Recreating The Starbucks Oleato: Is Olive Oil In Coffee Necessary?

- So the Starbucks Oleato is a thing… and it’s certainly an experience.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, I think its important to provide some info about Starbucks as a company and how they’ve positioned themselves:

As a Starbucks employee, you should have used the most burnt beans you could find to really get the FULL effect
Awesome comment , it’s funny a guy like me with a $20 mr coffee espresso machine can make a better latte at home than a multi billion dollar company. Shoot I can even use their beans and make better coffee than they ever serve. Not sure what their problem is but in store Starbucks only for emergency use.
it wouldn't matter
@@hallcody3 Also a Starbucks barista here. The reason the beans have so much more potential than their actual drinks in-store is honestly because essentially everything is set to overbrew. For drip coffee, the urns are calibrated to keep running for easily a full minute longer than you really need to, lettting all that bitter, burnt shit get into the coffee. Tbh, I quite like the espresso in stores, but even that is pretty sharp, probably because the shots are on the longer side relative to how much coffee is used.
@@thunderlightcreations568 what’s the rationale behind that? Do they think they’re getting more bang for their buck by over extracting the coffee? I’m just not sure what they think the advantage is in doing that.
@@pjschmid2251 Some of it is that I assume, but mostly I think it's just because overbrewed coffee from bold dark roasts is the traditional American taste. The average American, who drinks Folgers coffee or whatever in the morning and doesn't really explore the variety coffee has to offer, thinks coffee is supposed to taste like one specific thing -- that bitter, burnt flavor. It's just Starbucks' way of selling to the lowest common denominator.
hey I work at one of the roasteries as a barista and the key to getting the oleato iced cortado to incorporate is to add all the ingredients into a metal cocktail shaker with 4 or 5 cubes of ice and then shake/ pour into the glass. the olive oil shouldn't be on top. also the roasteries use much lighter roasts of coffee than ur standard Starbucks experience. fruiter sweeter coffees tend to work better with the oleato drinks ive found
Good to know, I’ll give it a go! I was certainly curious because I couldn’t find any information on the build online and most images showed some olive oil separation. The shaker + ice should help a good bit from what I did initially though.
I shake an approximation of this cortado, after watching J Hoffman go to Italy to sample. Maybe I got the method wrong, but I thought he said it was shaken. I really enjoy it.
I was thinking that or a blender. Good call.
It's when a hipster saw a bulletproof coffee and decided to use olive oil instead to be more "fancy"
I'm really glad I have a local shop so I don't have to support Starbucks
I have so so much respect for Starbucks baristas but the company has repeatedly demonstrated behaviors on multiple fronts that are pretty horrific
Heyyyy! Local coffee for the win :3
I’m more likely to go to peets or Philz or a local place
As my local small shop barista once said: we baristas thank Starbucks for changing the mindset of the public that $4-6 for a coffee is normal. Otherwise, no thanks.
My only need for a Starbucks is when I’m on a long drive and just need the caffeine. Even then, I’ll opt for a local place over Starbucks if I can. But sometimes, especially in the middle of nowhere, it’s either Starbucks or McDonald’s coffee.
This was recently introduced at the Starbucks I work at, and I learned that since it is an oil, it needs to be agitated in order for it to go well with the drink by blending, steaming, or shaking. I find that toffee nut and white mocha compliment the Oleato fairly well, but it is made to be more of a savory drink.
My boyfriend works at Starbucks (best job he could get in our area, sadly) and they just started rolling out their Oleato drinks in his store. They tasted them before they were released there and he and all his coworkers agreed that it tasted awful. The olive oil they use is apparently very mid-tier so it mostly just tasted stale and unpleasant. He made his own version with some of the cinnamon dolce syrup and his coworkers actually really liked it that way!
And even if the olive oil is of good quality the strong olive flavor clashes with the coffee. But it might work as a laxative.
The same olive oil brand is used by Olive Garden. It made me raise an eyebrow for sure.
They probably soared his feelings
@@nalublackwater9729 Olive oil as a laxative is 2x funnier in an Oleato because caffeine also promotes bowel movement, so someone out there with sensitive bowels is projectile shitting after a nice cuppa.
