Unbelievable how luxurious, stylish and technologicallly advanced this car was. No wonder there is that phrasing of "The Cadillac of..." fill in the blank.
Hi Sabba_Dabba, Predating its inception in 1902 Cadillac was preordained to set new world standards for precision. The company’s founder, Henry M. Leland, apprenticed under the legendary gunsmith Samuel Colt where he learned the significance of precision engineering, a standard he brought to his fledgling automobile company. Cadillac’s adopted slogan, “The Standard of the World Award,” dates back to winning the 1908 Dewar Trophy, in its day the “Nobel Prize” of engineering for proving the precision interchangeability of its cars.
Late 19676869 & 70 were the Golden Age of Power and Design.Ilived in Flint and travelled to about 35% of Michigan towns and sights Holland tulip festival to Machine Island favorite is Dearborn Village.what a great match.. ☮️ Toby
My father was a mechanic here in Brazil during 50s and 60s last century, when Brazil did not had a national automotive industry. Back then we only had imported car or CKD (completely knocked down) units that was assembled here, my father told me that in the 50s Cadillacs were the most luxury and advanced cars that the money could buy, if you were rich, Cadillac was the way tô Go. Very Nice car. It is Sad Cadillac was not able to keep the glamour, I like the brend. Buick was also a great car in the 50s, would like to see one in your Channel. Great vídeo, thank you for upload!
My friends dad had the Eldorado version in the colour green as seen at the 06:19 mark . It was from CA , but because he had 3 cars and a narrow driveway the caddy was parked at the back area of the house under a tarp and needed a couple of repairs plus wasn't driven in the upper State winters with salt on the road . I remember those rims but the tires didn't have white walls but had about a 1/8" wide mustard coloured strip while the normal tire for regular cars was white , the tires also had TUBELESS in raised letters which amazed me for 1957 . Nice how the designers carry over a theme to areas of the car. Take another look at the lower rear light and exhaust ports , there a matching rear fender FIN in chrome recessed right at the 12 o'clock position and anchored to that center piece for the backup lights while the exhaust port ones are larger but they both match the design for the front bumper Dagmar bullets . A buyer would never know that useless the got a good look at them and connected the Fin and Dagmars , even the brakelight bezel eyebrow from the side curves in at the equator for a slope that matches the angle for the vertical fin portion right above it but the Bezel also is a smaller version of the headlight eyebrow . One day when 2 of the cars were out , someone drove by that was a cadillac follower and glanced in the driveway. The lower bumper was expose while the trap was lose and showed the tips of the fins. BINGO....this guy knew exactly what is was and had only seen the roof area in the last year of taking that route. But when he got close he saw roof shape under the canvas and couldn't believe it because the area had short summers and cold winters where soft tops didn't sell well. He wanted the car ' as is ' but it wasn't for sale until he finally offered a large cash amount because he knew it was from California and didn't see locals winters . The cash was greater than his dad's attachment for the memories of driving around L.A. with the top down and he was the 2nd owner .

FABULOUS example of the Biarritz, which aside from the unobtainable Eldo Brougham, was simply the finest motorcar EVER made in US history. Now I do want to point out, as an aside, that several of the phillips head screws are not oriented north-and-south. So 1 demerit on what is probably the best example we've seen yet. Many moons ago, when I lived in Minnesota, I drove a friend's 1957 Eldorado Biarritz convertible in an Independence Day parade. During the parade, the power brake booster gave up the ghost without notice, and when I had to stop the car as the High School marching band was going to be performing in front of the reviewing stand, the brake pedal was HARD AS A BRICK! With all my might and with both feet on the large brake pedal, I PUSHED it down towards the floor a very little and the car did come to a stop! Otherwise there would have been some flattened Tubas and bent twirler's batons that day! :)

