Also you can just take a long piece of rubber an wrap it arround the hole area really tightly and then make a knot. If you do it correctly it works perfect
You can do the same with a piece of copper pipe and two hose clamps. Score the outside of the pipe a bit with a hacksaw blade or rugged knife so it grips inside the hose when inserted. Rough-up the surface, pretty much. If you're shaving off pieces of pipe, you're trying too hard.

We also use this lifehack with our hose and works perfect for years now. The only difference is, we are using plastic parts instead of metal.
