With no gearbox it's just a new motor as so many already exist.

DJI never holdback every time they strikes
Dji and the MGM motors are bombshells surely, that 800 battery and its high density is truly remarkable. However. ZF. ZF is a Pandora that every motor manufacturer may wish was never let of the box. That oil bathed clutched motor, I have a feeling that's only merely a sample of what they're really working on. If you knew, first hand, what ZF is capable of in the automotive industry. Then you know what's coming.
When ZF decides to put all of its expertise in automotive gearboxes into developing a motor and gearbox unit for e-bikes, they will surely give Pinion a run for their money.
Cant wait for Gen 2, so the bike can fly me up! no need for lifts anymore

I feel like the emtb industry is about to move into a new era of really clever small yet powerful motors - and can you please ask if consumers can repair their own motors yet?
You can be 100% sure that these motors won’t be user repairable and they shouldn’t. But companies should offer refurbished motors at a fair price that would be OK.
@@tamasvarga67 explain why they shouldn't be user repairable? although I do agree that refurbished motors should be discounted at a fair price... its just... crazy the prices they are charging...
Here in Maine, we have the right to repair. It could be interesting to push this.
@@ericmin7645 Are the motors in a Tesla (or any EV) user repairable or should they be? Will you buy the equipment (special tools, diagnostic software etc.) to do the repair or you expect the fist sized 90Nm motor to be repairable with a screwdriver and an Allen key?

A bit disappointed ZF didn't release an MGU, especially considering they make the legendary 8 speed auto for cars. Must be plans for one surely.
Some really cool new motors and tech. The light weight, high power density batteries are especially cool. Now we need regen braking.
Really looking forward to this being a happy owner of several DJI mini drones

The full DJI electronic ecosystem just makes sense.
I have a DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine, a DJI mic, I also have a DJI Power 1000, I'm on this path buying everything made by DJI
More competitors might convince Shimano and Bosch to quit half assing everything.
Ze Germans like to monitor your motor for dongles, and will lock you out of your own bike if they detect any foul play.
The MGM and ZF motors are very interesting, cant decide which i like more zero friction or clutched but then i got a hard on looking at a parted out pinion MGU……Pinion WINS
120 top NM in an ebike motor - wow - as a fan of the DJI drones interesting to see how thier ebike perfoms on the trails, great specs and looks amazing!
If the motor is anything like their drones they're onto a winner 🎉
Dont buy a motor because it boasts high torque figures. No doubt there will be some dyno data that confirms the peak but it lasts for fractions of a second. NO ebike motor can actually lay down these figures, for comparison my GSXR 750 K8 only has 85Nm but its driven by an 110Kw (corrected) motor which is why it can pick the front wheel up at 80mph even though the total weight is over 1/4 of a ton ebikes have 0.25Kw continuous but only if you optimise the hell out of your riding

ZF and DJI are improvement from current technology. Pinion MGU is a step change for bike industry.

I’m seriously considering an EMTB because where I live there’s is so much climbing involved at steep grades to get to enjoy the downhill. Hope this tech keeps evolving. Allows you to travel more distance in the same time

Depends entirely on price. I dont need more power. I need cheaper ebikes.
It probably wont be cheap. But if its priced competitively it will already help to drive down prices of the competition, because I dont think very many EMTB can compete with those feature sets
It’s easier to build a couple of top bikes than mass produce decent bikes. See what Tesla has been through. But considering the ever increasing cost of living it’s a good point.

That's a beautiful bike! For sure what the industy needs, a lightweight eMTB with tons of power and a large capacity battery.
Hope the price for a complete bike is somewhat reasonable, and not the 10,000 dollar pricetag manufacturers are trying to get us accustomed to nowadays...

ZF need to start working on a motor-gearbox combo like Pinion's. Their transmissions are legendary in the auto industry, so they surely have the know-how for such a project. The only other such system that I can think of is Valeo's Effigear, and that only has 6 speeds.
All the old tech is gonna be on sale. Love that! I'll grab a Levo SL at 50% off and be on my way to the trail.

Pausing my plans for a TQ based bike!
The DJI looks impressive but it still looks large and screams eMTB. I want more stealth so actually the smaller MGM and ZF motors are more interesting. I was thinking of getting a Fazua Ride 60 bike but now thinking I may do better to wait another season or two on my Rise before getting a newer eMTB.
On the pinion system, how is its efficiency / range compared to standard drivetrains?

I just bought a Spectral ON CF 8 I thought I loved it... am I always going to be behind the 8 ball with the rapid Tech advances. This is just like getting a computer in the 90's, only to have it outdated in 2 months..... do we think this will ever level off?

