Really enjoyed this video. It has cheered me up during my extended stay in hospital with my new baby Louisa, who is in NICU following a difficult delivery.
Ah Alex - she's here and what a beautiful name. I'm so sorry she's not had an easy entry into the world but try to rest, you've done an AMAZING thing, and get strong for her and I'm sure you'll have her in your arms soon. Sending ALL my love - let me know how you are tomorrow xxx
SJ Strum Thanks for the lovely reply. Baby is responding well to treatment but we're looking at next week for possible going home as long as test results prove positive. X
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
@Imran Layton Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I’m french, my name is Lilou and I didn’t expect to find my name in this list AT ALL ! Thank you ❤️ I also love my name haha I think it fits me well And you are right, it was a nickname for Liliane, Eline, Eloïse ... My parents found it in the film « the fifth element » since the main character is named Leeloo (althought they chose a french writing) However, my little brother doesn’t have a french name: his name is a word in english which is : Swan 😊

I studied French so do love how they sound, though my parents would never be able to pronounce them properly so it would drive me mad! My favourites are Noémie, Eléonore, Maëlys (pronounced like Miley), Clémence, Maëlle, Anaëlle, Adeline... so many cute ones! I like that they sound familiar but different to English names. I’d love you to do Welsh names and maybe something a bit different like Japanese or Arabic or something 😊
I love your videos! I became addicted to them when we struggled to name our second baby boy who was born in April. My husband is French and we live in Normandy. Léandre was actually one of my favorites, and I liked Etienne too. My husband specialized in anglo-norman history and kept suggesting names used in medieval Normandy like Anselme, Orderic, and Enguerrand. French names 🌸 Sylvie, Chloé, Fleur, Margaux, Louise, Léa, Cyan, Mathilde, Manon, Claudine... so pretty! Can you do Spanish spunky names? Or classics Like Lourdes, Ines, Clara, Carmen, Alma Nature: Luna, Alba, Flor, Sol, Mar 🍬
Hi SJ ! First, you look absolutely STUNNING in white and yellow ! ❤ Leandre would be pronounced "Lay-uhn-druh" but more like a single syllable name ! All the other names you nailed the pronunciation !!! 😍 xoxo from a French island girl !! ❤
In french we usually don’t pronounce the “e” at the end of names 😊 And the first “a” in Maeva and Marielle are pronounced like the “a” in “cat” 🐱 😃 I‘ve had Marielle on my list for years, but pretty sure baby #3 is a boy again 😅 Love from Switzerland 🇨🇭❤️
DelphineAnnie1990 oooh that’s actually hard for me to even say with the a like that 😂 so funny how accents and sounds work; oh you never know! I was convinced I was having a boy and along cane little Evelina! Xxx
SJ Strum I haven't even been watching for more than a few weeks and I've already watched them all, I have such a long list of amazing baby names and most-if not all- of them are from baby name Mondays, do that you very much!
I went to school with a boy named Etienne. Everyone called him ET for short, but I loved his full name. I always thought Etienne was the French form of Ethan. 🤷 You learn something new everyday!!🤓
SJ you are delightful & I love your positive vibes ❤ .So I need your opinion- I have 3 daughters named- Isabella Blossom,Amelia rose & Angelina lilly & expecting our 4th baby girl ,loving Maeva Bluebell what do you think?I would appreciate your opinion since you have amazing taste ❤
Hi SJ, I love watching your baby name Monday videos and was wondering if you could make a classical music baby names video. I am finding it especially difficult to find boy names that I like as most musical names are for girls. Thanks for reading this if you got a chance, I can't wait to see what videos you'll make next :)
Yay ! So happy that you tackled the french names ;) It's really hard to correct pronounciation because sometimes i can't think of anything that sounds similar in english like the sound -en from Bastien or Leandre (r sound - you know...) Maeva is said more like its two words Ma and Eva we don't say the same ae sound (don't know if what i say make any sense at all) You were spot on with Solène, Etienne, Benoît, Estée (although in french Estelle is more used i think) Some more french names you might like : Mathilde, Alix, Léonie or Agathe for girls (what do you think ?) and for boys Jules, Antoine, Marius or Camille (gender neutral name) It's funny to think that some french enthousiastic might choose a french name while i named my boys Eliott and Henry ;) because i love England so much !
