I will forever be impressed with Ewan's handle with a saber. Just amazing to watch.
Laura Hildebrand Agreed. He is exquisite and holds his own next to Park albeit in a different style-- but to do that is no small task.
Laura Hildebrand im still with ray park because if you saw his lightsaber demonstrations so really good and that stuff unlike ewan he just only use blocking because he use form 3 and maul use form 7 so its acrobatic, intense, fast and ray park is the guy that with ewan is fighting with his training which is maul
Yeah, especially with Ray Park at his side the two made some really good choreographed fights
Ray Park was far more superior, both on the big screen and in reality.
The prequels had THE best lightsaber fights and lightsaber action in general
FACTS
general kenobi
What do you mean the prequels are the best in general
@@emperorredabilitysfollowin2753 I'm saying they had the best lightsaber action in general.
Originals are the best imo.
@@AnnoyingNerdLoL nah, the prequels are better than the originals
Holy shit that Darth Maul choreo was insane. It is truly impressive to see these men, actors, show so much athletic prowess as to learn and perform that in one take.
***** I highly disagree. I'm not looking for realism. I'm looking for flair, and episode 3 had by far the best choreography. The originals had nothing. Absolutely nothing. *hit* *hit* *talk talk talk talk* *hit* *hit* *talk talk talk* so boring. Episode 7 was alright in terms of combat but nothing even near the Maul fight from 1.
Just like lightsabers are not believable swords to begin with... There is no sense in arguing realism around a fictitious weapon. And there are plenty of martial arts that involve spinning and unpredictable movements. When you have a weightless weapon that you can swing as fast as you can, the combat will get fast paced. The "sword fighting" in the originals were not even fighting. They touched blades a couple times during a conversation. Hardly an epic battle.
+xellossaxon and i don't think he means the acual fighting but the way they move soo fast and that is not that easy you know
+Marc-Étienne Bernier Also no point of arguing about a FICTIONAL UNIVERSE where both Jedi and Sith have an ability to predict one's moves up to a point. So that excuses the awesomeness behind the prequel's lightsaber duels. I am sick of people trying to discredit ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING Lucas did with the prequels. All y'all need to grow the fuck up and start enjoying films. Not saying the prequels were better that the originals. Just fucking stop with being so vocal. Gives me a fucking headache every time I read one of those fanboys posts. And as far as Episode 7 goes.Recycled Episode 4 and Sword fighting was terrible. There, I said it. Was a good movie but they played it too safe. I hope for more choreography in the next installments.
+Marc-Étienne Bernier you like that check out some hong kong cinema, Jackie Chan :p
Liam Neeson style was more measured and focused. Mcgregor pure energy and speed.
See Rob Roy. Liam knows how to use a sword.
Jurica Kovačević Obi Wan is the aggressive young apprentice, Qui Gonn is the tamed wise master. In terms of the actual actor's skills, I assume Liam had more experience with swordfighting practice.
+andrewvanrhoberts To me it looks like Ewan is way better trained than Liam. You mean real swordfighting without the flashy choreography, I guess.
+iWillWakeYouUp Liam has done a number of movies prior to Phantom Menace where he had to do sword fighting.
I saw an interview somewhere where Mcgregor talked about how he and Ray Park would just go at each other so fast that they actually had to slow down the shots (usually they have to speed them up to make it look faster and cooler)
I'm impressed by Ray Park, you can tell he takes his role seriously, and puts maximum effort and discipline into these scenes.
Didn't realise how dangerous it is. Probably why Obi vs Maul after Qui Gon is down is the best part
"Just be careful 'cause they can turn on when you're doing this."
Ha. LOL
The choreography in the training sessions of the prequels was better than the finished product of the last jedi
I can't argue against that
ikr. that praetorian’s guard knife disappears when hes fighting rey
Facts
@@Despafrfr years of training, including blood, lots of sweat and some sacrifices to become the best praetorian guard just to get killed by a girl that has been playing with a lightsaber for a month and doesn't even embrace her own lastname to become a better person
Ewan and Ray are both in character during choreography. That's impressive.
Back when the actors could actually remember 15-20 choreos and didn't need cuts every 2 seconds.
