Unearthing a 60 Year Hidden Treasure - THE Car that unleashed the Raging Bull Pt1 - World Exclusive!

- This time round, we've got something really rather special to share with you all, so much so that Iain would go so far as to consider it a career highlight, and that's quite something considering the cars he'd had the honour of working on including the Italian Job Miura.
The feud between Ferruccio Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari is one of legend and centres around clutch problems that Ferruccio had with a Ferrari 250 GT. That particular car has long been a missing part of the story, with a good friend of Iain's and Lamborghini historian Olivier Nameche spending decades piecing together the clues to bring this car back to light. And now 60 years after that famous confrontation in a restaurant in Modena, it may finally have been found!
Join Iain as he delves into the history of how Lamborghini cars came into being, as he travels to Italy to authenticate the long-lost car, and as he calls on a couple of handily resident tractors in the workshop to help try and solve another part of that legendary tale.
With thanks to Olivier Nameche for all his efforts that made this possible.

I really enjoy this channel for its subtle, un-hyped and mature approach. No blaring music, choppy editing or crazy camera work. No bullshit over-dramatizing. That is so refreshing on UA-cam - please never change this!
Well said
Agreed - this has become my go-to classic car channel - calmly and intelligently presented, with some genuinely beautiful, and fascinating cars.
Exactly
substance over style...and there's plenty of style.
It’s brilliant that Iain suddenly turns into an excited 10yo when he sees the car, that’s genuine enthusiasm for the work he does and loves doing
A properly misspent youth never gets old no matter how many years You put in ....
Iain's been cranking out the quality content... Just when you think he's found the most interesting car to show us, he's got something else rolling in the workshop doors.
Its a fantastic car, so will be hard to beat. The Ferrari that spawned Lamborghini, a true legendary car.
I couldn't agree more
I agree
Iain you're never on a wild goose chase. Nail it boy - thank god for people like you. In a world full of certified mad men, its a great there are dudes like you out there fixing cars and loving it.
"dudes like you" when talking about Monsieur Iain Tyrrell ! 🤪
Buddy, you've got balls ! You're American, right ? I tought so... 😆
@@marcryvon We might add an overly familiar "mate" here addressing Mr Tyrrell ..... Nobody in his right mind would go as far as "bro" or "bruh" though, supposedly.
@@manfredschmalbach9023 Nah. Mate's cool.
I used to be really into tractors in my youth. I'm cool now - I'm an extractor fan!
Boom boom! I suppose you're here all week?
@@thecorbies Don't worry, I won't quit my day job!
The “Helen of Troy” of the car world, this is amazing and historical. Bravo 👏🏻
I had to stop it after 10min to make sure I watch the rest of the video is the best possible conditions, I'm gonna love it
Probably the most amazing thing about this is somebody got quite a way through an expensive looking restoration and retained the original body. That's a lucky car. Whoever owns it now is very lucky and thanks to Iain and all involved for sharing it with us!
I chatted to Olivier Nameche over an Iranian Jarama several years ago. Such a nice and knowledgeable person. I’m glad you guys decided to unveil this piece of history here on UA-cam.
Didn't want this one to end, becoming quite fond of Mr. Tyrrell
Brilliant! Congratulations on an incredible find and thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us.
Typically understated delivery of the automotive equivalent of discovering Brutus's 44BC diary, documenting his 'to do list' for the Ides of March...... brilliant stuff !!
My Alfasud is not happy with you. Just when I think my ultimate binge watch (that is distracting me from HER minor restoration), I see the most amazing automotive documentary, of all time. This is, by far and away, the best video I have ever seen on UA-cam. 😀
What a beautiful placement! A Ferrari, a Lamborghini, and in between them the Ferrari that started it all.
So happy for you and happy for all of us to be part of it. The drama! Thank you.
With all that goes on in the world presently, what lovely thing it is watch a man with a passion follow a dream that hurts no one and enriches the lives of others. Content like this is almost as rare as the car in this video, Iain you are truly living your dream, just keep these videos coming!
Hello Steve how are you doing 😊
@@mariarusso1325 fine thanks, guess your an Iain Tyrell fan!
