- "Unrequited love was never easy, but at least Penelope Featherington was used to it."
Love it, hate it or love to hate it, Bridgerton is the most talked about costume historical romance drama bodice ripper series of early 2021. And it is no secret - I thoroughly enjoyed Bridgerton and it was indeed a guilty pleasure!
Penelope Featherington was my favourite character and I enjoyed every moment of her screentime. I simply can not wait for season 2 of Bridgerton!
It was soon after I made my last video about Penelope and her costumes (Check it out here: • We need to talk about ... ) that I decided I needed to make a cosplay inspired by her.
Please enjoy this vlog as I construct my Penelope Featherington cosplay using only stash fabrics.

"Gloriously hideous" is my favorite kind of aesthetic! It came out great!!
Hahaha I couldn't agree most. I really want to make all the gloriously hideous outfits. They speak to my very soul.
"I Would Regret This Later": A Costuber Story
100% yes.
You all probably dont care at all but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly forgot the password. I would love any help you can offer me!
@Bowen Tommy instablaster ;)
My favorite quote: “I haven’t tested this. Please don’t test this.”
🤣🤣🤣
It was fun watching you be free with your design process and have so much fun in the process! (Well, there’s that bit with the sewing machines... but you enjoyed the project itself!) There’s a time and place for historical accuracy and a Brigerton dress isn’t it! Let the historically adequate with storytelling allowances vibes flow!
Hahaha thank you- I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I really do enjoy the historical/ fantasy esk side of cosplay. It is good fun and open to interpretation
"I will immediately regret my life choices and unpick" is big mood lol
Hahaha big mood
Best stash-busting project yet!
Nawww thanks hun!
Your rendition of this outfit is simply ✨chefs kiss✨
And your ability to crank it out SO quickly despite a tid bit of procrastination. Awesome!
Thank you so much 😊 I am glad you like it. I was happy that my calulations were correct and I needed only the extra two inches at the shoulder on the front to get the right fit.
I hope Nicola Coughlan sees this and knows we all love her.
That is my hope too ^_^
You are a DELITE! I haven't even finished watching yet, but I love your enthusiasm and your willingness to put mistakes out there so we can learn from them. Thanks for this video.
Thank you so much!
I loved pen, she is my fav of the series (besides the eye candy duke, Benedict, Colin even if a tad young, and in those beautiful costumes. omg!)
She is lovely!
I don't watch the Bridgertons, but I am enjoying watching all you costubers sew dresses inspired by the show. Thank you for an enjoyable video!
Thank you so much for watching! I’m glad that you enjoyed it!
I love how creative you have been with stash materials, the dress is wonderful !
I am all about using the stash. It may not be perfect, but it will be close enough :)
I must say, I am SO jealous of your fabric collection, I'm only just starting with sewing (havent done any clothes, just a few quilts because I need to start simple) so I only really have the fabric my family got me for christmas.
Oh just you wait :) Your collection will grow and grow and grow :)
Don't be jealous, building up your fabric collection is half of the fun :)
Plus, collection fabric and using fabric are two separate hobbies :)
UMM WHAT - this is INCREDIBLE !! You look just like her! And it's so detailed 👏👏 puts mine to shame hahaha
Thank you BUT this is no competition :) I would love to see yours! What’s your Instagram?
@@KirileeCosplay Aha - yesss I know, my Instagram is @styling_thecenturies , but I also did a video on my channel :)
You NAILED IT. This is GORGEOUS. Penelope is my fave!
Mine also!
Girl, now that’s a fabric stash! Damn girl!
Thank you so much!
Gorgeous gown, I never would have guessed you got those great colors from markers! Oh, and I enjoyed your Q and A over on Costuming Drama--that's how I found your channel. :)
Oh thank you! And welcome to my humble little channel!
Just found you. Can't stop drooling over your fabric stash so suitably and creatively stored. And really love your work.
And so good to hear terminology and fabric types that I recognise, ie, Australian!
Hahaha why thank you! And yay! A fellow Aussie!
Love this and love Pen! She was my favorite.
Thank you! I love her too!
You always make me smile. Your content is FABULOUS! Subscribing!
Thank you so much!
So happy I found your channel. You are amazing! I love how happy you are and how you explain things soooo clearly! Such a fun watch.
Thank you so much- you are so kind!
This came out so beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing mistakes as well it shows that crafting/sewing takes trial and error.
The colors are lovely, the trim is just amazing and all components feel like they've been plucked from bridgerton.
Thank you! I feel like showing the mistakes is important because hey, that’s life!
Your stash. Oh my. I wish I had such a stash! Perfect during lockdown...
It is pretty fabulous :)
I love this look, very Featherington! Every time Lacey barks my pupper Noodle would bark back, hehe, thanks for another great video!
