Not only India, but they plan to extend the production to include other SE Asian countries.
e.g. Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand... etc.
This makes India's order even more lucrative for them as it enables them to achieve economy of scale for the sub's manufacture.

I Think Spanish "Navantia" With L&T will be more suitable for india, As spain ready to provide Entire TOT with AIP technology and Spanish submarines are large and long diameters with 5000 to 7000 ton Displacement, which can carry numbers of missiles with it.

India do have AIP system. These Will be fitted onto 9 of the Scorpene class Subs.

German submarines are excellent, there was some issue with S80 that I had read. but that has been solved in s80+ but that is not fully operational yet

That's what I knew it as too😅...but i thought maybe Germans pronounce it like Palki did..
Whichever one can guarantee their sales of subs in Asia and South America will have a substantial portion of build and maintenance work done in Indian shipyards, that one will be favoured.
Simply put, its too expensive to simply buy stuff with no offsets these days.
Dear Palki, few mistakes you made and here is the correction
Conventional diesel powered submarines do not carry nuclear or ballistic missiles, they carry Torpedos, anti shipping missiles & cruise missiles. These are conventionally powered Attack submarines that can attack enemy shipping. These are small and cheap, but CANNOT stay underwear for months as they lack the fuel to do so. But they are very silent movers, they can track a convoy without convoy knowing it.
Nuclear submarines can carry the above as well as Nuclear ballistic missiles (most submarine launched nuclear missiles tend to be ballistic missiles as that is the advantage is that the submarine once fueled will be on station at least for a decade when its fuel runs out. so these have infinite range, but the engines make a lot of noise and easily detected. but the powerful engine allows the nuclear subs to be big and heavy & to carry world ending nuclear war load.
One correction - conventional submarine do not carry ballistic missile and nuclear weapon. That's the job of nuclear submarine.

I don't think it was only upgrades I think there are 2 or 3 subs in the deal with France
India is already 2 decades late and a decision will take another 4 to 5 years and by the time the submarines are delivered 5 years later, the submarines are obsolete in tech but new in condition. By the time China would have over 60 'new tech' submarines as compared to India's 6 (new condition but obsolete submarines)

Can build but we still not have AIP technology ! Our Aip technology is developed by our DRDO but its still not tested and not certified it will take years ! Current warlike situation is need of hour so we thinking to go for a short cut for Now !

Palki, you say these are conventional submarines andccannot remain submerged for long. According to you, they have to come up 'quickly' to the surface. The question is how 'quickly' is quickly? For your information, conventional subs can remain submerged for fairly long periods.

Requirement of submarine number is linked to Length of coastline...China having 18,000 km of coastline, while India has around 7500 km..so, for us, 25-30 submarine is a good number..

AIP technology can only give endurance underwater for 48 hrs max that too at idle setting which roughly translates to the Submarine just hovering stationary underwater or moving very slow. If speed is increased its endurance will be down to 6 hours.
The way forward is Lithium ion batteries technology that the Japanese Navy submarines use. These can remain submerged upto 2 weeks and at normal operating speeds of 10 knots

It is unfortunate that we are not able to build submarine by our won after these many years.
Emphasis has not been placed on conventional submarine design and development.
It may be a strategic move not to invest in this area, but instead rely on license build + indegenization of various systems and weapons.
One also needs foreign orders for these subs to balance their high development costs.

Bharat should give order of 3 submarines to each shipbuilder and whichever company stick to timeliness and TOT will get additional 3 submarines deal.
Bharat gets 9 conventional submarines which is the Target for 2030.
Tech transfer is the best defense deal any country can make for itself.
India should maintain atleast fleet of 60 submarines atleast 30 conventional and 30 nuclear electric propulsion systems.

I would prefer Made in India weapons. However, if I have to choose from Germany or Spain. Germany is a no-brainer. German submarines, particularly diesel-electric submarines are some of the best in the world.

Germany would win it, it is latest technology, stealth..proven air independent propulsion system. Also the experience if Indian with HDW 209 has been good.

Germany or Spain should make sure they get the money up front before delivering any submarine to India. Countries these days seem to be changing their minds and breaking contracts
very regularly. Case in point, the Australia France, submarine deal.
India does not engage in such activity.
One of the few countries that plays a straight game and does not bait & switch.
Although coming to an agreement with India typically takes twice as long as every detail is worked out.