Ha ha - yes it's always finding something that sounds unique to your own ears! I have a german friend called Claire who loved her name as it was so unique and I couldn't understand and I had about 5 claire's in my class at school!! Love those choices; especially Marius and Agathe. Gorgeous xx
Oh poor Claire (just kidding, my name is Claire too btw) it's so true. In my case i looove traditional english names and there are not so popular where i live, yet they don't sound completely crazy choices. Glad you liked some of these names ;)
It's such a pretty name just amazing how a name can be unique in other countries! I love my husband's name Henrik; but it's so common in Sweden :-)) xxx
I've been watching your videos and it's so weird how some names sound cool for an English speaker but for a Portuguese speaking person, they're just words hahahaah like Solene is just the word for solemn. In another video you've made, you said the name "mariposa" which is also just a name for an animal in my culture. That being said, I'd suggest a video with Brazilian names! My country is a melting pot of cultures but we mainly take from indigenous and african languages mixed with Portuguese when it comes to naming traditions. Names like Iara, Janaína, Jussara, Thiago, Mayara, Kayke, Sol, Dandara...
One of the best parts of being "namers" is exploring global names and hearing different pronunciations. Also hearing about people's differing tastes across regions. And of course discovering a name we've never heard! Nice reply.. Iara and Dandara intrigue us:)
I loved this list; I'm going through a phase of French/Italian names at the minute. One of my current favourite French names is Oceane (pronounced Oh-See-En). Solene, Olivier and Maeva are stunning!! I've been liking the idea of Estee and Lilou as twins, nicknamed Star and Lily - so cute.
Hi, I grew up in France and have definitely come across many of the names you mentioned. The girls names seems much more common to be and knew quite a few of them but the boys seem more unsusual to me and would probably be lower ranking :) Also love the boy names like Nolan Enzo Theo !
I love Liliou & Olivier, but my fave is Etienne, because my son is named Stefan in memory of my father & grandfather. Aren’t French names just so beautiful & elegant? Well done, SJ! My favorite French girl name is Cosette. 😊❤️❤️
I live in a very French little community in Canada and I know someone with all those names except Maeva. My puppy's name is Lily and I constantly call her Lilou lol I didn't even know that was a legit name. I know one Bastien, one Olivier, two Etienne, oh actually the only Estee I know is Estee Lauder. I know one Leondre. The end of Leondre is pronounced like London in French...Londre. I won't have anymore kids, but still fun to watch. Estelle is more common here over Estee. I love Demitrie for a French boy's name. For my kids I went with an Irish name, an English name and a French name for my third. It represent all of our family ancestry. 😊
When I first listened to your videos I thought your name was Estée ! Love your videos they are definitely going to help my husband and I choose names xx
Love baby name Monday even though we're not having anymore babies! Have you done a Christmas Names list before? If not would love to hear one as have a few friends due this Christmas! X
Go check on google translate for the pronouciation. I'm french canadian and the video have some mistake but I can't explain how to pronouce 😂 #toooomuchfrench
My favourite name and one that i have loved for so long now is French and it is Coralie. Its the french form of the name Coral but i just think Coralie sounds so beautiful and with a french accent it is honestly to die for! I also really like Marielle, u could even go for Maribel if u prefer the 'belle' ending. Coralie and Marielle would be beautiful names for sisters! Loved the vid SJ xxx
Coralie was my number one girls name after I met a French girl with the name- but then my sister in law named her daughter Cora Leigh so unfortunately it isn't an option for me to use anymore. So gorgeous though!
I love the French Language and Culture. The names are equally as beautiful! My high school doesn't offer a French language course, Spanish and German. I'm taking Spanish right now since it's also a romance language like French. My favorite is Solene from your list, so pretty. I might consider it for a daughter. I really like the names Marie and Christine, but I believe these are old fashioned. There was Marie Antoinette, and she was from the 1500s I believe. Maybe I'll come back with a list of more names. I have a French friend at my high school who is named Colette, and I also think that her name is really pretty. She moved to the States from France 2 years ago. My grandfather is from France. So, they're teaching me French, lol.
