As a proud and extremely pleased owner of a brand new Tracey Tournament board (amazing quality and sure to become a family heirloom!), I wanted to suggest another way to play Crokinole that I have found to provide a highly enjoyable and beneficial solo experience. I'm brand new to the game and I decided to adopt an approach I've sometimes used in learning how to play a new board game - namely by simulating a one-against-one game. There's nothing earthshaking about this approach, but the 'trick' for me that made it really enjoyable and compelling was to utilize one of the 'Lazy Susan' accessories that I had purchased along with the Tracey board. Using the Lazy Susan made it incredibly easy to rotate the board each time I took a shot so that I was simulating the actual position that each player would encounter, and all without having to get up and move to the opposite side of the table. This way, I got to experience actual game play situations and gauge how well I could perform under scenarios I would likely encounter when playing against another person. I had a blast playing this way and look forward to utilizing this method going forward to facilitate practice sessions. Admittedly this isn't technically a 'variant' but I thought I'd mention this as it might prove helpful to others, particularly newbies. The only caveat: it's really tempting to use the freely rotating Lazy Susan to 'cheat' by positioning the board to accommodate a shooting angle you couldn't readily achieve in normal seated play. So I made sure when I rotated the board back and forth to line up the center of the quadrant with the center of my body.
The ease with which Jeremy puts those buttons in the middle is mesmerizing!

New to crokinole - absolutely loving it.
Suggestion on the 5-hole board - add covers for the 4 holes.. maybe secured by magnets? To allow traditional play.
Done right I don't think they'd affect "normal" players too much, and allow for a more approachable purchase.
It’s a wonderful game! I think that would be possible (just need it to be a perfect fit.

I freaking love Crokinole! I made the investment in a Muzzies board after your ASMR video (who would have expected a wordless April Fool’s Day post would make me spend $300?). My kids and I have had hours and hours of wonderful time together playing Crokinole! I’d love a Tracey board someday, but in the meantime I’m hoping to pick up a bag and extra discs from them.
I really enjoy 4-player when my wife can join, but I also like playing 3-player 2v1 against my kids, giving them advantages like what we call Eternal Hammer (they get the hammer all game long!).

This is great to see with the Mayday KS boards starting to deliver! That'll be my entry into crokinole, but man does that board look succulent!

Brown castle also makes a 5 hole board. Jeremy is an absolutely wonderful person. I was lucky enough to work with him and I’ve had a 5 hole Tracey board for almost a year. I can 100% recommend his company for a pleasant experience and the quality is 2nd to NONE. This game at family events is always the most popular. The board is always full when we pull it out.

I haven't yet gotten the card games, but I have so much fun with the 5-hole. I'm taking it up to some friends at the end of the month to introduce them to this next level board. I have 3 boards, all from Tracey Boards

Awesome video! One of our favorite variants is cooperative. We will place 12 pieces of one color on the board, usually between the bumpers and on the intersections of the zones and the five and 10 rings, and then using the other 12 pieces divided between the players (any number of players really) you are required to remove all of the initially placed pieces from the board as well as the ones you play. If after the 12th pieces played by the players there are no pieces remaining on the board you win! It is a great way for new players to improve angled shots and works well with people who do not like direct conflict in games.
Man! I love Crokinole. I'm not amazing at it, but I love having tournaments with my wife, and all six kids. Even my two year old loves it. You just have to remind her of her objective at the beginning of each turn and she does her best against everyone else. It's awesome! I have a Mayday board, but those boards look really nice! You missed what I will call "Drunk American First Time Doubles"!!!! This is honestly the way I, and a few friends, started playing when one broke out a board for the first time and no one bothered to read all the rules! It's simple. Just pause the rule about having to hit one of your opponent's buttons or yours is removed. In other words, by the end of a round (four players, six buttons each), you end up with MOST of the buttons on the table! The only ones that are removed automatically are those that hit the 20, and any that get knocked into the gutter. We played several games to the highest score of five rounds and it was a lot of fun!
A friend had a mini board. Hitting open 20s was realllly ez. The house rule around this, was on each players first shot, sinking a 20 counts as an invalid shot. This led to the 15 ring being super busy and the start of each game felt like a little puzzle.
Picking up a full size board soon. Even though we are all going to suck, we're keeping our house rule in play. Love the chaos.

Oh and this isn’t a variant, but our favorite drill is to set up ten Hanger 20s in a row, scoring 2 points if we score a 20 and 1 point if we get the off, so a possible maximum of 30 points. We’ll do it individually or compete against each other. Such a crucial skill that leads even kids to getting a lot of their first 20s, and helps your open 20s get better, too.
So do you and/or the pros also factor in which side of the button you're shooting with? I noticed you were just freely shooting around here, but I would assume there could be a bit more strategy with the fast vs slow side in certain situations.
Jesse- have you seen the 8 Disc “billiards” set? Just ordered a set off Etsy. Definitely a different variation and the discs could be useful for drills. -K

Just got my Tracey board in this week, thank you Jeremy and team! I immediately regret not getting the wall hanger installed on it, where do i put this thing?! :) and now we have to know...who was the worst person you paired with him, cause his face told a story!

After the crazy Devon challenge this is one of the first things I will buy😁 they should do a mini version though, it's a big boy😂

Does playing on a board with a circle rim make for a better playing experience than compared to older boards that are hexagon / octagonal? The rounded boards look pretty but are almost double the price
A round board will give you a more consistent shooting position since no matter where you are in your chair, you've got the same round rim your arm is going over at the same distance away from you, where a hex board may give you a bit of a different result. Can't speak on price comparisons without seeing the boards to see how they are made. My first board was oct. but the surface was 1 1/2 " smaller than the NCA official size, and many older boards of that shape I've seen were the same.

I just want to know how they make that round outer wall. Wood doesn't bend like that easily.
@@phaedruscj3330 you can wet the wood an then it bends a bit easier. You also need the right type. Then you bend it and hold it in clamps for hours / days so it holds it shape. Eventually it wants to unbend, but because it's glued, it won't.
The 5 hole board should come with plugs that can fill them so you have both boards in one. I don't know any casual hobbyist that would get both of these boards. I have a gaming company, have hundreds of board games... I wouldn't get this extra board just for the 5 hold variant game.
It is an extra expense for sure. It has earned a place in our regular rotation especially when playing 2v2

Growing up we always would play that if someone hits a 20 the puck stays in the 20 hole and the opponent gets to try to shot it out.
