incredible thorough video .. having you deep dive into more key figures of F1 would make a great new series for this channel :3
Thanks! Good idea😁
Why stop at F1? Key Figures from the worlds of Sports cars, Rally (+ Rally Raid) cars, Touring cars and Indycar would also be warmly welcomed. One at a time of course!
Please do Ross Brawn next
@@User-dd2xv was about to say this! Please do!
This was actually a very informative video, explaing even the personal side of newey's work
Like every video you take complex topic and simplifies them so anyone can understand. Before I thought he would retire, but after learning his history Ferrari or Aston makes the most sense. Great job understanding a human in a human level and not sensational level. (The race cough cough)
Imagine an argument between Lauda and Steiner. If Drive to Survive existed back then the Jaguar F1 team would have been the most popular on the show.
Also at 3:54 there are patches on Horner's shirt inspired by similar patches worn by James Hunt from back during his racing career which shows how much the Red Bull team at the time was like the Hesketh team of the 70s or the Jordan team of the 90s (Jordan in the 2000s was slowly becoming a shadow of it's former self) which I miss (they are still the "fun" team but back then they were a lot more fun).
Very good review of Newey’s career and some aspects of his decision making - curious how you think the RB17 project effects his potential decision making (if at all) - especially given the project as sold as more than a car and very much a customer experience with the team. Finally, i highly recommend “How to Build a Car” to anyone interested in F1. Newey clearly has interests outside F1 and its also very clear he places a strong emphasis on unambiguous organization structure, individual accountability, freedom and inclusion in all relevant decision making (including driver selection)
Adirian newey is proof that hard work and dedication for what you believe in always pays off a true inspiration
Newey is a hero for designers, and by all accounts a good man. I'm a Brit who would love to see him go an enjoy Italy for a while, and build a fast Red car...
From this we can conclude that there are 3 possibilities:
1. Aston Martin: A Team with the latest developed factory and facilities and a lot of cash to experiment stuff, Energy and Willingness to become Title contenders, A young Rookie Driver with Championship winning skill and mindset, Deal with Honda as Engine Manufacturer, And His one of the good disciples Dan Fallows from Red Bull is also there.
2. Ferrari: A team he had a dream to work with, Vasseur's exclusive offers for him in car development and contract, An Experienced Champion Racing Driver is also moving there, But could hinder if his personal relationships are not ok
3. Take Retirement and Enjoy Life and keep up with his relationships with his family
would he really retire outright? probably just retire from f1 and go work on cars outside the series
Who is the Aston Rookie driver?
@@virtual_GaRy Alonso
@@defnotatrollHe doesn't seem to want to retire from designing outright but it's likely he'll retire from F1. I think at this point he is seriously considering designing a Le Mans Hypercar or he found designing the RB17 road car to be so enjoyable that he's considering switching over to road car design to see what else he can come up with.
EVs in particular are something he could be interested in (even though he clearly loves the sound of engines) as the lack of engine could allow for interesting designs like what Lotus did with the Evija.
Also imagine if somebody approached him with the intention of building the fastest possible car without the constraints of a human being driving it as it would be driven by AI. It would be a great way to end his design career.
A long as lance is at aston martin, newey is never going to take them seriously. Alonso is going to retire sooner or later and they have no other upcoming talent. Max, charles, george and lando are all locked with their teams. Aint no one gonna build a championship capable car around lance.
Read "How To Build A Car" and you will understand this legend.
Top read 👍
I do wonder if Ferrari would be willing to allow Newey to set up a design office in the UK like they did with John Barnard back in the day, especially given how much easier long-distance collaboration is these days compared to 35 years ago
Moving is not an issue anymore, it used to be because of his kids. They're grown up now.
if it's true newey still works with pen and paper, long-distance working might not be as easy.. sure he will get assistants porting his work over to CAD or whatever, im not saying he will be using pigeons to send his paper drafts to italy, but still it seems very dubious on how effective such a setup would be. Feedback and ability to make changes slows down a lot.