I know this is a late reply but it’s sad that movie directors want that fast choppy action sequences when some actors are capable of training for longer sequences, a recent example is that woman who plays Layla in moon knight had long sequences of her training but in the final footage it was all chopped up
the moment when you recognise each fight scene from the actual movie
Qui gon jin-liam neeson~ireland
Obi wan kanobi-ewan mcgregor~scotland
Darth maul-ray park~england
The celtics that made this movie watchable
1) Ray Park is scottish
2) England is not a celtic nation.
SCOTTISH REPRESENT
Darth maul-ray park~scotland
Isn't Ray Park from Glasgow?
Episode 1 was definitely one of my favorites, mainly because of that final fight scene. I must have seen it at least 7 or 8 times in the theater, always wishing I could just fast forward and get to the good part :D
Lots of respect for Ray Park and Ewan McGregor. Gotta say Ewan pulled it off, he had a lot of intensity and emotion in that fight plus he was fast and looked good next to Ray Park which is no easy thing to do. Ray Park is simply badass especially as Darth Maul.
Better lightsaber choreography than the sequels
Everyone in those films had baseball bat form 🤦♀️
Liam Neeson, the best of the Phantom Menace.
Alekka Cosmos Liam Nesson and Ewan
I am SO amazed by how much effort they have put into this ! :O
No wonder Obi-wan/Qui-Gon vs Darth Maul duel has become the kind of scene you never get tired of watching ! :)
Ewan was really good
As a student of Katana Jiu Jitsu, I recognise that fight scenes like this are like a choreographed "kata". Precision moves that are repeated and burnt into the performer's muscle memory. Ewan and Ray look like they are having a lot of fun with them, but they are also taking into account that one wrong step with the weapon contacts can badly hurt either themselves or each other. I love the effort they put into the fight scenes, just a shame the rest of the film didn't match the standard.
This is what was missing from the sequels. Training and practice with this type of choreography is what sets the prequel trilogy lightsabers apart.
The amount of effort put into these fights is what we want in any action scene.
really nice to see an actor doing his own fight scenes, good job Ewan McGregor. The best lightsaber duel in the new star wars to me, is the one being praticed here.
dude, look at ray park looking all badass in military fatigues and combat boots! Long live Maul!
I will always be thankful of Ewan, Ray and Hayden for what essentially is the only real good sword action scenes ever.
i much prefer watching this to the actual fight scene.
The whacks do make it rather satisfying
I have to say, with how intense these fight scenes were, I am surprised that a black eye was the worst that happened. Just goes to show how good these men really are (actors and stuntmen alike)!
Ewan mcgregor is so good at this.
i love ray and ewan ♥
0:30 holy shit that was faster than the actual movie
It was probably as fast in the movie since they did say the scenes of the final battle were slowed down because they feared it would look too fake .
Holy shit, Ewan, that was amazing to watch!
I would’ve loved to see Adam Driver fight like this. Instead of that shit in the sequels where they were just bashing each others blades like some toddlers.
If Lucas put as much effort into the writing as he did designing action sequences, we might have actually gotten a good movie.
We got amazing movies.
I love how Ewan McGregor does the lightsaber spin. Damn.
Hell yeah Ewen's a babe and kick ass at welding a lightsaber, sighs. I had and still do have a massive fan crush on Ewen's Obie Won.
Ewan is so hot and he so good with the lightsaber. It looks like he's been doing weapons martial arts forever.
That's my favorite too! He puts so much heart and effort into this movie and his career that if he became more famous and stayed the funny, sensitive, independent and lovable guy we know him as, he could win some major acting (and/or singing like in "Moulin Rouge" which I am going to watch as soon as I'm done typing this!) awards!!!
Seeing the best lightsaber duel from TPM rehearsed is so satisfying, specifically the whacks. :).
I could seriously watch theses all day
Gotta love ray's fatigue pants
The things i always loved about the lightsaber duels of both Prequels and Originals is their different kinds of swordfighting.
Prequels for being advanced and passionate.
And Originals for being grounded and dramatic.
Something that the new Sequel Trilogy is always lacking and missing.
So many OGs in this documentary
Ewan can fight!
McGregor vs Park looks pretty real...
I'm glad that I'm not the only one the think Ray is hot, not really a Ewan and Liam fan but their both good actors...