Loved this video and every single name on the list!! We also live Amelie, Lisette, and Lausanne for girls, and Luc, Louis, and Jacques for boys. We live in a heavily French influenced area of the US, so many of the names on this list are common for us. I’d love to see more country themed lists! Can’t wait!
Love this list SJ! One of my favourites you’ve done. We had Etienne on our list of names when we were choosing a name for Evander. I love Lilou too, loved it since I first watched fifth element! If you didn’t see my suggestion in the last video because I commented a bit late, it was for water themed names. Would love to hear a list on that. ❤️
The Desiraes ah etienne would have really suited you guys; but I actually love evander more! Lilou is lush isn’t it - I actually did water names so is there anything else you think would be good?! I can’t Believe I’ve done so many Name lists now 😂
SJ Strum yeah we love Evander and the meaning behind it. We actually chose our last name together and had it legally changed when we got married because we wanted to start our own family name and didn’t like our maiden names double barrelled. And we obviously picked a French name, so we thought Etienne Desirae would sound too French for two parents who aren’t at all French! You did!? I haven’t seen that one, I’ll have to look for it. I thought I’d watched all of your lists! It’s a highlight of my Monday 😊 I’ll have a think and let you know if I can come up with any other ideas. Maybe Spanish names would be a cool one to add onto the French list though.
The Desiraes its rare in the u.s. too. Not even sure where i heard it. I love rare nanes. He loves jack and only jack lol. Not pregnant now so i have time to sway him to the dark side hopefully :) thats why i love sj!
I love a sweet French name! Favourites of mine are Roux, Léa, Fabien, Éloïse, Pascal, Violet, Dax, Charlotte, Jacques, Margot, Amelie, Beau and Clarette. I'm always surprised how much we hear our eldest's name, Enzo, over there and also our 6 year old's middle name, Aksel (They spell it Axel) xxx
Lilou is ADORABLE for a little girl, and I loved the Bastien idea, it sounds so hipster and royal, like the name of a prince, I think that's because reminds me of Caspian and Casper. And Maeva is such a strong vintage name, with the perfect meaning for the occasion, right ? Now "Theodora" has to share the top place on my list.
I’ve found a new favorite boy name: Bastien! I am American so I would end up saying it as Bash-tin, but it is so much prettier the way y’all would say it. I also love the name Marielle (ooh I just remembered that my family of having the first daughter have some sort of Marie in the name so that would work!)
My request is for a list of 80s/90s names that would work today! Not proper retro granny names but ones that now kind of fall into that ‘dated’ category. Get me all nostalgic. Eg Gabrielle, LOVE that. I know a new baby David. Sarah. (No offence SJ! 🤣). That genre of name. Maybe trawl the charts from those decades if you know how to find them (I don’t, hence the request) Would make my day! Great vid as always SJ!
I love Solene and Leandre! Olivier sounds cool, but it also sounds slightly more feminine to me even though written out it doesn't. Hmm. I know a Marielle, and she's Norwegian, very beautiful, outdoorsy, and bohemian!!!
Behindthename is a great website for country popularity charts. They always link back to the government database so you know the info is accurate (ie,, National Statistics for England and Wales, and the Social Security Administration for US). Here is the link for the top 497 names in France in 2016 based on INSEE data: behindthename . com /top/lists/france/2016 The names in the video rank like this: Lilou #37 Bastien #112 Solène #350 Leandre #103 Marielle #N/A Benoit #N/A Maëva #202 Etienne #379 Estee #N/A Olivier #418
Super please do 20 common/classic girl names you like. I know you've mentioned Jessica, in a few lists in passing but its never been one you focused on. Would love to hear what you find out about it.
I love French names. Olivier and Etienne are already up there for me (the cute french guy in The Beach). I used to sit next to a girl called Aurelie (you have to get the french accent to give the pronunciation its best sound) which I always thought was beautiful. I love Genevieve (the french john-vie=eve rather than Jenna=Vive) and Anouk (a french version of Ann). I also much prefer the french pronunciation of Agnes - it sounds more like An-yes - the G is not hard and has more of a Y sound and I think that it so much prettier. My favourite french name though remains Fleur. So simple but so beautiful and a great way of calling your daughter Flower without it sounding more bohemian than maybe some people feel comfortable carrying off
Random but I just watched a "say yes to the dress" episode with a Genevieve and Benoit. I didn't know until that moment that john-vie-eve was the correct pronunciation but it sounds soo pretty! Makes sense though since I did take a bit of French in high school haha!
i love these unique names so much sj! i always look forward to every monday for your baby name videos! i have been making lists of my favorite baby names since i was 14! i have an idea for a video: native american baby names?
