The two greatest rockabilly singers of all time are Sleepy la Beef and Charlie Feathers .I saw Sleepy la Beef live in the late 1970s and wow what aperformance in Sydney Australia.
I've listened to this style of music from my crib. To my mother this was not music but a lifestyle and knew all the new dance moves from the jitterbug to the stroll. And for what you might consider a big girl could Lindy Hop circles around most of the dancers on bandstand and the movies. A cool sound and fond memories. To this day I still thank god she never made me watch the Lawrence welk show. Now I'll be gone like a cool breeze.
it reminds me of some early preacher guitarists i've heard such as ua-cam.com/video/vydaBBmFFG0/v-deo.html (lonnie mcintorsh) and also this one maybe, ua-cam.com/video/4GogiVjoc3s/v-deo.html (alfred karnes) what do you think?
I agree a 100% but I just love rockabilly in general if I had my grandpas 59 chev and there was radio station that played this music in Vermont I’d be happy
As a young Rockabilly musical talent myself, I can assure you, There will never be another charlie feathers. I modeled my singing voice for the better part after Charlie Feathers and Carl Perkins. Those little flips, hiccups, and that endless range he can perform these songs with, is harder than it sounds. Most would consider it silly or talentless in this day and age, i know this to be true, because I do it as well and before I had the charisma to put people in their place, people used to make fun of me alot and try to joke about me and tell me to shut up... but how about you try to do it yourself.... I bet you can't. Let alone playing a guitar and doing it at the same time. I learned, just like Charlie, to not give a DAMN about what anyone else thought as long as it made me happy. And they may have made fun of me... but they listened to my music all the same ;) Charlie Feathers had more talent in his finger nails by 20 than most people could dream to aquire in their whole life. As a driving force on the guitar eh I'd say he was known for simple chords and progression as a rhythmist. but played with that Hillbilly flare and natural flow and was more known a guitar pickin country boy with alot of soul Damned elvis, damned the Beatles, and damned the mass commercialization of music after the 1950s Given the chance and opportunities, Charlie Feathers could've Been the KING of rockabilly. He was a very interesting personality, a simple man, a rambunctious Redneck Rebel. He was what music needed then, and ever more, what music is desperate for now. Someone who lacks true talent will never be more than a puppet. And Charlie traveled to his own beat, figuratively and physically.
@@johnflushing9328 don't mention it man, this is a subject I'll never pass on an opportunity to talk about. Mainly the mass commercialization of music, the top 40 chart, and greedy "shoved in your face" marketing the record companies all did in the very late 50s and mainly early 60s onwards. It ruined alot of aspiring careers, and made people's music taste more bland than food bank oatmeal. Rock on brother
