Hey Man! Love the content! You should check the 22 wrx for this issue as well since they share the same motor I’ve been a little worried mine will end up with similar issues!

All of you didn’t let the rtv detonate the engine, so therefore not enough to make it a recall.

You should drop the pan to check the pickup. Most rtv is from cam carrier, not the oil pan.

Fyi only the US owners manual says 0w-20 for federal emissions reasons. The Japanese owners manual and the engineers where this engine is made recommend 5w-30

Oh that's interesting, i've been wondering why so many new cars are all the sudden jumping to 0w-20

Actually it doesn't. The Japanese GR86 manual recommends 0w20, but says 5w30 can be used.
      Translated:
      "Recommended:
Toyota Genuine Motor Oil SP 0W-20
      ― API SP/RC, ILSAC GF-6A, SAE 0W-20
      Suitable:
Toyota Genuine Motor Oil SP 5W-30
      ― API SP/RC, ILSAC GF-6A, SAE 5W-30
Use oil that meets API standard SP/RC or ILSAC standards. 0W-20 can demonstrate excellent fuel efficiency performance. If 0W-20 is difficult to obtain, 5W-30 can also be used. In addition, cans of ILSAC standard compliant oil have the ILSAC CERTIFICATION mark."
The Japanese BRZ manual doesn't recommend any weight, rather, it just shows a list of weights that can be used: 0w20, 0w30, 5w30

@@pirihern9329i was gonna say I think between the two I think all owners of the 86/brz models should go with 5w-30 to be much safer!

It's to boost the mpg numbers. A thinner oil provides less resistance which gives the car a wee bump in efficiency.

im just wondering what's the recommended amount of oil for Toyota 86 GT 2013/2014

Dude, pull the power steering 'EPS' fuse and bye bye overboosted steering

You should def take the oil pan off (be careful it’s aluminum!). Razor blade the old sealant off, reapply sealant and check tube. I believe Subaru/Toyota did this because the pan where it attaches to the engine is very thin and also has a step. So they gobbed this in to make sure it’s sealed but will end up biting them in the butt.

Would you change the RTV for a hand cut gasket?

If BRZs and GR86s were "blowing up" because of the whole RTV situation, there would have been a recall AT LEAST by last year. Toyota and Subaru are the same company worth billions, they aren't going to let something like this destroy a entire line of cars. Now that's not to say there have not been incidents, but my point is, there have been countless vods on youtube regarding this, and if this were a actual serious situation, they would HAVE to do something about it, contact all dealerships, let all owners know the car has to be brought in for a oil pan drop. I just don't know how else to explain this, it's just how it is. There are alot of solo-mechanics who use this to further their business, but there are some that are completely legit mechanics and want to help people, but you have to draw the line somewhere and ease people's minds that just because they own one of the two vehicles, they don't need to panic. Enjoy your ride, if something happens and you are under warranty, well, there you go.
From what i have studied from alot of vods, people who have dealt with this "issue", are people who are track racers, they are burning their engines so hard that the engine was not made to keep up with the heat and brutal racing conditions. I cannot say for certain that's a fact, but it's just something to keep in mind. Of course there might be daily drivers who just go from point A to B, and maybe something happens regarding the RTV, we will never know because we are not in their shoes, but again, if this were a situation that were so dire that all of us who own one of the two vehicles had some sorta issue, Toyota / Subaru would do a recall.

This is a major problem with Subaru. Looks like they are going to try and ignore it like they did with the head gasket fiasco they had rather than fix it

That's a lot of RTV but would have loved to see how much RTV has collected in the pickup.

Appreciate the video. But, this was as about as useful as tits on a bull with regard to the RTV issue. You showed a small bead of RTV inside the pan. You really should have dropped the pan and inspected it properly like most of the YT influencer shops have done.

That's why i asked at the end if you'd like to see me drop the pan.. seems like there's interest so i'll get moving on it ;)

Before you drop the oil pan... do that exact same process using your borescope on 2 or 3 other random brand vehicles. It would be good to understand the lay of the land with regards to RTV gasket use or overuse. For all we know all vehicles have some kind of RTV bead. And your borescope process is far easier than dropping an oil pan, yet the data you collect by checking out other makes and models is priceless and 1000% relevant.
