The fact the red dude threw a 720° tornado kick in the middle and the blue/green guy knew to duck it made this so amazing, it was so beautiful to see a high level fencer and a high level staff fighter going at it with the lightsabers. The cool thing about a double sided lightsaber is because sabers don’t require edge alignment a 2 sided lightsaber is very similar to a staff so it’s a lot more practical than a 2 sided sword
Now a slow circle around the duelists. *That* would be interesting to see. And by slow, I mean *slow*. That 3 minutes later, it completes 1 full rotation.

no where near committed, there was so much pointless flailing. A realistic approach should be heavy strike and both of them would be going for each others necks instead of just swinging and jumping and spinning

I cannot believe how amazing this video was! Those two light saber duelist pulled off classic hi high-quality super ninja light saber dual without cut screen or working with a net. They just went at each other with all their might and somehow they made it look more real than the movies. These two should definitely play Jedi and SITH in a Star Wars movie! I feel truly lucky to have seen this, and I want to share it with everyone I love!!!
that dude representing the dark side with that long dark hair and goth clothing is absolute fucking perfection, its like Vader in his prime if he beat Obi-Wan on Mustafar and never ended up needed the suit.
They swapped lightsabers mid-fight and it looked very authentic. The whole thing was well choreographed and their moves and expressions really sold the fight. This is ART.
I really enjoy how they did that as well and if you pay close attention they each have a different fighting style when wielding the others weapon. The jedi was so adjusted to a staff weapon he was unsure of where to strike at his opponent while wielding the single hilt, while the sith instead of being elegant and nibble with the staff saber was more harsh and trying to batter his opponent into submission.
I have seen all the movies. Even when the original Star Wars came out in the theaters in the 70's. Ya, in my late 50's kids. I was about 10 at the time. This is the best saber performance I have personally seen yet. Outstanding!
@@rekdyoface4503 That was bad ass too. I watch that one on here often enough too. It is mostly because these two are amateur. What is really too bad is nobody is there to watch and those that are seem utterly unimpressed. To bad.
I've watched this duel a few times through various re-uploads throughout its existence and I'm always astounded by just how it looks. The choreography is just perfect. One little easily missable detail is that after that incredibly fluid lightsaber swap, the duelists back off and fight much more defensively as they are both now using a fighting style that they don't know very much about. You can see that the sith doesn't use the dual-bladed saber nearly as frenetic and fluidly as the jedi and is much more cautious as to not accidentally chop himself in half, whereas the jedi is still trying to use his fast fluid dual-bladed style but is constantly having to flip and twist his saber in awkward positions because he now only has a single blade, leading to his eventual defeat. Not exactly sure it was intentional but its still really cool.
Darth Maul stunt actor was good but even though I know it is a twirly ridiculous back-spinning choreo'd stage fight, this was a little more believable and fun to watch than what was in the movies. Add the amazing sets and these guys would have stolen the show.
The most lively duel I've ever seen. (With the exception of the Star Wars films from episodes 1 to 3 and the fights from the Clone Wars from season 1 to season 6)
Especially from the guy using the staff Saber. I've always wondered the practicality of them when you could instead just dual sabers but he makes that look phenomenal
@@Voondubah switching your swinging stance while still going for the same spot as the last swing is a great way to throw your opponent off. Besides we usually only see people hitting in the same spots with power strikes, like Luke cutting off Vader's arm. I think it's a nice change!

