I have known many Green Berets in my life. Jeff was so proud to represent them that he adopted that attitude. I could see that just by listening to his interviews, starting in 1970. But, put that aside for a minute. Jeff married Colette at 19, because she was pregnant. By the time he was 26, he had 2 young daughters and another baby coming soon. And, in 1970, birth control pills had been in the market since 1968. I believe that it was just too much for him and he cracked. And, those pills he was popping did not help. But, I believe that he started hating Colette when she became pregnant for the third time when birth control pills were available.

To understand Jeff MacDonald's denial, you have to understand the Green Berets. They are the best of the best in the army. They are the toughest, the strongest, the smartest, and they bow to no one. They are aggressive, determined, and they NEVER admit wrongdoing. Everything they do is justified because they are always right. Even more than 50 years later, MacDonald still has that Green Beret attitude. He will never confess. To him, dying in prison is like dying in active duty. He has no shame.

You lost me in the first few minutes because HE WAS NOT IN THE AIR FORCE HE WAS IN THE GREEN BERETS, THE ARMY.

Dr. MacDonald was a Green Beret officer in the Army, not the Air Force, which doesn't have a special force. Otherwise, great podcast episode. The Fatal Vision murder case is my favorite true crime case, just as Fatal Vision is my all time favorite true crime classic bestseller. Hopefully you can do one on Dr. Sam Sheppard, who was also convicted of killing his pregnant wife. Both Marilyn Sheppard and Collette Stevenson were Skidmore dropouts. A lot of similarities between these two cases, except that MacDonald was a high-flying genius compared to the mediocre Sheppard, who also cheated on his wife. Doctors are always tired, overworked and frequently snap. But Sheppard was not a family annihilator. MacDonald was the precursor to Scott Peterson, Chris Coleman, and Chris Watts. None of them wanted to be family men.

      Wasn't Shepherd exonerated, somewhat recently?

Sheppard didn’t kill his wife and was exonerated. The Fugitive TV show and movie glossed over that case.