@@nalublackwater9729 I can see it being good if both of coffee and olive oil are really high quality. But not from any American chain establishment. I know a lot of things go really well with coffee that seem like they wouldn’t be, like eggs or lavender.
Hey Morgan! Starbucks employee here who just launched the Oleato in their city. The hot latte you made was the exact way we do ours, however its not a tablespoon of Partanna, its a teaspoon in all drinks. The cortado isn't apart of our menu here, instead we got the shaken espresso. Here's the recipe: get your double shot of espresso, add ice, add about 3 ounces of toffee nut syrup, and a teaspoon of olive oil and shake. Once you have that all shaken up, add some oatmilk and drink. The last item we got was the "Golden Foam", which is just our vanilla cold foam and 2 teaspoons of oil. The recipe for vanilla cold foam is just a 3:2:1 ratio of heavy/double cream, milk and vanilla syrup. In my store the foam was the favorite, as it has a mild sweet and rich flavor due to the olive oil and the vanilla. We were trained to incorporate the oil in drinks only by shaking the drink, blending the drink, or steaming the drink mainly because you don' t want the oil sitting on top. As you said, it leads to a really unpleasant experience. Overall, the ones from my store are decent. I wasn't a huge fan of the latte mainly because there's no flavor profile to balance out the partanna, so that alongside the darker, almost burnt espresso taste isn't good. The shaken espresso was good, and as I've stated the foam was the standout favorite in my store. 7.8/10 overall
and your fireddddd for releasing company info
All oleato beverages just get the one pump of olive specifically, including the golden foam
Coffee and olive oil are both great at making you poop! If you’re constipated, the “Oleato” is for you. If you have a sensitive stomach, or are already having the runs… I’d definitely skip it.
Your content is my UA-cam “comfort food”. Keep up the great work!
Glad to have you here 🖤
I watched Modern MBA’s audacious “Why Starbucks Must Crush Unions” and the main takeaway was if the union gets what they want Starbucks’s profit margin will go from like 15% to 10%. I think it is great that Starbucks does a little more than lip service to sustainability and thinking outside the MBAA playbook of costcutting and vertical integration to maximize profit, but they still need held to a higher standard as an employer. And all employers. Know your rights and buy local coffee friends.
That channel sounds horrible. So sad there are people out there with that mindset in 2023 and that capitalism enables them to be successful
employers shouldnt even exist, why must we be hostage to the profit margins of a coven of greedy fucks who don't do anything to contribute with work?
here's to more family and local businesses and fewer CEOs
@@WingsTM pays to be evil and support evil people, i guess :/
@@WingsTM It was a fine video, the title is just clickbait to get reactions like yours and thus more views.
@@zzzyyyxxx i thought it was fine and nuanced in the middle but to come down on the side of a multibillion dollar corporation who made bad decisions selling of parts of its revenue streams saying it must crush union efforts because they’ll make less billions is shameful. Not discrediting Starby’s efforts to give its employees a modicum of respect with benefits and pay but $15/hr is not enough to survive in most of America. Come on dude.
My local Starbucks was just recently the first one in Canada to unionize and honestly the community is so supportive of them! We kinda just dont trust Starbucks to close the store as soon as they can.
Heck yeah, hopefully we'll get more unionized locations up here in Canada... And hopefully Starbucks doesn't just close the unionized locations as a 'cost cutting' operation which in sure is what they'll call it when in reality they are just trying to prevent unions
I think you might be mistaken. The first store in Canada to unionize was in Victoria, BC and that was in 2020. Since then Starbucks locations all over Canada have joined them in unionization. I think you might be referring to the Starbucks in Waterloo which is the first location in Ontario to unionize.
@munchems ah ok, the local stuff was saying first I just assumed Canada and not Ontario
i worked at Starbucks for 3 years and gave it everything i got and basically got mistreated and pushed out by my management and ostracized for pointing it out to upper management so im still incredibly bitter because it was a job i really did well and liked (if only conditions were better)
Same thing essentially happened to me
Starbucks was my first job ever, and I was excited to start and the same situation happened to me as well.
a diuretic plus another diuretic 😍 the toilet doesn't know what's coming after a oleatooO
It really is quite a combination in that regard
This comment made me laugh so hard
As a Starbs barista I do check with people and advise against the oleato drinks if their digestion is fast.