I love the French language and have always been interested in using a French name! Marielle and Etienne are on my list :) The problem for me is that many of them just don't sound the same without the French accent
I'm half French, my dad is called Olivier. And interestingly my British mum is called Isabella which is super popular now. In the 1950s when she was born it was quite uncommon and she used to get teased a lot!
I’m French (but I live in Denmark) and it sounds so sweet when you pronounce these names! It almost sound better with your accent! Haha! Interesting selection, some names like Olivier are for guys born in the 80’s but it’s coming back ;) As an addition to your list, my daughter is called Salomé, which is also a bit old but coming back in trend (and it means “peace” ;) )
What a beautiful list of names! 💜 In France/Québec, we're not prononcing the "e" to Leandre, so it's sound more like Léandr-. I love Estee, and also Esmée, Lysmée and Marielle (in the same kind, there is the name Muriel/Murielle that I find pretty)! It's really cool to rediscover french names in your video! Also, my name's Sandrine, and i don't know if it's a used name in UK? 😁
Can you do a video for the new 1000 list if it or when it comes out? I’m from America and I love seeing the difference in the 1000 names in the USA and UK. 😊
I liked all of these names but I'm not sure I would be brave enough to use them. If you need any more ideas for videos you could always do a biblical name list or place name list. Xx
I’m aware this name is not totally French, but I’ve pretty much decided on a girl name for when I have kids. I’ve decided on Madeline, pronounced Mad-Uh-Line. It goes with a lot of middle names and has tons of different nicknames too :)
Marielle 😍 I love Etienne as well, but don't think my OH would go for it... I do love a french name. I also loved your Scandinavian names as my greats were from Norway (although I think where they were from is now part of Sweden) xx
I love Soleil. I wanted to use that name for my daughter but I couldn’t convince my husband 😔 we settled on something else that I still love but I am keeping it in my pocket for the future.
How would you pronounce Emmeline? I love this name put prefer Emme-LINE and not Emme-LEEN. I think where I live in America most would say "LINE" but my husband is from Germany and they would most definitely pronounce it "LEEN".
How about doing Spanish and Italian baby names? I love these names but it was hard to find ones people can pronounce and spell but that are still unique and foreign sounding...
There’s so many great name video suggestions in the comments! I bet you’ve got a massive list now SJ! I’d love an animal inspired baby names video! 🦊🦁🍃 Please don’t include Bear, Wolf or Tiger though because they are becoming quite popular espesh with celebs atm. Another great video too!

Thanks for the lovely reply. Baby is responding well to treatment but we're looking at next week for possible going home as long as test results prove positive. X
Being almost fully french. You pronounced them well and you picked very beautiful names.
Ah thanks so much! I'm so happy to hear that; thanks for letting me know x
sorry to be off topic but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?

What did you end up naming him?
So I love the way Henry is pronounced in French and would love tips on how to spell it for a girl but keeping the same sound!
A.J. Henrie would be the spelling you're looking for :) (I'm French)
French names 🌸
Sylvie, Chloé, Fleur, Margaux, Louise, Léa, Cyan, Mathilde, Manon, Claudine... so pretty!
Can you do Spanish spunky names? Or classics
Like Lourdes, Ines, Clara, Carmen, Alma
Nature: Luna, Alba, Flor, Sol, Mar 🍬
Andie Fernández I love manon like manon des sources le film 1986
My maiden last name was Alba and now is Luna 😂
Solene sounds great
Pretty isn't it x

So Marielle is pronounced ( MARY-elle) not ( mar- EE- elle)
My favorite French female name is Elodie - I have a niece named this and we call her Ellie :)
thats my name haha
I've quite literally watched EVERY SINGLE baby name Monday... I'm not obsessed!