@@Steve-rv1ql Yes, my dad use to follow him on UA-cam. Nice to hear from you Steve. Looking for a new friend Ok
I heard Lamborghini tell the story in person to about six people. (Well, through a translator.) It was in 1988 at the 25th anniversary celebration at the factory. He said that he had complained to Enzo that the clutch in his Ferrari was too weak and had to be replaced too often. He told Enzo that his tractors had good, strong clutches and he could show Ferrari how to improve the clutch. Ferrari said something to the effect that "You stick to building tractors and I'll build the cars." I wish I had recorded the conversation with Lamborghini, but there were no smartphones in 1988. It was a great trip.
What can I say! What a privilege it is to get to see some of what goes on to authenticate a car like this. Automotive history being brought to life! Thank you Iain!
Funny that is, but I just spent a cold evening in the garage, restoring an 1984 motorbike, took a hot shower and was off to watch the next video in the playlist /I'm watching them with delay/, hoping to spent few good minutes listening info for another classic car and see it driven as usual, but then saw this one is next. Didn't know what I'm opening until I read the video info and was well, mindblown!
This is fast becoming my fave 'car' channel
The 'Missing Link'... Brilliant !
4:54 i got goosebumps when you said, "this is 'the' car."
*thank you* for giving us such rare, incredible content on this channel, time and time again.
Amazing, no words really but thanks and 150% right on topping the Italian job Miura, thank you for this content ❤️
I think this will go down as one as your most watched videos. Due to the importance of that car. Fantastic!
One must say this is the most enthralling unravelling of a mystery and episode of Tyrrell's workshop ever, so far. Simply splendid.
I think most of the charm comes from Tyrrell being such a nerd with lambo, actually has three tractors to self investigate and marry up the clutch lol. Thoroughly entertaining.
Hurry up with episode two, can't leave a man not knowing the outcome.
Talk about a priceless car. One does not get more priceless than this. The car that started it all.
Oh my word, the length of Iain going to town is impeccably mind-boggling… I’ve always been looking forward to new uploads from Iain. Being subscribed, YT actually never gave me a notice on this one, remarkably. Wow, Ferruccio’s actual car triggering the path of the birth of Automobili Lamborghini… I’m lost for words… Experiencing it with him as it is, made possible by Iain is such a privilege.
This has been exciting! Thank you for bringing us along
It's more likely Mr Lamborghini ordered a clutch from his supplier. Great piece of history.
That’s fantastic! Ferruccio’s actual Ferrari… You’re right, it’s even better than the Italian Job Miura, at least from a historical standpoint. Congratultations and I look forward to see how the restoration will progress. Thank you very much for sharing this with us, this is motoring history with a capital H 👍
Been waiting for this episode all day, fabulous as always.
I remember back in and around that era, that some flywheels can take two different size clutch assemblies, the flywheel will have two different position mounting hole's/threads. Just a thought. ?
Congratulations Iain ! What a story to uncover. Well well, when does the film come out? Or is it a book first job? Please please please keep up the great work. You are cementing in history the bygone view of the Great British motoring outlook. Thank you.
I visited the Tonino Lamborghini's museum and I thought that the exhibited Ferrari, literally on stands, was the actual "bad" one. Now everything is clear. Thank you!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Absolute Golddust. This is prime time TV...
"Hello, this is Iain from Tyrrell's Classic Workshop. I understand you own a classic Lamborghini tractor. You do? Wonderful. We'd like to borrow it for a video we're making. We promise we'll take very good care of it..."
This was one of the most "exciting"(?) automotive videos I've had the pleasure of viewing ... thanks for taking us along! 👍
This really is an amazing story Iain ,your Lamborghini finds are incredible I can see this being part one of five .Ha Ha .
Breathtaking!!! What a pivotal car in the modern history of 20th Century automobiles. Congratulations on the find.
What an amazing find, great video as always.
Loved this story time! Such exciting stuff for us car nerds. Iain you are THE gentleman of car repairs and car youtube. Pure class. Greetings from Finland 👋
I have heard this story mentioned so many times that I feel inordinately invested in learning if it's true or not. I'm so grateful there are still a few auto-historians like yourself out there to solve mysteries like this one for the rest of us. I can't wait for Part 2.