Same power as my Rocky, but 10 lbs lighter. If this thing comes to market it will be a game changer.
Great video, thanks. Does anyone make a motor that has true zero drag once 15.5mph is exceeded? My EP8-equipped MTB is awful, my Ride60 gravel bike is close to zero? I think this would be the biggest advance in e-bike motor usability
In regards to DJI, I really want to try one out. Too bad they did not release the motor with a few other companies. I really enjoy the whole ecosystem compared to the industry. I believe this innovation foreshadows the release of some new products from the other motor manufacturers. If DJI makes the decision to Sell their products globally, this surge in interest within SL bikes will be rewarding for them. If they can keep production up and support their electronics system, this will be a hot item.
What is the IPX rating for the DJI? I see many Ebike motor companies going under as well as some ebike companies.
We don't have an IPX rating yet but we'll keep our eyes peeled!

This is really nice suprise, nice specs. I tend more to 38 and bigger shock, but.... it will come :) But the tech is top noch - wight to spec ratio is awesome.
It looks very stealthy, blurring the lines even further between MTB and eMTB!

ZF is known for making good transmissions so hopefully all the gears and internals are top notch.
So will we see this in other brands Mondraker Trek etc
42lb full powered (most power out there in a motor), is incredible. Between this and the ZF motor, wow, some pretty wild stuff going on in the ebike industry.
You need to introduce DJI to Pinion and we have the future of E Bikes on their way. If they can do what they have to the drone industry in terms of size and power of drone motors and batteries then we have a free thinking company out of left field who can truly be a game changer. Just like Pinion. Not the the same old bike transmission companies playing around with cassettes and materials trying to save weight and producing weak and expensive parts not fit for purpose. Bring it on.

Given the questions about servicing and reliability which often pop up around ebike motors and components (particularly in climates like the UK), it will be the companies who offer support who will succeed in the long run - so regardless of features, how can the new entrants to the market (like DJI) provide the after-market support required to built a consumer base with the bike industry already under so much strain?
If their drone servicing and after-care support with DJI Care is anything to go by, it'll be top tier.

The DJI bike looks excellent. I wonder whether DJI will incorporate some basic 'follow me' drone controls into the bike software.
The flimsy 12 speed drivetrain should be pretty snappy with 120 Nm plus rider input going through it. Expect to spend a lot of money on chains and cassettes - or move to 9 speed.
It's getting kinda silly with all the different motors now. At the very least standardize the form of these so that it's to some extent interchangeable.
Nothing in the tech world is interchangeable.

I live in the USA and we suck for varieties of ebike availability. All these cool new bikes you are showing are not available here. Why not and when?
Land managers have been slow to approve class 1 bikes on trails is holding e-bikes in the USA but keeps improving every year.
Hi guys, this is the most technical Steve has ever been motor wise for sure. The DJI Amflow is driving a derailleur having its 100th anniversary so you still have to put up with a tail end chain breaker and clagg hunter. It is surely time to change to a Shimmy 11 speed or similar, don't go for a belt option on a EMTB it collects mud faster than a hippo!

As I recall the TQ motor on the Hai Bike was a total disaster. Was that about 5 years or so ago? By now the bugs and tech should be worked out and look forward to seeing how this new take on the TQ goes.
So you'd bet on a motor that is already a proven failure? Brave.

The Amflow bike looks great, doesn't look like an EMTB. The DJI motor etc seems like it'll be a good setup.
I'll be impressed by DJI if the motor turns out to be reliable.
Off course why they woulnt, they build drones and motor should be 100% reliable. Their smart battery noone cant compite with them. Shimano doest not has storage mode
Hold on ! apparently the 120Nm/ 1000watts is only available IN the top
assist level for thirty seconds .
Compare that with the Sachs/BMZ motor where it's 112 Nm is available in tour as well as the highest assist indefinitely without over heating .
Gosh... I bought a Fuel ExE yesterday after agonising over Fuel ExE or Levo. I have to start saving g again after seeing this DJi motor and bike. This is the one bike we all want. Gosh
Just had a look for pricing, amflow carbon starts at €7k so not going to be cheap lol.
Do they cost considerably more than my car? Probably. Do a video on how ludicrous over-priced emtbs are - go on, go on, go on!

They good thing it can integrate sram t type transmision to the display with shimano it cant be done, i own a yeti160e and ep801 is hard to get to keep up now days ebikes, ep8 is out of any update so can only see batt range with that lame 6 bars

fantastic tech and nice to see dji giving it a go, I'm guessing they are needing to branch out now that their drones are going to be banned lol..
sounding like a brocken record I need to say that we need prices to come down on these things, when they cost as much as a car there is something not right,
but I also know that new inovative tech comes at a price,
still, we have had ebikes now for enough years for them to be considered not really a new thing anymore right?

Current Bosch and Shimano motor are plenty powerful with the battery capacity that we currently have. Any more than this will deplete the battery too quickly…
Sure it’s nice to have a 30sec boost mode , but i would rather not have a derailler /chain and the maintenance that comes with it

They going to leave shimano behind, better software better supply on demant & better battery. Shimano cant even sell ep801 because they are only dealer sales and hard to get on amazon