Obi wan is my favorite
Ewan could have played a BADASS Connor McLeod! Just watching him ROCK IT in the blue jeans, sweater and tennis shoes takes me back to HIGHLANDER ;)
this so damn cool how ewan acts with his saber. i tried to learn but hoooooh it´s real hard.
..........amazing......
star wars is the best for me.. i wouldn't choose any movie except star wars.. i will stay with my favourite.. well, this training is awesome
Man, Neeson is HUGE!
the light saber Ewan picked was the best one
Mark Renton becomes a jedi
+manuvidalsk8 off the skag, eh young padawan? xD
i see Darth Maul has a small accident on a plan (his left eye)
This Video is better than Episode 7 8 and 9 Together
They should bring Darth Maul back
They did. hes in the animated series. not sure what happens after though.
***** actually he survived the fight with obi-wan and got cybernetic legs later on ...they did really bring him back in the clone wars animated series with his brother savage opress
That was awesome, especially Ewan and Ray's practice.
1:43
- Vincent. We happy?
- Yeah, we happy
The ahsoka show needed this type of training and choreography
Always loved watched Neeson fight. He's a tall guy but very smooth and dexterious with his movements, particularly in the wrists.
"Tell me again why aren't we using sticks for this?"
"THIS IS THE END FOR YOU"
Say what you will about the prequel trilogy, the lightsaber choreography was absolutely fantastic.
0:59 holy shit, theres actually no more makeup necessary ;)
The block behind the head sequence at 0:33 always does it for me
i would have the biggest smile at 1:47 if i were ewan
dang ewan
Disney: So anyways, I started swinging
I love watching them! Any type of sword fighting is amazing. ^^
Man when the blades whistles past Ewan's head at 1:07! He really would have eaten that thing if he forgot to duck.
There's no way Rey in episode 9 with her double bladed lightsaber is going to look anywhere close to Ray Parks skills.
Don Jacoby yea Rey sucks, but Ray Park is using a different type of fighting style which is more acrobatic
Yeah also because she had them for 12 seconds in a hallucination. The sequels are genuinely such a disappointment
Actually Ewan's stunt blade bent because until Episode 3 they were using thin aluminum blades. For Episode 3 they were using wonderful Carbon Fiber blades which were extremely resistant to bending and breaking.
10 years later the people in star wars the last jedi mess up during fighting.
I wished I get to learn how to weld it. Great practice from Ewan and Ray. So cool!!
"Very nice. Very Jedi!!"
Impressive... Most impressive.
0:53 Jedi smith working
Awesome 😎
I hope Finn, Rey and Kylo get to this level of fighting by Episode 9...they would have an epic battle
Well how did it go ?
Awesome thing
Thank you!!!
Best scene ever
Paid to learn how to do a lightsaber fight. Ended up becoming a master and enjoyed it
Hey, look! Cin Drallig! :D
Those lightsabers at the end look sexy.
How can you tell if its a prequel duel: They fucken go max speed on the swings and spins
Anyone here from 2019? lol
people need to stop hating on the prequels
Bruh, the rods bent...
It's so weird tosee someone as SEXY as Ewan McGregor to be such a big Star Wars fan, I mean he knows the colors of the lightsabers of the different people and he TOTALLY gets into the saber fights (unlike Liam Neeson but he's older and he's wife just died so you got to give him some credit even though she died waaay after this was filmed!!) He could get hurt doing stuff like that!
i loved that scene in the movie
Ray Park looked like he was in character... =)
The Force is strong with these ones.
I would give anything to be in one of these movies.
Cool it paid off
Dude! Check out 0:35 Ray is very fast. That turn was quick!
imagine nick gillard walks up to you with a chest full of lightsabers and tells you to pick one!
This is more like dancing with the stars !
This video is older than my little brother.
Who needs reasons when you've got the force?
The reason why I like Episode I the most? Liam Neeson.
Ray Park flipping enjoyed doing this. I mean c'mon!
For me, the fall of the Golden Age of the Jedi needs to be a spectacle. It needs the carefully choreographed, finesse-heavy, blazing battle. This is the last gasp for the jedi and the republic. I think it needs to be that way. Pomp in the prequels and grit after. It fits, i'd say.
Ray Park is the fucking man, shame they killed Darth Maul off in Episode 1. At least his we got to see more of him in comic books and The Clone Wars.
The Clone Wars is canon.
God, I didn't realise how tall Liam Neeson is till this video ^.^
