The reason why no coolant came out is because the coolant level sensor sits in an air cavity and works via magnetism. This is expected behavior😘

The coolant level sensor is a reed sensor in a dry vertical chamber in the expansion tank. The float surrounds the chamber with a magnet at the bottom. When the float is at the bottom the magnet induces the reed sensor to close, indicating low coolant.

hooooly unko! you mean I DONT have to remove the expansion tank to do that? oh man, thank you thank you thank you. installed a new sensor last summer when i changed the radiator, expansion tank and upper hose. but the new sensor was faulty. the shaken (inspection every two years in japan) is due this year and it wont pass with the coolant sensor on, but I just didnt want to drain the coolant and remove the exp tank. oh man, dude. big thanks, im gonna do this today. Had the same problem with the airbag light too, after a mechanic installed a new driver's side window regulator. I took it to the dealer in kobe and the switched off.

There must be something wrong. Water must be flowing out. How else does it measure the level?
