Nice reaction. Part of what created Babymetals reputation of being great live is from performances like this. Small crowd, large crowd, Sun or rain Babymetal gives the best performance they can. You have to love that kind of work ethic. In this case it was Large crowd who stayed through the rain. Su has said how much she remembers this show because of how much it rained. You can see some of their stage gear is covered with plastic. Something to add to the history books of great performances by Babymetal.

Great reaction. Download 2016 (renamed Drownload because it rained so hard all weekend) was special.
The year before the organiser had said there was a time and place for a band like BABYMETAL, but Download wasn't it and they would never play there. DragonForce had other ideas and smuggled them in then invited them on stage during their own set and played 'Gimme Chocolate' with them.
Word had got out and the crowd that gathered spread way beyond the boundaries of the side stage they were playing.
So 12 months later and here are BABYMETAL playing their own set on the main stage. They were delayed for 40 minutes by the rain and while the equipment was covered and water was swept off the stage (there is a photo of their producer out there with a broom).
The crowd stayed despite the rain and BABYMETAL have been regulars at Download since then.
If you want to be exact, his tweets complaining about Babymetal were from 2014, Dragoforce invited and performed with Babymetal in 2015
@@autohmae OK thanks - I heard he was tweeting in 2015 about seeing BABYMETAL wandering around back stage and asking what was going on (as he had apparently banned them from Download).

THANKS! I fuckin love this performance! Su-metal was just 18 at the time but she works that crowd and stage like a seasoned pro...because she had been singing on stages professionally for more than half her life at that point and BABYMETAL had been around already 6 years!

My amazement is always with her jumping and singing at the same time from 4:16 to 4:26 maybe after some training it's easy for her, but I'm impressed. 🙂

This festival is sometimes referred to as Drownload because it often rains. Always love hearing Su hit that last note and hold it without any vibrato for so long. They seem to love the UK and I couldn't believe it back in 2019 when I discovered they were going to be playing in my home town, Cardiff in Feb 2020. In a hall that holds 2000 standing only! I would have paid whatever it took to be in the same room as them while they performed but it was only about £40 ($55). It was also very near to where I saw my first Metal gig, Sabbath in 1976. And, of course, it was an incredible night. Then the world shut down a few days later and Babymetal are now on what their producer, KobaMetal, calls "a hiatus". Subscribed to watch your fall down the fox hole, as we say. It's fun down here! 🦊🤘

I am sure I am in the minority here, but I LOVE those outfits on the girls. Mostly black, a touch of red. They just look sleek, cute, and mean all at the same time. Love it. There's a good reason this was the featured single from the second album.
They made a lot of friends among Metal bands by playing a bunch of festivals, and this song converted quite a few.
As is usually the case, the riffs are heavier live.
And Yui and Moa are joined by the crowd for many of their shouts.
Like a lot of BABYMETAL songs, this one has a positive message about facing life's challenges.
Metal + Positivity is a great combination.
Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。In an interview, Su said this Download 2016 was one of the most impressive festivals because of the heavy rain. The condition on the stage was so horrible and slippery that the 3 girls had to caution each other to watch their steps. (You can actually see Su slipping lightly at 01:53 in your video). But Su also said they were very happy to see the crowd waiting for them in such drenched condition. In addition, she thought the heavy rain worked as some kind of stage effects to make their performance look dramatic to the audiences in a fever. I love such a positive mindset of Su to accept any situation.
Last year 2021, They performed this song in each and every concert of 10 BABYMETAL Budokan. Su hit the high note at the end flawlessly with matured voice and made the audiences rejoice. I was there ヽ(^o^)丿

According to Suzuka Nakamoto, "Karate" is reminiscent of the song "Megitsune", which "is popular among international fans. [The song] has not only Babymetal vibes, but also has Japanese elements. Its lyrics portray a strong will to go on, no matter what happens in your life." The song is a nu metal song that contains elements of metalcore. Composed by Yuyoyuppe and arranged under the name Yuppemetal, "Karate" also features djent-like riffs, and a J-pop melody. Loudwire's Graham Hartmann described the song as "incredibly charming. Instrumentally, it’s also heavy as hell. The song’s main riff is way low on the sonic spectrum, chugging away in a no-nonsense djent fashion."
Kikuchi explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Yui Mizuno described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese.

"Karate" received generally positive reviews from music critics. Lars Gotrich of NPR Music described the song as "catchy and grandiose" praising Nakamoto's vocal performance, comparing her to Evanescence lead vocalist Amy Lee. Jon Hadusek from Consequence of Sound called the song, as well as "From Dusk Till Dawn" essential tracks from the album. While reviewing Metal Resistance, Jordan Bassett of NME praised the song, describing it as "fast and furious until jangling, arpeggiated guitar alters the rhythm." Hartmann praised the song's chorus, calling it "one of the catchiest pieces [Babymetal] has crafted to date."
"Karate" peaked at number two on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart on the issue dated March 19, 2016, spending fourteen weeks on the chart. The song debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, for the week of March 12, 2016. After the release of the band's second album Metal Resistance, in the week of May 7, 2016, the song peaked at number 17, spending a total of twelve weeks on the chart.

"Karate" premiered at Yokohama Arena on December 12, 2015, during the final dates of the Babymetal World Tour 2015, and was added to the setlist of the Babymetal World Tour 2016, performed on the first tour date at Wembley Arena. The song had its first televised performance at TV Asahi's Music Station on April 22, 2016. The song's choreography contained interpolations of karate moves, as shown in the music video.

Yes, it's raining!. Everything stopped due to the rain, but the crowd stayed though the rain to see their performance.

On youtube there is an interview with Korn members from that Download, and the interviewer asks them why they are all wet. Guess what? They wanted to see BabyMetal, and said that it was well worth it to get wet for it!
