to the general public. 15) the first floors of all the multi story houses should be converted to business condominium a d sold as business properties.
I do not support any new tax and neither do i support property tax, i will support land and building tax. I pay too much tax as it is and that is PAYE, VAT etc. i do not make salaries like that of all those government politicians that make sure they dont have to pay taxes like the small man. Politicians in government needs to start paying taxes and make up new taxes for themselves to pay cause they make so much free money for doing nothing.
That right in the old days people pay land and building tax and only by the year not every month so why should people pay every month for property tax when it is not our faults and also pay so much when it is kamla and the unc that cause this problem in this country in the first places
If you want to collect property tax no government should: 1) DISCRIMINATE BY ONLY TAXING RESIDENTIAL. COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES MUST BE INCLUDED. Proposed tax rates are grossly overvalued by as much as 80 % especially in the countryside. Cut rates NOW.
When the ppl can't pay their tax they would increase it until the government take their house and land. It would be like part of America ppl leaving there homes and making tents out on the streets

It is interesting or even ironic that we have proportional representation only for the dead where cemeteries are sectioned off according to religion. We need proportional representation at all levels of governance like there is in India where there are all kinds of minorities that are supported by funding according to their sizes. The most obvious need for proportional representation is in the regional corporation where proportional representation in funding is absent, not to mention in the house of representative and in the senate. Guyana took a bold step and included proportional representation in its constitution unlike trinidad where it is most needed to minimise tensions among the ethnicities.

Mr Dookeran came across as having inadvertently been the cause of the disintegration of the partnership. With a constitutional majority, many changes could have been made by amendments to the constitution rather than introducing a new constitution. But sadly, that did not happen even with such a powerful composition of representatives. The present call for an amendment to the constitution must address the issue of proportional representation, especially in the area of funding thecregional corporations.

Annual rental value can never be the basis of property tax when you are not renting your property and do.not know what the rent is.