Thanks Lou for sharing this beautiful Cadillac eldorado. That mr. Nagle sure has some beautiful automobiles he's got quite a collection. All top notch and just gorgeous all of his cars. A year before I was born that was a big big heavy car! It's nothing like a lot of chrome on a car or old car like that. Thank you Lou for sharing this car for all of us to seealso thanks to mr. Nagle also for letting us see another one of his beautiful automobiles.
Must be careful following this car when riding a motorcycle, you could poke an eye out...LOL.....wonderful car Lou......I can imagine Elvis driving one.
My aunt bought one of these new, but it was charcoal gray with white interior and a black top. She died in 2007 and my dad, her brother, sold it in 2008 for $105k. BTW, it also had A/C, but as I recall, that was dealer installed.
Back in the 50s and 50s, an uncle of mine was a cop...he stood 6'2", weighed at least 300lbs, and insisted that he needed a big, comfortable Cadillac to go with his image!...He was one impressive dude, when rolling out of his Caddies, wearing his uniform and side-arm!..He only drove Cadillacs for many years!
Amazing, Lou! Cape Buffalo hide? You definitely don't see that everyday. This Caddy truly has it all. Thanks for sharing Ken & another great car of his with us!
That particular year and that particular model really is a show stopper. I think the owner meant to say that the black color while certainly makes for a rich looking car, the black paint job best shows off the LINES of the car. It's classy and sexy. 😍

With the '57-'60 Eldorados the Brougham was the top of the line and about double the price of the Biarritz. The Broughams were made as a response to Ford creating the Continental make, GM one-uped Ford with the '57 Eldorado Brougham being even more expensive the the $10k '56 Continental Mark II. Though this car and any Biarritz is nothing to sneeze at. I especially love that interior.

Stunning car Lou. Thanks for sharing. I agree 1957 Eldorado Biarritz is the best year for sure. My question is I believe the gentleman said its all original with the original interior but the codes on the car say it was a blue car with a blue top and all black interior
Hi Marcus, Happy to read you enjoy this stunning car. Ken has so MANY cars (all featured on the Channel too) that he may have missed a code or two :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing your knowledge, and you're welcome, Lou
Wonderful. I was so hoping he would drop the top......next time. Interesting note in how convertible tops are now designed, even this elegant and expensive Cadillac had a very old style unfinished inside/interior of the top, whereas new convertibles usually have a padded, lined top that looks much more finished and is much quieter. But I love any convertible. Thanks Lou. Cheers.
Hi rizzle razzleuno, You're on the right Channel as there are many convertibles here. Stay tuned, the next one coming up is a convertible :-) You're welcome, and Cheers, Lou
Gorgeous car, body and interior perfect, might need to be dialed in a little more, or taken out for a ride on the highway and blown out, I'd be afraid too, but you gotta open those dual quads up, thanks for another great video, very informative
What a beautiful automobile, the word car is too pedestrian a description for this. Lou is it just me or did that engine have a valve or lifter knock. I know it was a cold start but the exhaust smoke leads me to think we had an engine that was a bit tired. I guess after 63 years we all wheeze a bit LOL. Another of Lou's great car finds. Thanks so much for allowing us to see such wonderful automobiles.
Once again Lou you sure do find them.. kudos...oh man back in the day they were around you had a boatload of dough..rae..me..thanks again Bob from Pittsburgh
Did this car originally come with a drum clock?? My 57 Biarritz has a drum clock as does my 58 Eldorado Brougham????? Gorgeous car!! I just missed out on a triple black, 57 Biarritz unfortunately, it would have complemented my red one nicely!! 😖Just saw the Petersen 57 Biarritz which does also have the rare drum clock.. No 2x4 carbs/bat wing air cleaner though!!

These were rare in 1957. Probably easier to see them now (in car shows) than it was to see one on the highway back in 1957. I was a car geek in those days. Saw maybe 5 of them in all of the 50's and 60's. And that includes ALL 1957 Eldorado's, not just convertibles.