Exactly what I was thinking 😂 I told my friend this probably gives some people the runs 🤣
Morgan, in the US is easier to find panela in mexican stores, they call it piloncillo. They're the same thing but in different shape.
the version available at reserve stores uses a much better bean and roast than that which was rolled out to the cafes. which is a shame as it does the drink a disservice.
If I may ask what beans do you use at reserve stores?
I don’t actually every drink coffee, but I really love your channel. I find your knowledge and passion very compelling. It’s always peaceful to listen and watch your content, long form and short. Thank you.
Same! The algorithm recommended a video and even though I don’t drink coffee it was like huh this is soothing to listen to.
I respect that you took advantage of the current trends and your platform to spread the message about the union. Thank you.
my starbs recently got our shipment of olive oil... it's fun to experiment with, but it's been very troublesome to use. it doesn't emulsify into the iced drinks at all, and it separates out within minutes of being shaken into a drink or blended into cold foam. the oil is fine (and i've enjoyed playing with it in other things, like london fog tea lattes), but its utilization was poorly thought out in the actual recipes, especially considering how many customers do mobile orders and pick up their drinks 10+ minutes after ordering. imo they really should've had us combining it with some sort of emulsifier or stabilizer for the iced drinks.
I’m so uncomfortable with how much illegal practices Starbucks is getting away with
If only we lived in a perfect utopia like Europe where every company gets rightfully punished and unions don't exist because the law is the union there. Sadly I can't move there as I am too dark skinned for their kind
@@ExtraThiccc You're freaking me the fuck out bro
@@aydendonall836 why?
@@BBee13 How is it gibberish?
@@ExtraThiccc unions do exist and mandatory by law if there are more than 100 employees (they keep the company in check before the state does and are the ones to negociate contracts and solve grievances and if HR calls someone in, they have to have a union rep alongside the employee) and it's not quite an unreachable utopia, more like we live better than in USA and rich Asian Countries.
Places from Western Europe are quite good with foreigners. You may bump into racists from time to time as they do indeed exist, but are not as vocal and dangerous as the peoples from USA and Asia. At least in Romania people are mostly curious and may be wary at first, but then are welcoming and inclusive to anyone when the foreigner earn their trust.
I got to try the Oleato at one of their Seattle locations, and it was an interesting experience. Not one I would try again, but it wasn't as awful as I was anticipating. A fun one-and-done.
I like trying the signature drinks every now and then, but I'd much rather give my support and patronage to my other local coffee shops instead of Starbucks.
Great video as always Morgan!
I think as long as you are using a top quality olive oil that has a sweet citrusy or other fruity flavor profiles that is not the run of the mill every day cooking olive oil. I can get behind using olive oil in steam oat milk to give it more body and the same fat content as if you were using whole milk. If you were to make your own oat milk that was infused with lemon, orange, blood orange, grapefruit oil I think that would be better though.
This is why I'm experimenting with oil not only because I want to add the olive flavor. My mom and a couple friends are lactose intolerant and I was sick and my body being stressed and probably the antibiotics made me go lactose intolerant for a bit last year. It was terribly unpleasant and I gravitated toward oatmilk... I don't want to have to stock a bunch of different milks for different uses so I'm trying to modify my choice oatmeal and in the future plan on probably trying to make it myself as I'm shopping Vitamix right now and it would be hella cheaper to do it myself... I just watched the video and they mentioned that coconut milk seemed to make the proper texture for latte art at least as well if not better than Olive Oil without leaving any of the olive oil flavor so I'm going to try that too
I have significant doubts about homemade oat milk emulsifying with olive oil. The reason why people use barista oat milk is because of all the gums and emulsifiers added, which you could add yourself if you have them on hand, of course.
@@nackedgrils9302 I'm trying to reduce that again, mom's health isn't for Winstar here. A lot of the gums can be irritating to the intestines and my mom had cancer so they took a large portion. I'm just trying to avoid them myself all keeping it easy. Not exactly avoiding I guess but minimizing my intake and trying some experiments
Thank you so so much for speaking on our unions. I love your content and appreciate that resource so much. SBWU Union strong!
Heyyy
😍😍😍😍😍 hi!!!