Hahaha! My dog growing up was a cocker spaniel called Noodles ^_^
I am glad you enjoyed the video!
We should *all* start wearing Featherington dresses. To the shops, to work, etc
I would be happy to live this life, just saying
You are incredible and so talented! Thank you so much for this wonderful video.
Thank you so much for those very lovely words! ^_^ I’m glad you enjoyed it
I just wanted to let you know that this has inspired me and I had a dream about a dark royaltycore AU Penelope cosplay that I've simply HAD to decide to make bc I'm now OBSESSED with the idea
That sounds so super cool! Yessss
I love the final outcome! So the colours and trim are never going to be to my taste but I love that by simply making ti fit correctly and cut to flatter your body you have shown how Penelope's costumes could have totally looked lovely, even with the Featherington's dubious taste in trim and colour!
Indeed! But I still maintain that they were done like that on purpose!
I just wanted to be comfortable lol
@@KirileeCosplay oh yeah! I definite design choice. it really shows how, for all the effort Lady Featherington puts in she doesn't really "get" it. The Featheringtons don't quite fit in to The Ton just as they don't quite fit into their gowns.
Love that!
The trim should be on a plain white one and the trim would be silk roses in the same colour as the dress
You did a fantastic job!! And with no pattern too!
Thank you! 😊 However, I did use the simplicity pattern as the base pattern :) I just altered it.
Beautiful dress! Lacy is soo cute 🥰
Thank you- she knows it too lol
So much fun! Thanks, Kirilee.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Aaaah! I adore that cherry dress! And the all of this 🥰
Nawwww thank you so much ^_^ it honestly was great fun
I have only recently found your channel and I could watch your videos for hours! I have only been sewing about a year and hope to get to your level one day.
I hope you subscribed so you can watch more later! :)
Honestly, practise is the only thing you need to do- it is skill and you just pick up tricks as you go along :)
Great cosplay and really enjoyed the video 😍
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Love this so much. Looks amazing.
Thank you hun xoxo and happy birthday again!
@@KirileeCosplay thanks dear. You are perfect Birthday viewing... lol.
Hahaha! I am glad that it all lined up :p
You and Angella Clayton turning out some LOOKS
To be put into the same sentence as Angela Clayton is a massive compliment. Thank you
It is beautiful! You are so creative!!
Thank you! 😊
And that's on TALENT
Thank you *blush*
I may be new here but my goodness that fabric stash is huge and very well organised
Why thank you very much! It is a fun collection to grow!
Been waiting for this vid! The Instagram photos were so cute!
Hahaha I am glad I could finally deliver for you!
Yes great result
Luv it
Thanks
Pretty!!! I'm working on making a dress similarish to what she wore when she danced with Colin. ❤
I love that one! In my previous video, I mentioned that I think that is her favourite dress.
Yay! It turned out so awesome! ♥️
Thank you. Long enough? :p
loved this
Thank you!
11:50 UGH threading the overlocker must be one of the most TIDIOUS processes I’ve ever seen.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH MINE HAHAHA.
That’s why I tie off the threads and just sew a scrap piece of fabric until all the threads are the new colour :)
Kirilee Cosplay thanks a lot! I will definitely try this out!
You look beautiful! Well done! 👍🏻👏🏻
Thank you!
Your dress is definitly a Featherington one ! Love it !
Thank you very much :)
Loved this. You look great.
Thank you so much!
I love how accessible you make this seem for someone with not a huge amount of experience! My only question was, do you have any tutorials or videos on how working out the patterns to fit you works? Like how do you know what will fit you and what won't in terms of your measurements vs the pattern pieces? It baffles me! I love this outfit though, very Pen!
I always suggest you use the measurements on the back of the envelope as a guide but also check out the finished bust/ waist measurement on the pattern piece. These are the true measurements of the garment. They are usually on the front bodice piece.
And always do a mock up if unsure :)
@@KirileeCosplay thanks so much! Since it's my first attempt at making any clothes i'll probably buy some cheap cotton to try using a pattern first - any other top tips for a newbie?
I love this one!
Thank you!
Don't know if you'll see this, but id like to see your take on a Penelope-inspired dress from Romancing Mister Bridgerton (Penelope and Colin's book) because there are a lot of descriptions for her dresses in that book (she wears a dark purple dress, mint greens, light blues, creams) or at the very least a design of one of those dresses lol.
Much better colours for her!
Hello fellow Australian! This is fire!!!!!! I loooooove Penny
Thanks so much!

I wanted to ask this for a long time. Do you prefer locking stitches (like that the machine stitches in one place) or reverse stitches?
FUN FACT
you can do locking stitches on every machine! Simply set the stitch length to 0 and let it stitch for about 5-6 stitches. Then set the stitch length back to were it was before. Repeat on the end of the seam.