Gorgeous car!! Made the year before I was born lol. Sounds like either starter dragged or timing a little off on the start. Also from what I could see it looked like the brake system and power steering system may be together as one unit. Very nice car!!!
That's really a beautiful car I like all the chrome on it and it looks great in black. I guess you can say it was a little ahead of time with power windows power seats and hydro boost brakes.
Hi Lou. I hope you are well and I wish you a wonderful and healthy year ahead. I would if I could like to ask you a question. The trophy in the trunk, is that a wheel rim from a Cadillac?.......It look's very similar to the wheels shown on this car.....Also, this is truly one of the best Cadillacs you've shown us. Beautiful. Thank you Lou and God bless you.
Hi wide awake, Thank you and wonderful year and health received. It does appear to be a rim. Agreed, a Ken Nagle car is a treat to video for sure. God bless you too, and you're welcome, Lou

Great car, I noticed something on this Biarritz that I've haven't seen on any other, it's got a lock on the gas cap door, also that fin looks exactly like the upper half of a 57 Chevy fin. Thanks Lou.

I like the 57's better than the 58's because the 57's exhaust went out the back bumper. The fins on this almost look like an afterthought. I think it was done to give the deck a more tapered look. I like the look.
I would definitely sell a kidney for one of these-one of my all time favorites. Engine sounds a little rough up front-what is that ticking? Sounds like a lifter or exhaust manifold leak. Also looks like it is blowing blue smoke unless my eyes are cheating me. Burning oil? Thanks for sharing-Great car! As someone commented, 1957 was a great year for cars!

Shame about the blowby and the sticking lifter. I'd expect more from a "concours" restoration. I had a 57 Caddy years ago and it was quiet as a church mouse.

@@loucostabile thanks Lou. Great channel. I'm a huge fan.
'57 & '58 - the best Caddy of all times.
High praise coming from "Rolls Royce" :-)
Still looks awesome Lou, and thanks for sharing.
HI Ed B. Glad you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Wow! What a beautiful car! That color is so elegant! A classy ride. You always have great car stories Lou!
Hi Joseph Romano, Glad to receive a "Wow!" from you :-) Happy to read you're enjoying the stories, Lou
High bar Lou!
High praise Mike!
@@loucostabile You find some pretty sweet rides!
Gorgeous car, body and interior perfect, might need to be dialed in a little more, or taken out for a ride on the highway and blown out, I'd be afraid too, but you gotta open those dual quads up, thanks for another great video, very informative
Hi Pontiac GrandPrix73, I'm in for a "open up those dual quads" moment :-) Good idea! Lou
Hi Rick McIntyre, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) I didn't hear any lifter knock, however we'll check into that, Lou
An American icon and so beautiful. Great that it's being preserved so well but... That motor needs a good road trip !
Hi The Jersey J, Glad to read you enjoy this car. I like the "good road trip" idea :-) Lou
I LOVE IT! Part James Bond car - Part Batmobile! I'm giving her a Trident of Wows without hesitation!
High praise :-)
Once again Lou you sure do find them.. kudos...oh man back in the day they were around you had a boatload of dough..rae..me..thanks again Bob from Pittsburgh
Hi Bob from Pittsburgh, Thank you for the kind words on the work to search for cars I hope you (and I) enjoy :-) Lou
Silk, Butter , Velvet . I'm not worthy . That car is excessive . The cars you feature are unbelieveable . As always , thanks for posting .
HI Bud Lee, I enjoy reading your comment on this car :-) You're welcome, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Hi Ken Kw, Not sure on the "drum clock" and hoping a Viewer can share knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this UA-cam Channel, Lou

A Harley Earl masterpiece. He was definitely competing with Virgil Exner of Chrysler and John Tjaarda at FoMoCo's Lincoln-Mercury Division.
Hi Dejael, Thank you for sharing, Lou
Stunning whip
:-)
Hi Lou !
Thats a gem of a Caddy.
Hi Clem ! Glad you enjoy this car :-) Me too, Lou
These were rare in 1957. Probably easier to see them now (in car shows) than it was to see one on the highway back in 1957. I was a car geek in those days. Saw maybe 5 of them in all of the 50's and 60's. And that includes ALL 1957 Eldorado's, not just convertibles.