I think Oil and oat milk kinda makes sense because it adds some fats that are naturally present in whole milk. Maybe that's what lends to the silky sort of rounded mouthfeel to the oleato coffee latte that's similar to a latte with whole milk, but you have to be careful not to add too much oil. That's my theory.
Barista oat milk already has added fat to match the fat percentage in whole milk I believe
All the commercial oat milks have an oil component iirc. I think oatly use rapeseed oil, others use sunflower or other vegetable oils
And the only difference in ingredients between oatly blue and oatly grey (barista) is the addition of an acidity regulator (dipotassium phosphate
Ima be honest I found your channel by casuality, on shorts, and I, absolutly loved the vibe you spread. Your music taste is also, amazing. I might not drink coffee, but I find your vids really intresting and educational. I will try my best to stay around because so far I enjoy the vibe and the format of the video. You seem like a really sweet person and you are making awesome work here, at the point that everyone, can enjoy your content, even if they dont know about the topic. :)
I had to click because i dont think i have ever seen a human that looks more like a barista. I believe every word out of your mouth.
thank you for bringing attention to the attrocities sbux is doing with union busting. We want to unionize at our store but are worried about it closing down due to it like a bunch of the NY stores that unionized... I love being a barista i love making drinks, but the shit sbux does sometimes just.... doesn't make me want to work anymore.
I'm curious how this really differs from the whole "Bulletproof" coffee trend that used either MCT Oil or (Shamrock) Butter
not a whole lot, besides replacing the coconut milk with oat milk. tbh it kinda sounds better to steam/froth milk and butter together for a latte...hmmm...
Bulletproof was more of a health fad as I remember. This is more of a taste thing
My first thought was Bulletproof, but now I'm thinking more Breve, if you do a good job of incorporating the fat into the milk
Bulletproof uses both MCT oil and grass-fed butter. It is a health thing, yes, but it's delicious! Curious to try making an oleato, now.
@@nackedgrils9302 that was kinda my point, this is basically just a variation of [fat] + coffee
This is so well done, in a variety of ways. You answered all my questions about these strange drinks that I likely won't have a chance to try, and you didn't shy away from all the things that currently surround Starbucks. Bravo!
I keep forgetting how you sound when you speak because I'm so used to your like silent coffee shorts, and its always a nice surprise when Im reminded haha
I appreciate the mention of the difference between barista vs non oat milk! I’ve been struggling to get nice foam, and getting the barista specific oat milk honestly did not even occur to me. It seems obvious now!
always lovely to watch Morgan
Starbs barista here, typically our specialty/promotional alternative milk beverages are paired with blonde espresso, not a dark roast. Especially if it’s oat milk. Was waiting for you to make this video cuz I was curious about this one and we didn’t get it in my area 😊 also you’re amazing, been following for awhile and then found out you were also from Oregon?? 🤩💚
Appreciate you bringing up the issues with the company, it’s important people know what’s happening and the more news and social media coverage helps to do just that.
really like this channel, its very approachable and informative as well as researched
I really respect and appreciate you talking about the actions of the company at the beginning. It's great to bring attention to it.
Yeah I played around with the ideas from their drinks. I kind of settled on a Shaken drink to incorporate everything better.
6 Oz French Press coffee (locally roasted Burundi light roast in my case)
.25 Oz EVOO
.5 Oz 2:1 demerara syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Dry shake to incorporate, be careful cause the shaker will get hot, then add ice and shake, then strain
I went with French press because I wanted body and didn't feel like using my manual espresso machine at the time. The brew method is probably less important here.
This was perfect! Thank you for doing this test~ your thoughts and concerns were mine as well 😅
your voice and personality matches the vibe of your shorts. both calm me for some reason. awesome content
I’ve been waiting for you to make a video on this!! I had an oleato espresso martini at the bar connected to Starbucks reserve in Seattle. It worked way better than I expected, and I’ve been craving more.
I don’t like supporting Starbucks either. I think videos like these are a very positive contribution in freely sharing recipes, and enabling people to make these drinks without giving money to Starbucks.
I just made one, and it was great!
