Flew with Turkish Airlines last year. I recommend them, they treat you like a human being.
The runway looks like it needs a damn good ironing !
I like that expression… 😀😀😀😀
🤣🤣🤣
@@AirportAction Just as a friendly suggestion... It would be nice to hear reported winds just to know what kind of weather the pilots are struggling with. Cheers.
This design actually helps reduce the G-load on impact, the touchdown zone is on the downsloped section.
These nutcase pilots should have diverted, but "get-there-itis" took hold.. they must really like Bermingham!
Incidentally, lots of people may not be aware that many airlines have made changes to the attire of the captain and first officer. The captain and first officer now wear brown coat and brown pants. I wonder why?
Nice job by Turkish air pilots ❤👍 excellent save on very very gusty wind conditions
Just to say most of these turkish pilots are ex military f15 +f16 flyers very brave
I was the passenger of this flight. Hats off to the pilot who managed to do the landing! We clapped after he landed safely.
I would have said the prayer again
@@kikiryki There was some Asian airline where plane was having major vibrations issue. They were on the ocean and a few hours from landing. The pilot announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please start Praying 🙏"
Like clapping a bus driver after he hits the kerb on the way into the bus stop.
@@typhoon2827🤣
“Safely” is completely incorrect in this case. That was a terrible crosswind landing. You were moments from catastrophe when they set it down
Rough but good. Quite an undulating runway. Gave the illusion the left engine banged into the runway. Good capture
easy to look at, hard to be a passenger on that plane.
That was a rough landing but hats off to the pilots for doing their best. You can tell they really didn't want to divert, even with how bad the crosswinds were.
Maybe the pilots have thought about that but other (nearby) airports would not be a good alternative due to the storm? Who knows may say it... At least a firm and safe landing.
@@chris1978nl who knows, it could be a number of reasons. Most airlines will do everything they can avoid diverting to another airport because it costs them thousands more. In some cases it even causes fatal accidents like FlyDubai 981, where they should have diverted but didn't due to the captain's stubbornness.
I'm a private jet pilot, and apparently the pilot had already been compensating for the tailwind from right to left and at the moment of landing he suddenly encountered a descending wind causing the most aggressive touch on the runway, they probably had to check the shock absorbers and conditions of the tires after landing.
@@cun7usairlines have little say in whether an airplane diverts for weather, wind shear on landing. Completely captains discretion to go to alternate.
Very good landing do to cross winds. Turkish airlines has professional pilots. 👏👏👏
Love Turkish airlines. I also had a very bad weather flight with them but they got us down safely. We all clapped, too!
@@annjamieson6544I don't know how many are left inside right now, but THY pilots were former Turkish F16 pilots.
That was just unbelievable
Shocking but quite scary to witness too Jo 👍
The landing was a little rough, but what got me was that once all the wheels were on the ground it was still being blown sideways as it travelled along the runway to the exit.
The problem is that he hammered the nose gear into the runway that the strut comes through the flight deck floor.
Maybe some more flight hours are needed?😂
A little you joking right a little Geez Louise that was rough
You know, force vectors and the addition of them resulted in a counter force windfacing.
That tail just picks the whole plane up and moves it side ways lol, must be craaaazy strong winds, scary 😅
OMG! I could believe what i just saw. Turkish third time unlucky it seems. That has to be the roughest landing i've seen at BHX. The pilot did the right thing by aligning the plane diagonal to the crosswind, but the plane was still rocking and unstable due to the strong crosswinds. The landing must have shook the passengers up somewhat. Despite all the difficulties, the pilot got the plane down eventually. You have to take your hat off to the pilots.
Have to say, I'm an experienced flyer, but I would not have liked being a passenger on that plane. Great shots.
Better to note down it's chassis number!
I was, after travelling for 24 hours prior! my fiancée was being sick from motion sickness and the lady behind us crying being comforted by a stranger. Worst landing I’ve had.
Looks like the pilot had already decided that this would be the one, no way we're going around again
Yes, the two go arounds were a bit premature, the actual landing should have been a go around as the drift was kicked off too early and had to be reapplied too close to the ground and left on for touchdown.
@@cam5376 if they do wind check with atc and he says above limit numbers for crosswidn they HAVE to go around. If they feel they are unstable anywhere below 1000ft they Have to go around. so you dont know if it was premature or not.
at some point they run out of fuel
Good work Turkish Air Pilots You Got It.
Awesome pilot skills. I've always had respect for pilots. Their skills just astonish me.
Based on what? No fireball?
Gosh that was a scary one. Glad the plane stayed in one piece and well done to the pilots for making it stick.
I was based at BHX as a pilot from 2000-2005. The runway often has a crosswind as it’s aligned NW/SE…(15/33) as opposed to almost every other UK one that are sensibly east , west…and it’s not that long for the bigger jets either
What a landing! Great capture as well!
Glad you enjoyed it Frederick 👍
How difficult it is to shoot a video, maybe harder than landing that plane.
