      @@chris1978nl who knows, it could be a number of reasons. Most airlines will do everything they can avoid diverting to another airport because it costs them thousands more. In some cases it even causes fatal accidents like FlyDubai 981, where they should have diverted but didn't due to the captain's stubbornness.

      I'm a private jet pilot, and apparently the pilot had already been compensating for the tailwind from right to left and at the moment of landing he suddenly encountered a descending wind causing the most aggressive touch on the runway, they probably had to check the shock absorbers and conditions of the tires after landing.

    OMG! I could believe what i just saw. Turkish third time unlucky it seems. That has to be the roughest landing i've seen at BHX. The pilot did the right thing by aligning the plane diagonal to the crosswind, but the plane was still rocking and unstable due to the strong crosswinds. The landing must have shook the passengers up somewhat. Despite all the difficulties, the pilot got the plane down eventually. You have to take your hat off to the pilots.

    Huge risk of scraping the engine cowling, might have been over the limit of crosswind the plane is rated for with the gusts, I've never seen this runway before unbelievable, and I' m sure they charge huge fees for using it.

    Once, long ago, airplanes were not allowed to land in such conditions, the airport was closed and planes were directed elsewhere.

      Is it not standard practise that a commercial airliner dump excessive fuel to limit the dangerous explosion situation en route to landing. Obviously In a safe area,height and distance from the airport.3 go around needs a lot of excessive fuel.enlighten me pls???

    I got to see the poor thing try to leave today on the live stream, but missed the landing (you know, time difference and all that). Anyway, that was so scary! Hand it to the pilots who brought her in safely. Thanks, Kev!

      I'm not good at the best of times, but better than I was. Had I have been on this plane, it would have ended flying for good for me. If I survived the heart attack!

    Bashing the nose gear like that very likely resulted in some airframe damage. G sensors will guide maintenance checks...

      Hi David , it ended up diverting to Gatwick after the first 2 attempts , then returned for THAT landing 🤣

      @@AirportAction . Thanks Kev , I seemed to recall it diverted . It seems to me the pilot was determined to get it down “ come what may “. Could have been very nasty , glad it all finished ok .. cheers mate , and thanks again .

    Kicked off the drift too early and had to reapply a bit close to the ground so landed with quite an angle.

    Difficult to tell with the very long shot, but was that more or less a vertical landing (headwind about the same as nominal landing airspeed)?
    (Do you know if there _was_ any damage done?)

    • @salokin1
      @salokin1 29 днів тому +2

      Very long lens ... the landing was around 3km+ from the camera! Without the telephoto, the undulations in the runway don't look so intimidating. With 15/33 runways, Birmingham is set up perpendicular to prevailing westerly / southwesterly winds and therefore not a good place to fly to in strong wind conditions!

  • @johnghilduta3016

    Why doesn't the architect design a runway with the wind direction in mind !I think this is not the first time when the wind blows from that direction!