You have no idea how happy i am that ur making a video on thus
OMG Her voice is so cute and calming, i usually watched your shorts vids, sorry, but this is awesome😁😅
Thanks so much for sharing! Appreciate your conscientiousness more than you may know! Subscribed!
With the bitters and simple syrup I think you should of shaken the drink in a cocktail shaker.
Thank you for speaking up for unions and workers rights! I appreciate that you really care about working conditions.
Really love your passion for coffee and how you get excited by what youre having.
Currently 9 months pregnant and can only enjoy coffee vicariously through others and sniffing coffee 😂 can't wait until i can have my first coffee soon
My heart melts every time you giggle ♥
They were offered on the i90 thruway in NYS. Thank you for covering this :)
There's a regional coffee chain in my area that opened well before the first Starbucks arrived in my state. Since then they've all but copied Starbucks menu, including a Pink Drink. How Starbucks still survives here I have no idea.
New Barista Express Impress on the counter?? 👀 Also ✊ solidarity with Starbucks Workers United
Indeed on the machine! It was gifted for a different project so I’m unsure if I’ll do a full review yet but so far, I’m enjoying it :)
I was beyond HAPPY to hear that it was getting flack. Olive oil is actually really good for you and pairs really well with acidity (like espresso), so the pairing wasn't as odd as some of the other stuff I've seen trying to be marketed. But just like everything else, it is best in moderation and (judging based on their syrup recipes) SB most likely goes past the recommended amount. I was not surprised to see it caused stomach issues. It's rich, as is oat milk. People are saying they are savory "once in a while" drinks, but I don't think that's SB's market -- these are people who order and drink these daily (sometimes multiple times a day) as die hard fans with regular orders.
I had an interesting experience when I was trying flaxseed oil as a health food. At a certain point I started blending a tablespoon worth into skim hot cocoas to try to get some healthy fat in there, and to my surprise the result was a drink that tasted almost alarmingly like brownies. Which makes sense, once the flaxseed oil is emulsified in there, oil + cocoa is basically the essence of brownie. It's hard to describe the flavor difference between "chocolate" and "brownie," but it's very distinct and was actually pretty pleasant.
I'd be curious to see how steaming olive oil in works with for example a mocha. I never tried to do this with a coffee drink (and I'm not sure flaxseed oil stands up to heat well enough to do stand up to steaming - I used a blender - but olive oil might). If "emulsification of sugar + oil = baked good flavor" there might be some interesting potential there.
My comment might get lost here but thought I would try and say hi again. You were on my flight today and I was fangirling in the back. Wish I got to chat with you, but thank you for being an awesome passenger 🥰
Good job on not taking to many time breaks while recording the clock in the background is a good time stamp on how long it took to record the video
honestly so glad to see you speaking openly to condemn starbucks’ union busting, on the organizing barista end it’s so nice to hear support from other baristas. my store is launching oleato tomorrow and that’s meant i’ve been messing around with different drink ideas. so far my favorite is the iced shaken espresso with toffee nut syrup and partanna shaken in, topped with oat milk. we’re also adding something called Golden Foam, which is just our classic vanilla sweet cream with olive oil frothed in and that’s been nice on top of iced drinks. and for all my starbucks baristas out there who have partanna in their shops, a fun combination everyone at my store has loved is a grande oatmilk frappucino with a press of partanna and half a slice of lemon pound cake double blended in. it tastes like sicilian lemon olive oil cake :-)
Love your videos ❤ May I ask where you buy your glasses? I’ve been needing a new pair and these ones you’re wearing suit you so well (:
They’re from Warby Parker!
Interesting fact, a lot of oat milks, unless you buy low-fat I believe, will be already mixed with oils to make it denser and get a texture similar to regular milk.
i had the coldbrew with olive oil foam and it was SO good... like yes it tasted "round"
i'm terrified to try these (for the sake of my toilet)
i really like sweetness with olive oil so i was curious about these. they weren't available near me so i didn't get to try, thanks for reviewing them!
And if you have leftover panela, you can make limonada montañera, which is delicious. Or a more "hands on" (but not really) recipe, is called mielmesabe. Or just melt it with a piece of cheese. ❤
Thanks for bringing up the union busting. I live across the street from one of the shops they closed because "the neighborhood is too dangerous".
