Formula 1 returns to Florida for the first time, in a long time, in 2022. The Miami Grand Prix will be hosted around the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins.
Thing is, people were pretty critical on Twitter (shock) when this news dropped. Mainly, critical of the track design itself. So I thought, could I do better? Could YOU do better? Let's see shall we...

Legend, cheers man, massively appreciated. 🙏🏼
I’d love to know also where you propose DRS detection zones as well. That can make a big difference in the circuit viability.
Compromising the entrance to the main straight is a really good move. As you said, that kink could provoke overtaking.
Hi mate! I was wondering if you can make a vid rating drivers in 2021?
Can you redesign the Indianapolis Grand Prix circuit? I have a feeling they're going to be going back soon and it needs to be reworked
I like Layout of the track on paper there are some interest in corners for overtakes but generally the track is flat and quite sterile I do hope this is not the final mock up of the track otherwise it’ll be another Monaco I’ll follow the leader for 50 laps
Here in South Florida, we call elevation changes 'bridges'.
Facts
Yeah, Florida IS the second flattest state in the Union
@@TheOz91 * it's actually *the* flattest
@@ohthreemusic Awesome, I'm not far off.
Well we do have hills, they just used to be garbage dumps.
As your resident Floridian, I can confirm there will be alligators on the track
Does that mean there will be at least a foot of elevation change?
Thank you Max, I thought as much
Will Florida man be on it as well?
If it's Miami there will probably be iguanas, too.
Of all the places we decide to send Formula 1, we send it to the flattest state in the country, make it look like what we're known for, football and prisons, and of course sponsored by oil companies and huge corporate conglomerates. Murica.
Wish the Miami race would be a night race around vice beach cause that would be one hell of a vibe

@@petouser Well it depends in the time of year. We could get night races at 9pm UTC but that's season dependant.

Although I am still offended(jk xD) Keep up the good work Tommo
qualifies as a rollercoaster
Portimao doesn't get the love it deserves, one of the best tracks, and both races were decent
@@mrbungle3310
For me, it doesn’t deserve the love it gets. It is good for driving a car but as for overtakes, you can overtake only at turns 1 and 5 and the huge straight makes its overtake a bit too easy. Within, half a second, get DRS, you have a successful overtake and are over half a second ahead.
Name me a circuit where current cars can follow and overtake (without big mistakes from the other driver) without DRS. Your argument is invalid. If anything it's "easy" to overtake in Portimão because the corners offer more than one line for the cars following to suffer less from dirty air. Which is why, until Bottas had his sensor issue, the top 3 were within 5 seconds of each other for all of the race.
Tommo: We’ve had a lizard on the track before. So let’s add a Bigger Lizard

Regarding elevation changes. Maybe you know the story of Slovakiaring. The designers thought that the tracks concept was kinda bland, so they created an elevation change by hand to make it more interesting. Great way of thinking, in my opinion
I think they will thank you for creating uneven roads because it would definitely make their day to work a lot more interesting by creating overtaking opportunities
Imagine having a grand prix in MIAMI only for it to be in a car park .

Baku, the jury is still out on. Neat visuals and wild architecture.. but some races good...some boring
@@Yuggoth87 Baku has produced pretty good races in its short historu
It should definitely be a night race! Just imagine if they placed more palm trees around the circuit, maybe adding breaks in the walls/fences to give nice views of unique architecture and foliage, then included neon lighting to give a vibey glow to the whole thing. I think they just need to play up the location they're in and embrace the bling aspect of Miami, like they do with the ultra-luxurious character of Monaco. If the track layout itself isn't amazing, then at least the experience for both drivers and fans can be best remembered by the glowing lights, beach-like scenery, and diverse culture that Miami has to offer.