Cool. I prefer my machine when it locks itself but on this, reverse stitches it is
Kirilee Cosplay I do prefer those also!
loved it Penelope Featherington have worn it in a second
Thank you!
Well done love!!!!
Thank you :)
That's pretty much what my sewing machine is like. It's really hard work!
It is the soothing sounds of the sewing machine right? Lol
I thoroughly enjoyed your video. You are a darling and I identified with you so much. You are soooo cute! Subscribed!
Thanks for subbing! ^_^
Enjoy every sec of your video
Thanks!
Pets and sewing such a mix
Three dogs and cat follows me around
so nervous when I leave fabric or patterns hanging over table
Nawww cute!
I have 4 dresses from Bridgerton on my plate! Each for a friend, I decided I needed to have a Bridgerton themed birthday party. One of my best friends picked a dress from Pen's wardrobe! Its gonna be glorious!
Oh gosh - that is going to be intense to make. I hope that they are all paying you accordingly. :) The party will be fun though!
@@KirileeCosplay it should be fun! Social distancing outside in outrageous regency dresses?! I am down for it. Unfortunately I am not getting paid, its a stash buster project for me. I honestly dont mind it, even if I get the dresses back afterwards.
THis is amazing!
Thank you!
First off - oh my god, it looks gorgeous. (And better fitting than poor Penelope got in the show.) And hey, using the poly shot fabric makes it more accurate to the show's costumes!
Secondly - I gotta ask, where did you get that floral embroidered silk fabric? You're one of the few Australian costubers I know of, and I get such fabric envy from you.
Thank you so much for your kind words!
I got the silk organza with the flowers from a private seller who was getting rid a bit of her stash. Honestly, Facebook and market place is a wonderful tool.
Ahh this video is soo long and I am in love 😻.
Thanks to Kirilee for making my day!
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, it is a good 10 minutes longer than my normal videos and that is with stuff taken out. We shall see what most people think
Kirilee Cosplay ILY THESE LOONG VIDEOS!!! I just. They just relax me. And that soundtrack in the background. Ahh, so mindless 😌☺️
Where on Earth did you find that gorgeous embroidered organza? I really need to add that to my stash.
It was bought second hand off someone getting rid of their stash :)
I'm making a Penelope cosplay but I'm still torn whether to cut off my bust like in show or make it more flattering if you will....
I made mine more flattering because I didn’t want to be uncomfortable
@@KirileeCosplay that's what I'm leaning towards. Loved your costume. I'm going for one of the yellow ones :P My little sister is going to accompany me as Eloise
Hahaha awesome
Heyy my machine sounds like that 😅(the dress turned out fantastic!)
Hahaha
Cool! Fun! And you look good as a redhead! :-)
Thank you! I love making Penelope’s outfits :)
Where do you get your silk fabrics from? I'm in Australia and I find it really hard to source any silk fabric that isn't very sheer, or bridal satin
You may have also guessed from my accent, I am also an Aussie. There are some options for silk in australia- where I am, perth- homecraft textiles (who also have an online store) have a good selection of silk chiffon, satin and really nodular duponi- but I would wait until the annual 50% off usually in March.
Otherwise is you want some good quality silks, The Fabric Store in Sydney and melbourne (I think?) have some and if you can travel, Singapore is the best!
So cute! You are so creative. And who can create without the help from out pets?
Yes.... “help”
You just need a petticoat under it to keep the skirt from between legs when walking. But you really do a good Pen copy! Dress turned out awesome!
cool
Would like to make this gown in gold crystal organsa
Make it then! :)
KIRILEE: Always makes mock-ups and suggested me to make them.
ME: *Just finished a mock - up*
KIRILEE: _Yeah I’m non gonna do a mock - up for this_
ME: WAIT WHAT
HAHAHAHA I've used the pattern before! I know what needs to change!
Kirilee Cosplay 🤣.
Hah, who has accidents while sewing? Certainly not me 😅😂😭
I feel like it is in our DNA :p
I subscribed as soon as you said jigglypuff
Hahaha go check out that make! Lol it was a fun one
@@KirileeCosplay oh I did!
So pretty.... now back to mine. X)
Good luck! You can do it!
💫💫❤
I think that means you liked it?
@@KirileeCosplay of course! I often don't have any real commentary but I know the algorithms are a thing so swirly star+ heart is my go to boost! Always love your fun beautiful energy and smile!
THANK YOU! Yes!!!!
You need a cloak with a giant hood too!
Maybe next time :)
Why not sew the trim down with the sewing machine?
I found the sewing machine was too heavy handed and the stitches where too visible
Please don't test this...LOL
Hahaha I am glad some people like my daggy humour
You are beautiful.
Thank you :)