@@fredd3.14no, all you have to do is scan the drawings and send it over with encryption of course
All I can say bro is God puts us in certain situations that's why we thank him for everything no matter what good or bad has happened to us. The should have would have could have talk is not the mind of an engineer
There was a contrast during his stay at Williams, either Frank or Patrick sacked a driver he still wanted to keep in the team.
Also, someone talked about 'unfinished business' during his time at LeytonHouse, he wants decisional roles in the team he works in.
Aston might be a problem thanks to Lance, while Ferrari is a problem in and on itself.
But nonother potions seem to be here at the moment.
I would say it all comes down to Vasseur and how he can keep Newey happy, just like Horner did for so many years
Newey's designed between 1991 and 1997 are some of my favorite open wheel cars ever. The '95 Williams FW17 and '97 FW19 are the coolest looking cars of the early raised nose period.
This type of vedio is exactly what I wanted.
Edit : Please make more vedios like this.
Newey and Christian Horner are on the same side, they both stopped Porsche from buying the team which was a deal done by the Austrian side of Red Bull, and both Horner and Newey tried to become shareholders of the team, but failed to do so, now that the Austrian shareholders are trying to get rid of Horner, what can Newey do as an employee, still there is no real basis to say he is leaving, as of now everyting is based on speculation.
Always knew I hated that Ron Dennis era McLaren for a good reason. That team just had "evil empire" vibes
Really love the renaissance they've had since 2018/19, with Zak Brown, Andreas Seidel, Lando, Carlos, and everyone else.
Tchuss Martin, great stuff as usual. This is the only media since the news leaked who has nailed why Mr. Newey may or may not want to go to Ferrari. Besides Ferrari... Aston Martin might've been appealing because of: geography, Honda mutual respect, road car business, opportunity to lead and grow. But could Andretti-Cadillac be a dark horse; they just set up a facility in UK and Caddy has LM projects and road cars. Besides LM and road cars, another way around an F1 gardening-leave period might be working for the engine supplier (Caddy, Honda, etc) instead of the chassis.
It’s probably his last shot at Ferrari so might as well give it a shot 🤷🏽♂️
Great video!! I was surprised. Thought it would be mostly click bait, which is the usual case with these kinds of videos (in general, not from you). Good job! :)
OMG the video even had the details from his book.
Great video, I love your style :)
Wow
This was a very thorough review of Newey's situation.
I feel like I met a person and get to know him a little.
Very informative video 👍
Please make a separate video about the Mclaren times. The environment and famous matrix structure. Would be nice if you can add more of your expeience and extras like walking across the green
Imagine if Adrian would see this video 😄
Wahnsinn, danke für das Video ❤
thank you
He's the best aerodynamicist in F1 which makes him a king maker.
I would like Newey design Aston Martin!
I think that's a really interesting episode.
Would be cool to know more about the careers and motivation of the key people across the sport.
And what people do after... What is Ross Brawn up to now? Where do drivers wind up after F1?
I'm glad i don't work at Mclaren. If i can't even drink q glass of water at my desk, the company clearly isn't for me.
tbf this was under Ron Dennys
who thought these rules out? you have to stay hydrated to function
@@Keckegenkai and you have to stay happy to be motivated
You are wonderfull !!!
Interesting video!
For Newey, the chance to influence future roadcar design at the world's most famous marque must be a huge factor. He's talked before about how car design has been heading in the wrong direction with weight and aero, Ferrari offers the best way forward for him. McLaren second, AM third. I think he wants to build an iconic road car like Gordon Murray's McLaren F1, the Valkyrie might not count?
You know, even The Great Airbender is a family-oriented man.
F1 is largely centered around England, so that isn't a restrictive factor.
Living in England is an enabler if you work in F1 !
I would fully understand if he retired. He would be finishing on a high having built the most dominant F1 car. He also has a yacht being built.
Thank you very much for speaking with a natural voice.
I hate this AI-generated scrap.