Imagine if they were able to get the start/finish straight to go through the middle of the stadium :P
I live about 15 minutes from Hard Rock Stadium. Extremely excited that we're getting a GP in my backyard. That being said, "Miami" as you're probably imagining it is another 30 minutes south of the race track. It's technically in Miami Gardens, a suburb halfway between Fort Lauderdale to the north and Miami to the south. I hope they have big plans for some sort of elaborate architectural feature, because as it stands there's barely anything to see in the immediate vicinity besides the stadium itself.
They should've made the track g0 through the stadium. Yes it would be difficult, yes it might not work, but imagine how awesome it would be. Also they could sell out the stadium seats and make loads of money back.
I’d love to know also where you propose DRS detection zones as well. That can make a big difference in the circuit viability.
Compromising the entrance to the main straight is a really good move. As you said, that kink could provoke overtaking.
I personally like the 2nd redesign the most, the suzuka like eses would make for some challenges, and there are some long straights that go to hairpins that would make for some good overtaking places
I love that you showed peoples ideas for the track. Nice video. First of yours I've seen, and it won't be the last.

If you want elevation changes, weird corners, and almost guaranteed rain just have a street race in Seattle.
It will be an obstacle course as well with all the riots.
Still a London street race would be incredible the amount of landmarks in such a small area would be immense !
wasnt there a formula e race thru London?
Yes there was through battersea but imagine the starting grid being down the mall towards Buckingham palace
I love F1 UA-camrs. They're either educational or just laid back and entertaining.
I remember when the f1 circus went to Baku in 2016 and it was a boring race but the following year it was incredible. Hopefully Miami can have a good debut race
I never appreciated how dumb my username was until you read it out haha. Great vid as always
the kink on the straight reminds me of the airport circuits in need for speed underground 2
Never made it over to Miami, spent a little time in Destin. Depending on time of day and season the pop up 2 minute thunderstorms could make it interesting...
Hey Tommo, your vids are sick and I've been watching for quite a while, and to watch them just get better and better is so amazing! I wondered if you would maybe do a series where you designed race posters like your livery series, except it may be a bit easier for you? Just an idea, I'd be curious to see your personal touches and twists on those posters!
This isn’t terrible.. if it was an FE track...
The track looks nice for overtaking , just needs a little bit of scenery and elevation
The only way to add elevation, is to move the race out of Florida to a bumpy state like Kansas
@@The.Fake.Adam.Lulich maybe they can add artificial elevation
@@lmao7439 you can’t add artificial elevation to public roads
I like a lot of the changes, especially early on in the lap. But I think it's important to mention turns 14-16 can't really be changed because the track carefully circumnavigates a highway interchange, which also would affect putting a chicane on the straight. That chicane would need to be much closer to the middle of the straight because of a ramp that exists.
I think we really have to see and have a gp on the track before we have any strong opinions
I would honestly love a race at Potrero de Los Funes in Argentina (even though it’s a grade 2 circuit)
It literally looks and feels like a track from gran turismo since the circuit goes around a lake in the middle of the mountains