YAY!!!!! Enjoy the obsession - ha ha- I really try not to repeat names which is so hard!! Some pop up in a few lists :-)))
SJ Strum I haven't even been watching for more than a few weeks and I've already watched them all, I have such a long list of amazing baby names and most-if not all- of them are from baby name Mondays, do that you very much!
Maeva is so stunning, I love it! I’ve always thought Marielle was gorgeous and unusual & I think Solene would make a great middle name for many names.
That's so true; Maeva is gorgeous isn't it! x
I went to school with a boy named Etienne. Everyone called him ET for short, but I loved his full name. I always thought Etienne was the French form of Ethan. 🤷 You learn something new everyday!!🤓
Becky Boncheveaux ah ET is a super cool nickname 😂😂 maybe he hated it at the time!!! Xxx
SJ Strum maybe! It suited him though. He was a pretty cool guy
Ohhh I would hate this nickname 😂
Love Bastien and Solene! The French inspired names I love are Elodie, Anais and Darcy for a girl and Noel, Remi and Dax❤️
I love the name Roelle, it’s from Normandy and comes from French ruelle which means Lane or alley
Oooooh that's so pretty; I love R names at the moment and haven't heard that one before x
That’s not used in France !

Such a beautiful name - Coralie is to diefor xx
I LOVE Evander, but my s.o. doesn't like it at all!:( It sounds so handsome and strong!
dmallow22 thank you! It’s a very rare one here in the uk. Maybe it’s just a bit too unusual for your OH. My wife and I like the more unusual choices 😊
Roux is not a name oh god please don't call your baby like this
Roux, dax and beau are not really names here
my name is amelie :)
Quite like one of your favourites, my name is Fabienne, pronounced f-ah-b-ee-eh-n
@@amelie9539 this is what we want to call our child if it is a girl. Beautiful name x
Love Lilou ❤️ I have a Sebastian and he is Baz or Bastian. I actually wish now we’d gone with the French spelling.
Letícia Ribeiro ah totally agree about caspian - maybe that’s why I love it as I love that name! Theodora is stunning xx
My daughter is Emmeline which is French based too! Loved this video!
3:23 solene I love that name
Thanks for this! My name is Camille and I think my kiddos will end up with French names as well. These are lovely ideas.
Ah I love the name Camille; very French! So lovely to have all French names x
Have you done an Italian baby name video? If not can you make one? I’ll love to see one. Thanks!
Elle Sancz not yet! I’ll have to have a go xx
I have no idea how I got here but I just wanted to say that your the cutest, get such warm vibes from this video 🤩
I've loved Solene for years since I saw a French swimmer in the Olympics with that name. Soooo beautiful!
I know a little girl who’s name is ‘Leciel’ which translates to ‘the sky’
She always gets compliments on it rightfully so because it’s so pretty!
Only thing is...it's not a French name. It's two French words cobbled together "le ciel", which means "the sky" (you are correct).
I love Solene and Leandre! Olivier sounds cool, but it also sounds slightly more feminine to me even though written out it doesn't. Hmm. I know a Marielle, and she's Norwegian, very beautiful, outdoorsy, and bohemian!!!
Hello :) Love your list ! I am a French baby names list youtuber, and all of this names are accurate (and lovely) ! xx
SJ- Another solid collection. Maeva...beautiful! Estee is new to us- adore! We look forward to your videos~ thank you for the inspiration!
Behindthename is a great website for country popularity charts. They always link back to the government database so you know the info is accurate (ie,, National Statistics for England and Wales, and the Social Security Administration for US). Here is the link for the top 497 names in France in 2016 based on INSEE data: behindthename . com /top/lists/france/2016
The names in the video rank like this:
Lilou #37
Bastien #112
Solène #350
Leandre #103
Marielle #N/A
Benoit #N/A
Maëva #202
Etienne #379
Estee #N/A
Olivier #418
My friend named her baby Esme which is French. So simple and beautiful!
So simple but so beautiful and a great way of calling your daughter Flower without it sounding more bohemian than maybe some people feel comfortable carrying off
Wow all these are perfect names to me as well! I love An-yes for Agnes; and Fleur is stunning. I have a great friend called Genevieve!! x
Random but I just watched a "say yes to the dress" episode with a Genevieve and Benoit. I didn't know until that moment that john-vie-eve was the correct pronunciation but it sounds soo pretty! Makes sense though since I did take a bit of French in high school haha!
