Crokinole is a dexterity traditional game.
Crokinole is played on a circular wooden board, with wooden circular disks as playing pieces.
Players take turns shooting disks across the circular wooden board by flicking the disks with their fingers. Players try to land their disks in scoring regions on the board, with the highest scoring area the recessed hole in the very center of the board. Each round, each player/side alternately shoots a set number of disks (usually 12 or 8), shooting one disk each turn.
As a traditional game, there are often many variations played, but the following method is based on the National Crokinole Association's rules which also govern the World Crokinole Championship.
Players must position their disk on the start of each of their turns in their quadrant in front of them, touching the outer scoring ring boundary.
If there are no opponent's disks on the board, they must aim for the center of the board.
If there is an opponent's disk on the board, they must aim and hit an opponent's piece first, either directly, or by a carrom shot.
The center recessed hole is worth 20 points, and disks are removed and scored at the end of the round if they land in the center hole.
Disks that are outside the outer scoring ring at the end of each shot, or are touching the outer scoring ring at the end of each shot, are removed from play for the round.
Scoring is by cancellation scoring (e.g. Player/Side One scores 250, and Player/Side Two scores 225, Player/Side One scores 25.)
It is usually played as a two-player game or as a four-player game with partners.
Play is to a set score, usually the first player/side to 100.
Alternately, play is set at "Match Scoring" where the winner of each round scores 2 points, and if a tie, each player scores 1 point. A "game" is usually played to four rounds, with the winner of each "game" being the one with the most points. The numbers of "games" in a match is set by the tournament.
The World Crokinole Championship uses "Match Scoring."

I'd love to own a crokinole board one of these days... thanks for the content. Quack!
We need more crokinole videos!
XD I hear you!
I was encouraged to buy a crokinole board after seeing some of your previous videos on the game. Got it last Thursday and have been playing everyday! Jeremy has the best instructional videos on the game out there so I’ve been watching through all of his stuff - love seeing him here on Quackalope as well. Thanks for the great video and for introducing me to the greatest game on earth 🥳
Simple to learn and tough to master is the perfect description. However, compared to other games that can be described this way (Go comes to mind), you can still have a lot of fun as a complete beginner. I brought my board to a Thanksgiving party tonight and it was a hit even though nobody at the party had even heard of the game. We played for hours with much of the time spent with me just watching the others pairing off against each other. I got them started, and the games just kept going. I'd agree it's (at least one of) the best games on Earth.
Thanks for this video. The brewery near us just installed three tables with boards on them and we needed a quick rundown
Awesome summary! Love this game.
Fantastic video, I knew nothing about this game until watching this (short of you mentioning it all the time). Really enjoyed this video
Thanks for the video...just FYI "dexterity" is spelled wrong in the video thumbnail....
Crockinole
Can confirm, there isn't a simple Crokinol video after a cursory search. Thanks for this, definitely looks like fun!
Crokinole is a really fun dexterity game that is easy to learn but hard to master and I am loving my new Tracey Board. Jeremy and the folks at Tracey Boards are top notch and their customer service is excellent! Highly recommend!
Awesome, today I got my board from Jeremy! Shipping only takes a bit more than one week from the order to arrival in Germany. And the board is absolutely fantastic!
Thanks for the introduction of this game!
That's quick :D Was vat+ custom very expensive? I'm from The Netherlands and that was holding me back to order from Canada.
@@annebethkuijs9442 vat, I can't remember but I checked my Mails for shipping. This was 210CAD to Germany.
I like that you finally did the rules for Crokinole as I never knew them, and it sounds like a lot of people play it in CAN.
Thanks again for your Crokinole ASMR video. It’s the reason I purchased a Muzzies board and other items from Tracey.
Ty for the video!
Yes, great video, Jesse! I have the ambition to own a board myself one day. It’s not easy to get a manufacturer here in Europe, at least that I know of. This video made me want it more xD
Yes! This video is fantastic! Quack all the way!
Sounds like a fun little dexterity game.
So amazing!!! I want one so bad now!
Looks cool!
Lovely game
Great video. I've just purchased a tournament board. Would you advise to always use the powder? I haven't as yet as I'm so impressed with the glide as it is. Thanks Jesse. 🥃🎲🇬🇧
One thing I'd like to have clarified. The inner circle (15-point?) line appears to have two different functions when a button is touching that line. It counts as being "in" for the purposes of "shoot for the middle", but it counts as "out" for the purposes of scoring at the end of the round, and only scores 10 points. Is this correct?
That’s correct!
Looking at the Mayday board I just got, it really seems like they did the bare minimum for varnish. I can still feel the wood grain and they don't slide that smoothly, even when the buttons and board are waxed. I guess it really makes a big difference
I think I’m in the same situation. I bought the same wax as Jeremy mentions on his channel. I know my mayday board is a jumping off point to a more expensive board, but I just wish the surface would become buttery smooth. I won’t do it, but I wonder why just a basic furniture polish wouldn’t do the trick.
@@11PONCHO11 I'm going to try and varnish mine, then buff it smooth to see if I can get a better play surface
@@mattfikes9680 Will you have to do any mild stripping of surface? My father was more of the wood worker than me.
I have the Mayday board as well, very solid board for the price. Makes me wish I just got a Tracey board to begin with. After I used pure carnauba wax for several coats, I felt that it sort of filled in the "cracks". However I am not sure that they will ever go away for a buttery smooth board unfortunately.
Was just watching your other video with him about crokinole yesterday! Going to order a game from his website in the future for sure? Where is the quack promo code?
Quack! for crokinole and the algorithm
Love this!! Was Crokinole present at GenCon? I do have a clarifying question: scenario: no opponent's button on the board, i have one button in the middle. i shoot my current button towards the middle, it goes through and out of the middle and doesnt touch my other button in the middle: does my current button (which is sitting outside the middle) come off? I think we've been playing this wrong. we've said so long as you have a button in the middle (usually the older button, not the current button), you're safe. sounds like we may be playing it wrong but wanted to clarify.
It looks like a great game!
Just curious though, is there any maintenance to do on the board? eg, wax it sometimes?
Yes Tracey has some great videos on waxing the board
Is the board in the video the Tracy tour grey rock board?
Greatest game on earth!!
Question about the rules. What if your opponent has multiple buttons on the board. Does it matter which one you try to make contact? Does it have to be the most played button or can it be any?
hit any one
If you sink it in the does it still have to make contact with the opponents puck
Is the top url broken?
This game look awesome! Damn it stop making me buy stuff!
I had never heard of Crokinole until Quackalope. Now I'm feeling FOMO...
QUACK IT!!!!!
Wax on wax off
Yep!
Always wanted to play this, but the board is the problem. Probably why this game isnt more wide spread.
Another AMAZING THINGS OF MANY THAT US CANADIANS INVENTED AND GAVE TO THE WORLD
Ummm your thumby is misspelled.
You haven't heard of carrom haven't you
Algorithm comment
Don’t know if your aware but Amazon has an exclusive Dr. Strange Marvel United character.
Not watching. No interest in dexterity games, as my dexterity in D&D is at best a 2 on the highest 3 of 5d6. Just leaving a comment (and a like) for the algorithm
