Tony, thanks a lot for explaining your thought process on the collected tree. 👍Assuming this tree was growing wildly in your backyard, in the condition that you originally found it in, is it better to collect the tree first and then work on it, after a few years or is it better to work on the tree right away, while still in ground and pot it later ? Is the ground better or the pot, for initial refinements ? If you can compare the merits & demerits of the 2 approaches, that would help amateurs like me a lot before we go about collecting trees. Thanks for your reply.
I have worked on trees in the ground but you do not know what the roots are doing under the soil. Better to lift the tree and establish for a few years before you work.

When the tree is this healthy, what is the reason you don't wire it after pruning? I see you bend the branches several times with your hand. What would be the harm to bend them permanently? Just wondering.
dear tony i hope you see my comments, i see you have worked on a yew in dec, when is the best time to change the soil, i bought a very nice english yew , i have worked on it pruning is done , was wondering can i repot in a bonsai soil in a bucket or a deep flower pot in dec , YOU ARE GENIOUS

Rene Voortwist I am not in a rush, these branches need to thicken before I start work on them.