I love Etienne, reminds me of the film the Beach! x
I love French names. We used Odette for my daughter.
i love these unique names so much sj! i always look forward to every monday for your baby name videos! i have been making lists of my favorite baby names since i was 14! i have an idea for a video: native american baby names?
I love the French language and have always been interested in using a French name! Marielle and Etienne are on my list :) The problem for me is that many of them just don't sound the same without the French accent
I'm half French, my dad is called Olivier. And interestingly my British mum is called Isabella which is super popular now. In the 1950s when she was born it was quite uncommon and she used to get teased a lot!
I would love to see astronomy or ocean related names!
My daughter is Chantal I love this name suits her and is classy feminine and not used widely 💕💕💕
You should do an updated French names list. I love the name Aurélie, meaning golden/the golden one
Great video. Do you have any suggestions for italian girl names that start with J or T? Or any unique more unranked names that begin with that?
I just stuck Maeva on my list, i think my partner will love it. Marielle is beautiful as well.
Jenna Young ah yay!! It’s absolutely stunning! 😍
i actually thought your name was estee for the longest time!
Well ! I had to comment on THAT ! What a great selection ! I almost wish you had published that before my kids were born 😂 great work SJ !
Ha ha - yes - maybe some well names pot plants ;-)) x
Love it! And you look amazing, this look suits you so much! Can I ask where your head scarf is from please? 💗
Bibliophilia Lysmee? Sounds cute
I've never heard Sandrine in the UK.
Xx
Ah those are great ideas thank you x
I would love to see a list of beauty/fashion names. Ex: Estee, Chanel.
I love every single one of these French girls names.
How would you pronounce Emmeline? I love this name put prefer Emme-LINE and not Emme-LEEN. I think where I live in America most would say "LINE" but my husband is from Germany and they would most definitely pronounce it "LEEN".
I'm French and I love ur prononciation it's very so Frenchy love from Paris beauty, New follow ❤️
lol... I mean she tried but... come on. apart from Solene and Etienne this was as british as it gets in terms of prononciation...
I know at least 1 person with each of the names! So interesting to see other people's take on them and i was having a chuckle imagining my friends.
Oh wow these are so freaking adorable!!! Thank you 🥰
I really like Aurelie, Amelie and Fabienne fir girls and I love Maël, Elodie and Marcel for boys! Beautiful video SJ ❤️
My last name is Benoit. My father’s family are Cajun French but we have so many relatives since our ancestors are French.
We have gone with a french theme for our little girls. We have Fleur and Esmée.
How about doing Spanish and Italian baby names? I love these names but it was hard to find ones people can pronounce and spell but that are still unique and foreign sounding...
I have an Amélie. Just love how it's sounds. Getting much popular now but still get lots of people calling her Emily. X
Oh really! I LOVE the name Amelie; so pretty and special xx
Noooo I made it 28 years before it got popular in Britain lol xx
my name is amelie :)
I love the french name Cozette for a girl. Great names, thanks.
Loved this video and my daughters called Estée!
I loved a lot of these! We just found out that we're having a boy. We decided on Maxfield (kind of unique form of Max) and the middle name Gregory.
I'm a new viewer, and a fellow baby name enthusiast, I love baby name Monday, I do have a question, is your name SJ or is it a nickname? Just curious
My name is Sarah-Jayne but most people call me SJ xx
What a nice name
You look absolutely stunning !! Love these videos
Can you do a traditional but fashionable boy names video plz or italian boy names im thinking down those two routes
Love lilou! Please do an Irish baby names vid xxx
BeautyBear great idea xx
There’s so many great name video suggestions in the comments! I bet you’ve got a massive list now SJ! I’d love an animal inspired baby names video! 🦊🦁🍃 Please don’t include Bear, Wolf or Tiger though because they are becoming quite popular espesh with celebs atm. Another great video too!
Benoit is a very very popular last name in the USA in Mississippi we are very close to New Orleans so I think that’s where it may have origy
Benoit - the first syllable is pronounced like the vowel sound in “wood.”
I was trying to think where I knew the name Bastien from and it just came to me - the little boy in Never Ending Story
Ah really!! I've not seen that for years xx
