Cool project. I was thinking it'd be a nice shop mallet. Then you put the studs in. Also one thing I would have done differently was mixed some stone or saw dust into the paint for texture and to add some grip for the leather as I prefer to tie my handles so I can easily change them if I don't like the feeling later.