Iain, being you isn't a bag gig, that's for sure. Bravo.
This was the one you were on about a couple of videos back. Awesome! Now to watch! Thanks Ian and Team :)
Truly fascinating, and I'm certain if anyone can close the loop on this momentous event in motor history, you're the man.
I doubt that many really appreciate the depth of research and expertise that goes into validating the history of classic cars, but this video is an awakening! Fingers crossed that you find that clutch plate... in bocca al lupo.
Always a surprise we coudn’t expect…thank you very much Iain, your buildind an epic video library of the history of iconic cars, brands and episodes! Grazie 🙏🏻
Anyone who loves Lamborghini history, this is important. Keep up the cool stories.
Hello David how are you doing 😊
It is like a detective novel. Great work and I'm looking forward to the vehicle being completed.
Hello Russell how are you doing 😊
To quote Sherlock Holmes, "The plot thickens, the game is afoot" ;)
My dad was a test driver for the minis in the Italian Job the original film. He also held the title of smashing the most cars in one night when a steering wheel came off and he crashed into a fire escape which fell on a number of cars. He always had a limp or a pain but loved it.....
Wonderful piece of history you’re sharing with us once again, Ian. Fantastic
Thanks for so many enjoyable videos. But this one...what a find! Considering all the detective-work you're doing, you are now a part of the car's history! :)
Keep up the great work.
Your episodes are always exciting and entertaining Ian! Thank you!
One of the best videos yet. Super excited to watch this car progress.
Hi Ian,Tom here been watching ur channel for last couple of months, not your usual run-o-the mill car restoration brilliant m8.
His videos and content are so respectful to the viewers. It is a pleasure to watch.
this gave me goosebumps. To find THAT car. the Holy Grail.
Fantastic - what a story, and extremely well presented! Can’t wait for episode 2.
This is just unbelievable high quality content. And it can prove, or myth bust, one of the most famous episodes in the history of the motorcar.
Ian, you are a legend!
Always heard the cliff note story. Fantastic deep dive. So cool.
@Tyrrell's Classic Workshop : I think that the tractor you are looking for is 5c Cingolato, it has 2.2 diesel 3 cylinder, the clutch therefore could be 9 inch, the machine is from 1960 so time fits also...
I was warm and cozy in front of my fireplace, but still there Iain's episode sent me shivers and gave thick goosebumps. You are as legendary and unique as the cars you work on and show off to us. Thank you again!
Hercule Poirot of the motoring world, lol. Totally fascinating and compulsive viewing, thanks for sharing this with us, looking forward to the next segment! 👏👍😀
this rescued my hungover Sunday night ..... thanks Iain.
Thank you so much for sharing this journey. Amazing!
What a spectacular car to find. Hope you will be able to certify it as Ferucious Ferrari. Looking forward to see more. And I particularly like the way you add the comercials.. Always at a natural pause in the videos. A lot of UA-camrs could learn a lot from you. Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing many more videos of the great cars you are working on. Greetings from Denmark :-)
This video is a marvel. The fact that Ian has the credentials to be entrusted with cars such as this, tell us about the greatness of the man. I'm speechless.
This is a proper “remember where you were” moment. Amazing.
Amazing. Thanks so much for making this video
Truly a joy to watch this history. Great crisps and even better videos!
Probably the best youtube video I have ever had the pleasure to watch.
Incredible find, and story, and passion.
Very interesting you learn something new everyday. Now I realise how lucky I have been with cars over the years.
After the Italian Job we have come across another classic Movie here: „Raiders of the lost clutch“. A lot of evidence and mystery, so I can completely understand that the excitement finally cannot be hidden. Brilliant as always!!
outstanding this man is a true enthusiast , just a fantastic resource for anyone interested in cars ,well done Ian thank you for all these videos
This story has fascinated me since I was a boy, 35 years + now. I've always wanted to believe it, but suspected it was apocryphal. How wonderful to be proven wrong! Made me believe in magic again.