It's a crying shame so few people in the audience are seeing this. It's utterly incredible seeing these guys move at what feels like superhuman speed. If only the films could look half as good. Major applause to both gentlemen for a phenomenal performance.
This is giving me those amazing prequel duel vibes. The original trilogy fights were good, but rather slow paced. We aren’t going to talk about sequels, but the prequels have a perfect mix between fast paced and action packed while also being relevant to the story.
Imo, I think the prequel fights were so epic compared to the other trilogies because that was an era where there were more Jedi and Sith that actually were more practiced in lightsaber combat and ever since the Jedi Purge, most knowledge about Lightsaber combat and forms of combat were lost and thus no one really knows how to do epic fights anymore and are all just clumsily improvising.
"We aren't going to talk about the sequels" haha. The fact that a fan said this as a given and everyone else just accepted it is hilarious to me for some reason.
That move is very similar to what Anakin does vs Obi-Wan on Mustafar. He does a flourish (where the saber goes behind his back) and spins as he flourishes. The spin exposes his back to Obi-Wan, but the flourish blocks an attack from behind coming from Obi-Wan. It's a very advanced and technically impressive lightsaber parry.
@@1994AustinSmith Yeah, pretty much. It's actually not a super effective move since it does expose you more than just keeping your guard in front. However, certain Lightsaber forms require you to twirl and spin a lot, so this kind of spin-flourish-parry action would fit perfect in those forms.
Part of the reason why it feels like the blades have weight is because they actually do. These lightsabers use thick polycarbonate blades. The movie props used carbon fiber rods for their blades. That being said, realistically a lightsaber blade wouldn't have much weight. The blade is essentially plasma contained in a magnetic field. You also wouldn't be bashing them around, as the blade would be able to do all the cutting work for you. Realistic lightsaber combat would be a lot like competitive fencing with a focus on reaching out and touching your opponent.
"a more elegant weapon for a more civilized time" I didn't understand it at the time, but now I see it, this is not just a battle, it's a dance, a beautiful dance.
indeed, think about the damage, somehow getting cut by a lightsaber is personal, the strength from the hand of your killer is the thing that kills you, you die very near your attacker, with a blaster is impersonal, you fall flat dead in the ground far from the shooter, what kills you is the bolt fired from a chamber activated by a single finger.
Can you imagine just how many times they had to practice how to, when to, and where to hit to make this duel look perfect?! They seriously have been likely practicing this duel since last year. Getting every movement, hit, dodge, swing, and death right. These guys seriously deserve Oscars for the choreography shown in this entire scene. Even though it’s “only” 1 minute. We’re seeing greatness at its finest. These kids have serious talent! Whether that talent is being Masters of the Jedi/Sith, or Masters of fencing.
when choreographing with lightsabers (both in the official movies and at the various "jedi academies" that exist IRL) they teach swordsmen to actually swing at the opponent, too, which makes exchanges look more realistic, but often results in getting hit with the lightsaber sticks, which can be painful! Samuel L. Jackson recalls getting swatted in the face and hands a few times practicing for the "darth sidious" fight, and said it hurts
Well these aren’t actors who got a role demanding choreography, these are masters of choreography competing in a choreography competition.. I’d be pretty surprised if it wasn’t better than the movie..
I love how you can even notice differences between both fight styles, the double sabled one is way more aggresive while the one sabled one is more defensive and reactionary, this even stays true when they switch sabers
Interestingly enough, in one old legends novel Sith blademaster noted that saber-staff is better utilized as a defensive weapon rather than offensive one. He said that biggest potential of saber-staff is that it caughts it's opponents off-guard, because it's relatively rare sight and neither Jedi nor Sith know how to effectively defend against it.
It's built for pressure and constant aggression. Hence Juyo. Not all that different from real life forms of the same. It's defensive capability and offensive lie in the reach but the former less so, because its harder to maneuver and correct over extension. Rusty...is just well...lol. Ignore whatever that is.
The advantage of a dual-bladed lightsaber is having the ability of both defensive and offensive tactics. While your opponent is focused on one of you blades, you can get the jump on them with the other. While single bladed lightsabers need to be brought around to block every other strike, you can simply turn your dual-bladed one slightly to the left or right
I've also heard that there is some written material talking about the weakness of the double bladed style being that even with the reach and two blades you still have to bring it around to use both making it so its easier to read if you know where one of the blades is in relation to the other. I could actually see some of that in the fight where if you see one blade drop its easier to guess where the other one was coming around.
@@ErraticFaith it's all about getting a flow going that makes you dance with the weapon. It'd say its 50/50 weapon that takes advantage of whatever movements you can do with you body even more so when you start "rowing" in your motions with them they can easily create a huge area of denial once in motion
Can't believe theres like 10 person in the back watching... This was better than any fight scene of any of the star wars movie. Incredible, whish I saw that 8 years ago!!
That part where they both try to grab each other's lightsabers and then end up swapping is such a cool move. That's the kind of creativity I want in the movies, and it's what keeps me coming back to this video
In their imagination, it's just as intense and awesome as this video. In reality, you see a kid in the backyard with a bucket on his head swing a stick up and down standing still lol.

