Everything's Alright - Laura Shigihara (cover) - David Allred

This morning I was involved in a terrible car accident on highway 101 at the Oregon coast. My car is completely destroyed but luckily I am pretty physically okay. I was on my way to work at 8:30am; I noticed there was some ice on the road but I didn't know exactly how bad the road conditions were. The road I was driving on made a relatively sharp turn, leaving me with no time to anticipate what I needed to avoid and that was tons of other cars sliding and crashing all over the place at once. Some of the cars were parked on and off the road while others were sliding and colliding. I was immediately caught in the middle of it without any opportunity to move out of the way. I tried to slam and pump my breaks but the roads did not allow any cars to use their brakes and as a result, I collided with two cars full force. Luckily nobody was hurt from the collisions that I was involved in and I was extremely lucky that I didn't slide off the righthand side of the road because there was a steep cliff on that side and that easily would have been the end of me. Some police stopped by to block the roads with their cars and told us that "there are far too many accidents in the area for any tow truck drivers or ambulance drivers to come through and help anyone today unless your life is in danger". So most of us sat there in our cars for up to 4+ hours without any help, in below freezing temperatures. Eventually I was spotted gathering a few things out of my car and into my backpack to start my 7 or 8 mile walk back to my house from where the collisions happened. Two men in a hummer slowly pull up and ask if I would like a ride home and they very generously took me back to my place. By that point I was completely shivering and could hardly speak or think straight (even kinda to this minute). I hope that anyone reading this might use this story as a reminder to be suuuuper cautious if you live in an area that gets this cold. I actually did nothing wrong whatsoever! I wasn't speeding or breaking any traffic laws and now I am paying the price big time. I'm Paying the price for something that was completely out of my control. Today I was reminded by some very generous friends that were communicating/comforting me over the phone through this incident saying they are happy that I’m alive - and yes, I could have easily drove off a tall cliff into freezing water, but that didn't happen. I am alive, somehow.
Also, I've recently been listening to this song by Laura Shigihara called "Everything's Alright" from "To the Moon" and even though I currently feel like nothing is alright my world, I thought I would just pretend for a minute and play this song.
