    Costing a slate roof in the UK is not that difficult and in this video I show you all the materials used to slate a roof in the UK and how much they cost. I also give you a cost per square meter which includes labour.

I developed this business into four convenience stores and a petrol station before selling up in 1990. By then I was debt free and moved my young family to live in Florida until returning to live in the UK in 2000.

    Hi Jim, can you have a heat recovery system in a brick & block build with gas boiler?

    Would love to know your views/experience with synthetic slates and also 'warm roofs' i.e insulation on top of rafters

      Hi @zororat It is really beyond my expertise. As a developer the choices are often about cost effectiveness, otherwise we have to purchase the land cheaper as that is the only way we can protect our margin. To most house purchasers as roof is a roof, which of course it is not, but trying to persuade them otherwise i.e. to come up with more money would be near impossible. However, for self-builders they understand the benefits of higher insulation levels and prepared to pay for them. I would say that this can be a source of diminishing returns.