Wow hats off to the pilots. That was pretty terrifying to watch. Great capture. Bet the passengers were so relieved to finally land.
The pilot was brave without a doubt but in what condition are the tires of the plane after such landing ?
Can always rely on the internet for the uneducated or uninformed to come out and praise stupidity 🤣
Someone had a date in Birmingham that day, seriously weren't entertaining the idea of a diversion! Great footage!
TURKİSH AİR LiNE PiLOT THE BEST ON WORLD,,,💪
Great capture Kev. You and your 'stream' fully deserving of all the figures you're getting....great quality with the human touch 👍🤞👌
Thank you so much Harry 👍
Surprised to see him so keen on landing in Birmingham while everyone in his right mind is speeding out of it
I was watching this from my allotment yesterday
Thinking thank God I'm planting potatoes
With my feet firmly on the ground
Got any turnips or radishes?
The ground id known as terra firma - the more firmer the less terror.
Wow that was really hard.
The pilot got too impatient so he got even with the landing gear
We saw it live this morning. Wow.
I had a similar experience landing in Edinburgh on British. UK has some crazy winds.
To be fair, it was still crabbing even after getting all wheels on the ground.
well done, great capture
Well that's one for the books. Great catch!
Remember the oft-quoted saying "if you can walk way from it, it's a good landing. If they can use the aeroplane again, it's a VERY good landing". So, subject to a possible landing-gear chack, this is a very good landing. Well done, captain!
Yes we've heard that BS before. That was a terrible landing.
@@nigelwilliams9307 TROLLS really are very Boring
@@nigelwilliams9307 You are BS
@@orno6621 Grrr..
Pilots are supposed to land a plane in almost all weather conditions without any negative impact to the machine or its passengers. It’s their job. Performing less than that is not nominal performance. I don’t think anyone buys an airline ticket feeling they’ll get lucky if they get out alive 😅
bravo Türk pilot
Wow,these are Professional
Sorrry I dont know about flight but is pist wavy or only camera seeing, why!!
Wow, amazing
Every time I watch this channel always a gust of wind blowing and thinking couldn't they find a better spot for the airport.
as a pilot after 2 attempt, you should divert!
safest course of action!
It was insane, but thanks for the brilliant stream yesterday Kev.
Thank you Jill for your support 👍
Bravo to the pilots ❤
Aerosucre airlines pilots will see this and think “oh I fancy that”
Well done, it was a very professional landing 👏 👍

The Applause would have been deafening 😮
Braaaaaavo ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The fight to stop that plane spinning like a spinning top !
Phenomenal - I felt that from here! Great stream yesterday.
Thank you Andy 👍
Awesome aviation, great skill. Respect.
Well done!
Grandiosee Pilot! 👍🏻💪👏👏
Brum is often subject to strong winds. Had a few dodgy landings there myself.
Most of them are trained ex military jet pilots, good job. Proud of you guys.
This clip is amazing. It's one thing for a plane to sway left to right from competing updrafts and down drafting winds, but to see it rotating around the y-axis (horizontal plane) is a whole other nightmare! I have to ask, if anyone knows, what time of year was this? Is BHX frequently plagued by cross-winds causing rocky landings? Thanks in advance.
Hi LostWithoutHer , this was at the start of April this year 👍
I wonder what the culture is like in that airline about diverting an aircraft. Glad I wasn't onboard. I've only been in that situation once back in the late 80s on an Air Malta flight into Glasgow, although it wasn't strong crosswinds but a pea souper fog in the dark. Pilot announced if we can't land on the third attempt we'll need to divert. Perfect landing but once on the ground may have been difficult to find the gate. 👍👍
Holy ….that was a rough one thank God they were ok. Just couldn’t do the 🦀
Well said Patricia , it was a scary few seconds 👍
Fabulous pilots
👏👏👏👏 tebrikler THY
Would love to hear from some one on this flight
This airport is rather rough.
Saw concorde land there for the last time from the office.
As a general rule in aviation, a third landing attempt should not be made, as at that time the human brain understands that this (the landing) must be carried out in one way or another.
Probably an effect of the angle of the camera, but that runway looks as flat as a non-flat thing!!
I see on the third attempt the pilot had to add a lot of power to deal with almost stalling and trying to be in the zone & get as soft of a landing as possible. Great job & great landing.
OK but, remind me never to fly into that airport. BHX and its crazy crosswinds and storms, YIKES!! 😮
👍🏽❤️🙂
I about peed myself yikes! That runway needs new resurfacing if they get these types of landings! WOW!
🤣
Gosh... One big roller-coaster... Third time lucky 🙏🙏🙏
Craziest landing
That should have been a go around.
Crazy!
On other streams over the past winter when we in the UK get high winds that the NEO's seem to be more prone to gusty situations than the old CEO Airbuses. Guess that bigger engine causes this?
Looked like a huge kite there for a bit.
