    Our Story:
We are five years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney
Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled
with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our
pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden
organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our

That is great that your parents are moving near you all. A homestead is meant to be enjoyed with family! That is going to be a great home! I love the pantry and shelving! That will be super handy. So, the pole barn is for the animals, right? I would love having a living room view of the animals!

    • @PineyGroveHomestead

The plan was to have them moved by last Christmas...it's looking more like this fall. That gable end of the barn will be closed with a workshop on this end. The animals will be on the other side under lock and key per Mrs. Piney Grove!! 🤣Take care Lucas. Brad&Deb

I love the storage! The cookie cutter house just don’t have enough!
Looks awesome. The only part that’s strange to me it the water heater in the closet otherwise I love the design

The parents wanted the hot water closer to the shower for efficiency. And more room in their mud room. So it's definitely not a traditional location. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

      @@PineyGroveHomestead ahhh that’s a good idea.
Ours is in the garage they way the builder did it. We recently changed it for a tankless water heater. That might be something you should look into for your house. It only heats the water you use and saves space too . great job on this. It’s a great house!

I started sneezing just watching those guys mud the sheetrock. I developed allergies to it after a while. I wish I could look out my living room window and see my shop! :) One thing that we have that we absolutely love is a wrap-around porch and patio. We get just enough direct sunlight in the windows to keep it cheery, but in the summer our electric bills aren't too bad. Nice work so far on the house, Brad & Deb!

David, we're going back and forth on what style house we want to build....I was originally stuck on a Cape Cod but not sure anymore. The Mega-Shed has a North facing porch and my idea is that I will be there all the time...not in the house much. And Deb will be in the barn playing with her animals. So many decisions to make!! Take care. Brad&Deb

Around how much we are talking to buy a land like that, you mention something on one of your videos that make me think , everybody that know me said that i wont be able to retire because im a very active person and retire will kill me. A place like that is the perfect solution always something to do . Thanks for your advice.

Land is $3K to $10K an acre around here...just depends on where it's at, how much is swampy, and how big the parcel. Smaller parcels go for more. We've done a few videos on land buying. Here are two: ua-cam.com/video/GbPKOd0DZXQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/LauBnhamoMQ/v-deo.html

Actually I find that I am so busy in retirement I wonder how I ever had time for a job. My 10 acres keep me busy all the time. There is always something to do, trim trees, remove Yopon from around said trees, cut the pasture, cut firewood, maintenance of equipment, and all the rest.

My Husband and I just found you guys and we are so inspired by all of this. I'm currently 29 and my husband is 35 we built a second home attached to my parents home and it was one of the best decision we have made, they are so involved as grandparents, along with so much more benefits. At the moment we are tapped out on what we can build, we are in a community with houses stacks to each other so we are on research mode for 10 acres or 20 like you guys, we want to do exactly how you guys have it, Set up something how we have it now but on land with my parents and provide them with that life of freedom to do anything they want.
Do you guys have any recommendation on where to look for land or where you guys found yours, a good price range for 10-20 acres? I just started watching your videos not sure if you guys mention it in a video. Thanks in advance.

We cover a lot of that in our very first video: ua-cam.com/video/GbPKOd0DZXQ/v-deo.html
Prices have changed a bit since 2018 when we bought, but smaller acreage in North Florida is $3000-10000 per acre.....just depends. Dirt road frontage, swampy, utilities, structures, fencing, proximity to town, etc. We watched Zillow everyday for year....looked at a lot of places. The best value is probably a fixer-upper with acreage, but we wanted a clean slate. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

I hope you put in the taller toilets (16-18 inches) and not the standard 14" size. We built in 2007 and put in taller toilets and they are awesome. Put in as much insulation in the attic as you can afford. Electricity isn`t getting any cheaper and it`ll pay for itself plus the comfort of being cooler in those hot and humid summers. Your parents are going to love it. Looking great.