I haven't even seen the clutch yet!
I can't say I remember another cliffhanger that produced this level of anticipation! What a riveting episode. Can't wait to see side-by-side comparison of the clutches.
Amazing piece of history, well presented!
What an exciting vid to watch. Thanks for putting this together and sharing. Love the content.
Just wondering whether that tractor book has any info on which novel has the 9 inch clutch?
Looking forward to part 2
As a kid, i was into tractors, BIG TIME, i had tractor wall paper, model tractors, tractor pajama's, then one day it all ended, and i became an Extractor fan .................
I'm honoured to watch this channel's progression. Honestly, kudows to the editing team... However: I honestly think this should be turned into a television style documentary. Both the people involved and the subject merit the effort, and I think we all agree that this is more than TV worthy. Congratulations Ian. What a belter!!!
be careful what you wish for! Lets hope it stays on UA-cam and we can access easily at anytime/anyplace. Keep doing as you are Mr. Tyrrell, and everything will be fine :D
Those Lamborghini tractors are quite beautiful in their own way, I really like their pale blue/yellow (or is it orange? 🤷♂️) color scheme. Funky for a tractor 😆
..and is it just me, or was the Ferrari interior a very similar shade to the tractor blue?
@@aussiechris5904 Thanks for noticing the similarities ... hadn't thought of that! 👍
To me, similar but not the same -
The Ferrari interior was more of an aqua than light blue.
@@aussiechris5904 I was thinking "why that horrible blue interior?" - and then saw the tractors. - Aha...
Only the Italians could make a tractor that is drop dead gorgeous 😂
Congratulations, Cant wait to watch Ferruccio's Lamborghini 250 GT restoration in progress...
Iain,
Thanks for sharing this exciting find with us all. It's always fascinating, I think, to learn more about the people behind the cars we both admire so much. No doubt Ferrucio was a complex character indeed , but look at all he achieved. This Ferrari is a key part of the Automobili Lamborghini story so often spoken of but how amazing to give it form. I hope the 3 cylindri trattori clutch matches up.
Best,
Brett
Terrific story and wonderfully exciting forensic work. Thank you so much for sharing the journey.
Superb. Thank you for your consistent passion and content.
I never, ever thought this day would come. Amazing. Ian, you are a legend. Thank you so much for sharing this moment.
14:53 Love the nimbleness & excitement...The footwork is amazing!
Absolutely fascinating. And as usual, lovely Italian engineering. They even made beautiful tractors!
In this circumstance size matters! My wife concurs... Cracking investigation Iain. Best man for the job on the case. Am sure you will crack it. Looking forward to part II immensely.
It makes my heart soar and wee face smile to see proper love and respect shown for the mechanical. Thank you I.T. .... C.T.
Goosebumps! This channel is the only channel that can give me goosebumps. Always an absolute joy, but this time Iain just tops it up! I am so impressed with his knowledge and so thankful for sharing this unique automotive history and these wonderful machines🙏🏻👏
Holy crap Batman... That must be right up there as one of the world's most valuable 250GTs.
It'll fetch an absolute fortune if and when it comes up for sale.
THAT is "provenance."
Well, it’s not gonna go to any Ferrari fan that’s for sure…
I'm pretty sure Iain mentioned "the buyer".. and that his shop had been commissioned to finish the restoration, to me that would imply that it's already found a home
@@aussiechris5904 Yeah but, after Ian finish it will probably pop up in an auction somewhere. Owners will change with time but let's hope the mechanic stays the same.
@@indiebekonn Oh money can buy anything you know. Even love now...
Just the best. Thank you Iain and company.
What a wonderful story Iain, thank you for bringing it to life. Can't wait for part 2!
This content is absolutely next level! Wonderful.
THIS IS THE PINNACLE OF THE LAMBORGHINI STORY! Iain, with the information from Olivier Nameche and you're production of this video, it will no doubt become one of the most iconic videos not only in you're video library, but in the automotive world as well. EXECLLENT JOB!!!!
Absolutely Wonderful...Looking forward to more..
Absolutely wonderful!
What a cool piece of motoring history! She's in good hands, no doubt.