@@loucostabile Thanks Lou. And already subscribed. And appreciate the in-depth tours you give of these old gems.
This car is dripping with class. I’d feel I’d have to be in a tuxedo every time I drive it, even just going to the corner store for milk!
That is a fun idea :-)
Cadillac should reintroduce those rims. They would look good on current models.
Good idea.
Oh my gosh ! That gives me a pocket rocket ! I love black Caddys ! 🚓✨
Yep, You're a "Car Guy" :-)
Beautiful luxury elegance Precious piece 👍👍👍👍
Thank you Lou..
Hi Ammar Dukmak, High praise for this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Gorgeous car!! Made the year before I was born lol. Sounds like either starter dragged or timing a little off on the start. Also from what I could see it looked like the brake system and power steering system may be together as one unit. Very nice car!!!
Hi Phil, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thanks for sharing what you see & hear, Lou
@@loucostabile yes! It's exactly the way cars should be made and magnified how cheaply made they are today.
Another great review Lou! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Hi tigerbyte0, Glad to read you enjoy this video / car :-) Thank you for the kind encouraging words, Lou
Amazing car. Thanks for sharing this, Lou!
HI Scott Vermillion, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Lou
That's really a beautiful car I like all the chrome on it and it looks great in black. I guess you can say it was a little ahead of time with power windows power seats and hydro boost brakes.
Hi Pete Medina, Glad you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Me too, Lou
Beautiful car.
Hi Randy Tompkins, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) I like it too, Lou
That is SOME piece of machinery, what a car! 😳😲👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻😍
Well said :-)
Absolutely fantastic, really. Good video👍👍👍
Thank you Roberto Benigni :-)
THE BEST
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-)
IT NEEDS TO BE DRIVEN MORE
I'd like to help drive this one more :-)
lol my grandparents bought their first 4 bedroom brick townhome in Baltimore that same year for $8,000, cars have always been as much as houses lol

Imported Cape buffalo hide wow. 😮 This man is a true Cadillac Man.
Hi Andy Atom Cat, "true Cadillac Man" Nice, I like that :-) Lou
Sweet ride!
:-)
Nice video Lou!
Thank you Caddy Daddy :-)
Great car, I noticed something on this Biarritz that I've haven't seen on any other, it's got a lock on the gas cap door, also that fin looks exactly like the upper half of a 57 Chevy fin.
Thanks Lou.
Hi C Smith, Glad to read you enjoy this "great car" and enjoy reading the details you learned about too, Lou
What a dream car! : )

That was the best Eldorado until 1972. The '72 was the best they made in my personal opinion. I so much love the '57. What a car! Happy New Year Lou!
Hi Eagle Whitefeather01, Glad to read one you "love" :-) Happy New Year! Lou
I can't thank you enough for uploading this! Love the car and commentary.
Hi salvador cortes, Thank you for viewing and sharing you enjoy this episode :-) Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
I like the 57's better than the 58's because the 57's exhaust went out the back bumper. The fins on this almost look like an afterthought. I think it was done to give the deck a more tapered look. I like the look.
Hi bob marker, Glad to read you like this one, and thank you for sharing the details you enjoy, Lou
She's tough!!

Cadillac is always so classy. However, I like Packards just a tad more.
Hi Todd Wall, Glad to read you enjoy this "classy" car, even thought it comes in 2nd place :-) Lou
Nice intro to 2019
Hi Vincent Basso, Thought I'd start out with a Winner :-) Lou
Wow, that's a really nice car! Sound's like it might have a small exhaust leak.
Hi David Keleshian, Glad to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Lou
Very Nice 😀
Glad you enjoy this car :-)
WOW lou 😊
Glad you enjoy this car :-)
I would definitely sell a kidney for one of these-one of my all time favorites. Engine sounds a little rough up front-what is that ticking? Sounds like a lifter or exhaust manifold leak. Also looks like it is blowing blue smoke unless my eyes are cheating me. Burning oil? Thanks for sharing-Great car! As someone commented, 1957 was a great year for cars!

Awesome Lou《☆》All bumpers should be plumbed for exhaust imho ☻
Hi BDOG JR, Glad you enjoy this car, and that's a good idea. Lou
Shame about the blowby and the sticking lifter. I'd expect more from a "concours" restoration. I had a 57 Caddy years ago and it was quiet as a church mouse.
Engine definitely needs work. Outside of that, she is gorgeous.
Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. We'll have to take a look into that. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