As a former U Miami student who had to hop on a bus and ride 30-45 minutes to our football games at Hard Rock, my biggest disappointment is that you’re far removed from the “Miami” everyone expects.
This would have been way cooler in Miami Beach or Downtown Miami
If you actually look at the pictures online of what the renders of the track and the seating will look like it’s going to be a really cool track. They have open areas like Canada and a bunch of palm trees
@Tommo Your kink in the long as straight might become the "Singapore Sling" of Miami.
If there are not enough run-off area around the kink, it might cause many retirements/solo crashes
I'm game for more challenge, as long as they can keep it safe.
Nice video!
F1 needs to see this for feedback
What do you think about Mcl special off livery?
The original comment was by Jonathan Harris
Respect.
This track represents Florida perfectly.
Straight roads
Flat
Featureless
Any redesign is gonna really struggle to change the fact that the location sucks. That's what needs changing the most
The chicane you’ve put in on the back straight makes me think of kart track ones / castle Combe chicanes which are always good
The actual layout is pretty good. The scenery is obviously gonna be more appealing in real life. It's just that the community will complain about anything be it Sprint Qualifying, racing in Jeddah or the Miami Street Circuit.
Yeah. And I might get to go to my first GP.
People always complain about new tracks, it's not always about the 80s and 90s, there is always a future and we all gotta stick to it whether we like it or not, atleast there will be layout changes to make the races exciting
My initial thoughts on the track, ‘GP of Meh-ami’.
The Miami GP looks interesting and has so much potential imo. I'm sure that the atmosphere will be amazing, don't know if the race will be fun to watch, but I'm sure that the whole weekend is gonna be a vibe to watch and to attend live for those who will have the opportunity to do so. Miami is an iconic city, I'm sure they won't let us down
We haven't even seen the gp and your already changing it, what a confidence! 🤣
Here’s how you fix the Miami gp: move it to Sebring
Or Daytona.
Yeah, it's crap
Rockin' that One+ Nord
I honestly can't wait for Miami F1. Been waiting for years
Its weird because look at cota. From turn 1 there's all those esses and their not good for overtaking but we always have sweet races there
Wow, I actually made it into the video!!! 😂
I like your idea of a kink/chicane early on down the back straight, and with a simplified chicane bit by T14 or whatever it is now, someone could chuck it down the inside of the kink, and then they could fight again down the rest of the straight.
I like Tyler's with your little "kink" on the long straight to add some challenge as you were saying
For more elevation changes put down some speed bumps
So excited for Miami !!
Tommo your Redesign Definitly works bru
"I'd love to go to the Miami race, but unfortunately it's 4000 miles away from me in London. But thanks to today's sponsor, Surfshark, I can afford to fly to Miami to watch it in person".
Genuinely thought that was how the sponsor speech was going to go at first lol.
Nice video Tommo
F1: *happens*
Tommo: "So I did a redesign..."
Every time you praise Canada my heart sings
on the chicane that goes under the highway you could fly into the catch fence
Tommo! Rush is also on Aussie Netflix. Just thought I’d let you know. Nice video mate!!!👍👍
I like yours the most but I would widen turn 9 and 10 so its like turn 3 of Sochi and the long right hand corner at start of Spain. There would maybe be some exiting overtakes.
ADN_YT dude. He has the perfect layout.
1 to 3: Untouched, very good flow and character.
4: Right what I wanted, a bit of a challenging turn to give it a little bit of a chance for the ones who dare.
5 to 7: Amazing flow, although I could close up a little bit more the apex of 7 so there's a small switchback chance.
11 to 16: Spot on, what a bang on sequence.
Backstrech: Give it a small flick like Tommo does, but a bit bigger so it flows and it doesn't feel artificial while being hard to get right due to the acceleration zone afterwards.
17 to 19: Untouched.
I think it's important to factor in the new cars, and how that will impact the racing.
Love the graphics
Yo definitely taking you up on the SurfShark deal, that’s a real good bargain!
They should redesign/rework the Port Imperial Circuit in NJ. It has all the potential of being a banger. As Vettel said, it reminds him of SPA and thats a great compliment for a circuit.
An alligator wandering into a garage mid race would be a good laugh
As a Floridian….I can confirm there is there is more elevation change in just eau rouge than there is in the entire state of Florida. I think this will be a pretty race, Miami in general but also the venue selected gives a great opportunity for another night race.
I think if they make it a night race that would be awesome because then they can have all the lights and light up the stadium by using things like a glowing Miami Dolphin logo and some other awesome stuff
Race Miami at night and have the stadium and some level of the track lit up with Miami neon, especially with those 2022 redesigned cars.
I love it because I get to go to it which will be my 1st ever f1 race
They should just treat it like the old nascar races and have it run through South Beach and up Ocean Drive, like in Daytona
Video idea: ranking all f1 teams team kit
I actually like your redesign, pretty cool.
Didnt watch the vid yet but i know its gonna be great
Tommo: Car parks are notoriously flat
Me: But multi-storey car parks 🤔... (BBC F1 intro plays in the background)
Andrew's was really nice. Reminds me of Long Beach.
I wish they could have a long straight that goes right by South beach and you could get an aerial view and see the cars go by with waves in view
The stadium is located in Miami Gardens near where I live. With the exception of 2 apartment buildings and the Calder Casino and sports hotel next to it, you won't be getting much in aerial shots since the area isn't very... great. Also won't get shots of the city. The area around it is mostly small residential home, strip malls, a sonics and some gas stations.
Miami is a perfect chance (purely aesthetically) to add another night race, because they could add a load of neon lights in the area, plus the lights from the outside of the stadium. If they’re not gonna change the layout then they can definitely make it one of the nicest settings on the calendar.
I think a “bus stop” kink on the straight ala Daytona would work