It sounded like an actual lightsaber duel, and the moves were performed so well the entire choreagraphy just flowed into a near perfect battle. 9.5 out of 10 from me!
Around 1:14 the try to disarm eachother and end up switching sabers. As a result, they both end up with weapons they're not used to. Yet, their fighting styles only slightly changed. The Jedi still posed like he had more saber than he did and the Sith still played heavily defensive as if he still didn't have much saber to protect him. They both seemed used to their previous fighting styles and only adapted the weapon into their original style designed for their old weapons instead of changing to a style that would better use said saber. F****ing brilliant.
I mean if they did you could easily say “wow the fact that they changed fighting styles means they’ve spent a lot of time mastering it and really shows how skilled they are at using different lightsabers”
You know this is like a dance, right? They trained this and already knew that they would eventually have to change weapons. As cool as it sounds, they had trained this before. But it's still amazing
That's the point, that they didn't choreograph it that way they both used both lightsabers perfectly, but chose to make it look like they weren't used to the other's weapon ;). That's a little bit more convincing.

Double blade: watch me
I've watched this duel a few times through various re-uploads throughout its existence and I'm always astounded by just how it looks.

This is giving me those amazing prequel duel vibes. The original trilogy fights were good, but rather slow paced. We aren’t going to talk about sequels, but the prequels have a perfect mix between fast paced and action packed while also being relevant to the story.
Exactly what we were going for!
Sequels duels just disrespected every lightsaber form
Imo, I think the prequel fights were so epic compared to the other trilogies because that was an era where there were more Jedi and Sith that actually were more practiced in lightsaber combat and ever since the Jedi Purge, most knowledge about Lightsaber combat and forms of combat were lost and thus no one really knows how to do epic fights anymore and are all just clumsily improvising.
"We aren't going to talk about the sequels"
haha. The fact that a fan said this as a given and everyone else just accepted it is hilarious to me for some reason.
In the originals defense, they were made in like the 70s
That behind the back move at 1:40 is absolutely insane
That move is very similar to what Anakin does vs Obi-Wan on Mustafar. He does a flourish (where the saber goes behind his back) and spins as he flourishes. The spin exposes his back to Obi-Wan, but the flourish blocks an attack from behind coming from Obi-Wan. It's a very advanced and technically impressive lightsaber parry.
@Thallanar Rabidtooth So it's like "Here's my back. Sike!"?
@@1994AustinSmith Yeah, pretty much. It's actually not a super effective move since it does expose you more than just keeping your guard in front. However, certain Lightsaber forms require you to twirl and spin a lot, so this kind of spin-flourish-parry action would fit perfect in those forms.
I have been doing taekwondo for 8 years and I can do that
@@catalyst999 Sorry it took me so long to respond, I've been looking for who asked.
I feel like this hits the balance between Original and Prequel light saber duels.
High action and fast paced but feels like it has weight.
VestedUTuber dunno if you missed what he meant or not

You'd never get such a beautiful performance in a gun fight. These guys did great!
indeed, think about the damage, somehow getting cut by a lightsaber is personal, the strength from the hand of your killer is the thing that kills you, you die very near your attacker, with a blaster is impersonal, you fall flat dead in the ground far from the shooter, what kills you is the bolt fired from a chamber activated by a single finger.

Wait they switched sabers?

😭 so true AHAHAH