A landing that exceeded the cross-wind component for that aircraft for sure, but if you are up and you need to get down what else can you do? He kept it crabbed into wind and didn't risk using rudder because it would have been hard to control the secondary effect of roll and the port wing might have dug in. He got it down level but the tyres paid the price. Great job under the circumstances. Commercial pilots are put under constant pressure to fly in these conditions.
What else can you do? Divert.
If the cross wind component was too high for the aircraft and configuration, they wouldn't attempt the landing. Simple as that.
@@richjhart correct
@@richjhart I was assuming there was no alternate to divert to, or the alternate had the same conditions.
@@koll789 it is very rare that there wouldn't be a suitable alternate or even any other airport they could go to, particularly around Heathrow. London alone has 6 airports.
And with runways at different directions you could almost certainly reduce the crosswind component. And Turkish airlines is coming from a fair way, so probably quite a bit of spare fuel.
@@koll789 when you plan your flight you always need at least one alternate where the weather is within limits. And if destination weather is out of limits you need at least 2 options that are within limits. Otherwise the flight would be illegal. And as others say if crosswind was out of limits no attempt would be made. Landing in gusty crosswinds even within limits is challenging.
I imagine the passengers' backsides were putting like a festered toe,,,, and are the 321s fitted with strong air fresheners??
🤣🤣
Ouch, that was hard to watch!
Good morning
I have an idea.
How about FLAT runways such as they have in The US. That would make tricky landings easier.
I was a passenger on this flight , i told the crew i want to leave the plane before 3rd attempt thats why pilot managed to land
Flippin Heck - #merch
Loving the content!!!
As a pilot, this is not that bad considering the crosswinds of the past few days.
What counts as “that bad”?
Hmm I dunno, looked pretty bad to me. Engine nearly hit the floor!
Thank you for posting. My goodness that was shaking but safe landing finally.
great photography
Thank you 👍
that pilot is very skilled and needs a pay upgrade..... Crosswind landings are a challenge that every pilot learns........
Этого "опытного" пилота как минимум нужно перевести во вторые. А максимум вообще лишить лицензии и больше никогда не допускать к перевозке пассажиров.
Aren't they already paid crazy money for supervising mostly automated flights?
Huge risk of scraping the engine cowling, might have been over the limit of crosswind the plane is rated for with the gusts, I've never seen this runway before unbelievable, and I' m sure they charge huge fees for using it.
Never fly to Birmingham
A Heart In The Mouth Moment. 😱.
Once, long ago, airplanes were not allowed to land in such conditions, the airport was closed and planes were directed elsewhere.
Thank God they made it❤but why did they have so much fuel to make 3 attenpts😮😮
Is it not standard practise that a commercial airliner dump excessive fuel to limit the dangerous explosion situation en route to landing. Obviously In a safe area, height and distance from the airport.3 go around needs a lot of excessive fuel.enlighten me pls???
Pilots 🧑✈️ tried their best ✈️
The vast majority are former retired fighter pilots.
I got to see the poor thing try to leave today on the live stream, but missed the landing (you know, time difference and all that). Anyway, that was so scary! Hand it to the pilots who brought her in safely. Thanks, Kev!
Thanks Fred , really appreciate your support 👍
wow glad I wasn't on that flight
I'm not good at the best of times, but better than I was. Had I have been on this plane, it would have ended flying for good for me. If I survived the heart attack!
Oh my goodness! Now I know why they call landing a “controlled crash”! Took my breath away.
Brilliant video
Thank you Kev 👍
Bashing the nose gear like that very likely resulted in some airframe damage. G sensors will guide maintenance checks...
That’s got to have been a hairy moment!!
Blimey indeed Kev 😀😀. Is this the one that diverted to LHR earlier in the day and repositioned back to BHX ?.
Hi David , it ended up diverting to Gatwick after the first 2 attempts , then returned for THAT landing 🤣
@@AirportAction . Thanks Kev , I seemed to recall it diverted . It seems to me the pilot was determined to get it down “ come what may “. Could have been very nasty , glad it all finished ok .. cheers mate , and thanks again .
Kicked off the drift too early and had to reapply a bit close to the ground so landed with quite an angle.
Imagine the damage to the landing gears
Captain must be an ex Turkish Air Force F4 Phantom pilot.
Difficult to tell with the very long shot, but was that more or less a vertical landing (headwind about the same as nominal landing airspeed)?
(Do you know if there _was_ any damage done?)
Very long lens ... the landing was around 3km+ from the camera! Without the telephoto, the undulations in the runway don't look so intimidating. With 15/33 runways, Birmingham is set up perpendicular to prevailing westerly / southwesterly winds and therefore not a good place to fly to in strong wind conditions!
Why doesn't the architect design a runway with the wind direction in mind !I think this is not the first time when the wind blows from that direction!
Kathleen was doing a real number on the Turkish planes today!! Wonder how much fuel was left on board! Didn't it divert also 😮
You're right there Volnation , Kathleen was really kicking up the wind , and yes this Turkish did divert to Gatwick , before returning for the 3rd attempt 3 hours later 👍
Wonder if the passengers spilt their drinks ... and a few other things lol