LETS GOO
It would be cool if you make a video about Andy Cowell would love to hear from your perspective
The corridor looks large enough to drive a car to the elevators, no? Zac has allowed colour inside, yes. Stewart Ford is coming full circle.
Adrian to Aston, Andretti or Williams is my wish.
Thank you kindly for the highest level of learning available. You share it with humility.
Ferrari’s dominance has been predicted
The detail about McLaren's headquarters architecture and office rules was pretty startling. Ron Dennis achievement is incredible but to not flex to allow a key person to flourish and stay is a big failure.
I felt that when your equal partner in crime becomes your boss
I have this silly idea that the present owner of Willams should offer him 50% of their shares for free with the clause that he should work there for free for 5 years. An arrangement like this would draw sponsorship money big time. And Newey could get full technical control over a team he only left in the first place because Frank Willams and Patrick Head didn’t want to allow him to get to much influence. After 5 years he could become Technical Director Emeritus and become an English version of Enzo Ferrari. 😃 Greetings from Denmark
Even fans of Mercedes and Red Bull would love to see a Newey Ferrari. 🔴
Late to the party but didnt adrian also expressed some annoyance with the next set of regulations? Doesnt help that tyre dimensions have yet to be confirmed.
Probably a good thing that hes leaving the team that he built together with horner... Cos sooner or later redbull will have to soldier on without his guide...
While many speculate he might be going to ferrari im of the opinion that he should just stay at redbull.
Which wildcat F1 team just opened a new F1 design office at Silverstone? Andretti! 😹
Newey to Aston?
If Hamilton+newey and Ferrari still manage to not win i genuinely fear they will never
Depending on how well other teams do, I could envisage it taking 1 season for everyone to get used to working with each other, 1 season to develop a winning car and in the third or fourth season together win a championship.
If ferrari win a championship, it aint gonna be hamilton i can tell you that much. But he can definitely use his experience to help in car development.
They won't, it's Ferrari lol
@@lichh64 and guess which team has the most championships ?
@@db-mp2of That literally doesn't change anything lol. That's like saying grandpa is best at a sport because he won the most in his old days.
Gordon Murray and/or Collin Chapman next please🙌🏽🙏🏽
I never knew Ferrari approached him back in the '90s, oof man what could have been...
Rory Byrne is equally good choice for them tbh
Adrian Newey going to Ferrari to beat Adrian Newey is one hell of a prospect
He is going to Sauber/Audi
Retirement....he needs to spend his time with his family before he dies ☝️
He may go to Aston Martin you don't know it may happen
Based on this video, Mercedes looks like the logical option because they have a flexible working culture that's compatible with Newey's values (unlike Ferrari who are control freaks; Aston Martin are untested), Mercedes is struggling in terms of aero and overall performance (he would not inherit any success as Mercedes are in their down years now), and their engine project is rumored to be ahead of everyone else's (engine issues are a key consideration for him). As an added bonus, he gets access to the Mercedes brand where he could potentially design road cars as well.
I think Aston Martin is the “best fit” for him.
Not sure how he would be building greatness into a Ferrari Le Mans car that has already won the race.
Otherwise interesting video.
Newey+Hamilton+Ferrari=awesome
what about his other kid, Max? he's not independent yet (8titles)
Never gonna be independent that kid.
@@utuberme1 he's been independent since he started racing on 4 wheels, he's not lewis
I hate that McLaren building. It's very bland, ugly, and soulless to me. It's almost like someone looked at a giant photo album of average bland small/medium business office buildings and decided to construct a building that was the epitome of the worst parts about different office buildings across the world. Where your average office might be lucky to have a little character or soul somewhere, this McLaren building makes sure it does not exist.
Is there a vid explaining it?
Just imagine. Lewis gets World Champion in Neweys Ferrari in 2026. The marketing value will be through the roof!
This guy done 2 marriages and still have a girlfriend and here is me women dosent even talk to me
He's just a regular guy who happens to be a genius🤔