(my neighborhood is not particularly dangerous)
I work for Starbucks outside of Boston, and we released the drinks yesterday (June 6, 2023).
I do know that Starbucks is intending on doing a wine release across all stores, eventually, and they are intending it as something to stay and continue through the future. This isn’t going to be just a one month thing and they’re done. It’s not just for the reserve stores, they’re planning on making this a core offering.
The three main drinks are the lot tea, a shaken espresso with Tuffy, Max, olive oil, and milk, and a cold brew with olive oil blended into those sweet cream, cold foam.
@ Morgandrinkscoffee Wow Morgan! That slide at the beginning was so smooth that I couldn't even hear it! Lol Good job. :)
I'm getting a breville bambino soon and while I love all of your suggestions I don't think this one is for me either. I can't wait to start experimenting on drinks and saving money by not going to Starbucks. Thank you for all of your tips and tricks. I always look forward to learning from you.
Hmm I may try this, thanks for giving us options. I rarely go to Starbucks, unless I have to.
can we start a petition to refer to barista series oat milk as "Boat Milk" from now on
I’d be down for that
Love your videos!!
- question though - do they normally have background music? It some parts it was too loud (when talking about the cortado and then again at the end). Or maybe it’s just my brain/ears
I really like coconut oil in coffee occasionally; it goes really well, although it will separate. I never thought of trying to steam it with my milk-will have to try it.
please give some tips on how you started your channel as you have inspired me alot
I really like putting a few grams of (room temperature or melted) butter in my lattes. I pull the shot over it, and then pour my steamed milk. It adds a really nice rich creaminess and cuts off a tiny bit of bitterness. You get a sip that coats the mouth and the flavors last longer in your mouth. I think it was originally a sort of health fad, but I just do it cause it tastes good. XD
Just made the iced cortado v2 after trying both the cold foam cold brew and the shaken espresso from Starbucks. I def put too many drops of bitters in mine but I have to say I’m impressed by how interesting and unique it is. I know it’s a cardinal sin to enjoy the bucks but I have to hand it to them for creating a drink that strays away from the usual sugar.
Interesting drink. Starbucks is usually my go-to coffee shop on my way to work but I will certainly not be spending any money there while they engage in anti-union behaviour.
For the cortado, it seems like it would work better to shake it like a cocktail, which should emulsify the oil, though it would dilute a bit.
COCONUT OIL, and coffee is absolutely divine, as is jalapeno powder and coffee,,, luv the vids
I made a coffee oil drink inspired by all this hype but i used a tiny bit of xantham gum to emulsify the oil and i ended up with really devisive slightly thick coffee that tasted less muted than with milk but more round, seemed like there was more to explore
Emulsion late is a weird concept, since oat milk is pretty acidic it's pretty stable too. If you used other milk the steaming might not have emulsified the late sauce. If you want to try other milks, add a little vinegar or lime/lemon juice, as little as possible is best to avoid getting the extra flavour.
Have you tried Turkish coffee? Super unique taste and also fun to make! Would recommend trying
Starbucks offers an Iced Oleato too like you made in this video. I'd really be interested in seeing you give theirs a try to see if your prediction about the oil not blending through properly too.
I had an Oleato cold brew from Starbucks while I was in Kuwait and I thought it was incredible! I will also say that every American branded food (Mcdonalds etc.) tasted better as well so there is that.
I fast for three days at a time, so instead of olive oil, I use MCT oil in my cold brew. It really helps with my fasting.
I do intermittent fasting everyday and I’m curious about this. How does it help with fasting?
@@gabriellegraham4103 I find that it's a bit more enjoyable, ghrelin isn't as bad. I do decaf cold brew. You do have that oil on the top of the coffee and to some that's a bit off putting. I've noticed that I lose a little more when I use the mct oil. I've been tracking it for six months now. Our routine is 72/3.
This is indeed an interesting thing, i have personally thought about adding some edible solubilizer, which might help with mixing oil with the drink
On the Cortado: as I remember, Starbucks uses emulsifiers like gum acacia in their syrups, which will help it get incorporated?
As a person with gallbladder issues, I am fully aware of the effects of both coffee and olive oil on my gallbladder. In fact, if I O.D. on coffee, my therapy is to make crush fresh garlic in olive oil or put a few drops of pure oregano oil in a teaspoon to a tablespoon of olive oil. I am currently on a one cup of coffee a day ration. Coffee has all that chologenic acid (bonded to the caffeine!@#$^^%) that pushes your bile and assists in that morning bowel movement. If you do too much coffee, however, it can dry out your bile by over-exerting it and then you get gall stones. Olive oil feeds and lubricates your bile, so it is a healthy addition to a coffee treat. Personally, I like richness of half & half and no sugar in my coffee. Oat milk sounds terrible alone, but if you can get that olive oil a bit homogenized into it's mucilagenous fibers, it might be pretty good. I will have to try it. A good substitute if you are dairy intolerant. (You can always have some olive oil garlic bread (or rice if you are gluten intolerant) with your coffee instead.)
My favorite Starbucks has been whipping up My coffees with heavy whipping cream & butter since 2019 which was way before the Oleato craze came along. I might add a shot of olive oil to see how that one works for Me.
That sip of the 2nd iced cortado.. You immediately just looked so disappointed that it failed to be more interesting than it was ;n;
I have to ask, how large are Morgan’s hands are? I think that is Fellow’s double wall tasting glass, which is 10 oz. I generally drink out of 16 oz. mugs, though slowly throughout the day. I thought she was using a bigger glass, but all I could find was the 10 and Circleware’s 12 oz. in that style. I want to get some of the double-wall cups in a larger size but they feel so fragile in any size.
Awesome video! Thanks for bringing Starbucks' illegal union busting activity to light.
for the cortado: have you tried steaming the milk with the olive oil? not to full temperature but just enough to homogenise and then pour that over ice?
Thank you for the interesting video. I think James Hoffman did mention that in the reserves they used better beans for it.
They do, did my best to match the roast level as closely as I could which still ended up being darker than my usual preferences!
@@morgandrinkscoffee Ah ok, are the starbucks roast that dark (I've never been to one). A too dark roast is a tad of a shame since you lose so much flavour in my opinion.
I never really got into barista-style almond milk: it always seemed greasy to me, that I could taste the sunflower oil or such used in masking the thicker milk. Adding my own oil-hopefully a nicer oil-to regular nut milk might be interesting to test.
Olive oil persists. In french it's described as "longueur en bouche". It goes well with vanilla and chocolate so perhaps it would work better in a vanilla mocha latte.
I worked at Starbucks for a year in college back in 2015/2016 and it’s sad to see the bad they’ve done since I had such a fun time working there
From what I've heard, a person's experience working for Starbucks is highly dependent on what store they work at. I've heard plenty of people to this day who love their jobs at Starbucks the customers might be annoying but their job itself and how they are treated by the people they work directly with is wonderful, and on the flip side I've heard stories from people who would rather sell their soul than ever go back to working at Starbucks. It seems that store managers and lower level managers have a lot of control over what goes on over their individual location and can use that sway to make the job a dream or an absolute nightmare. Corporate is an absolute shit show though especially with their union busting efforts.
bestie i simply must know where you got that clock from its so fine
You should try the cortado recipe but modify it as an aerocano, that would probably be a much better experience with the olive oil adding to the texture.
I still want to try it
Morgan: hi.
Kinda late to this... thing...
How long do you give it before they try savory coffee beverages with caramelized onions, roasted garlic, oregano, sundried tomatoes, anchovies...

Is there any way you might share what music you have playing at 8:50? It's very pleasing to hear
I recently splurged on setting up my home espresso station, and also got a cold brew system in an effort to save money long term from cutting out my frequent trips to starbucks (and because i fell in love with the specialty cafe i visited on my vacation). I enjoy some starbucks drinks, but I picked a very convenient time to withdraw my patronage. Their business practices are so messed up. Their staff (and consumers) deserve better.
Pretty soon there will be family owned coffee shops opening near me so when that happens I’ll start going and getting coffee again! I wish I was more aware about the things Starbucks is doing right now
Oatmilk usually has some oil anyway but more neutral and processed ones like sunflower or rapeseed.
im Mexican and when you said panela I thought the Mexican cheese but as you went on describing it I was like “oh like piloncillo” so I googled it and it’s just piloncillo in English so I was right that’s so cool
