Hello Pascal! I have visited Frankfurt during June/May. I live in Georgia and took Dlh445 on Eurowings from ATL to FRA. I took a picture in the cockpit, i had a layover in Frankfurt then took Dlh590 on Lufthansa to Nairobi kenya on a vacation. I stayed there for a few weeks then came back to Frankfurt on Dlh591 on Lufthansa. Had another layover in Frankfurt, then hopped on Dlh444 on Eurowings back to Atlanta. Being in Frankfurt was fun. I saw a lot of 747s and A359s but sadly did not get to see the A380.(But I saw a Airfrance A380 take off from Atlanta). I am a 13 year old Avgeek and i want to become a pilot for United Airlines and fly the a350s that united has ordered.
I'm curious how much 'total' hours are you at work (including commuting to/from, paperwork, airplane on ground time, airport duty and so on) for a total of 80-90 flying hours a month, and what is the distribution of shifts / free time etc. ? I mean in general or average, not for every company in the video
I think you may have overestimated take-home pay (post net and deduction) of US pilots (and other workers). US has a slew of local, state and federal taxes. At the 6-digit salary range, at least 1/3 up to 40% or so of your pay goes to taxes. United's bases are in some of the most highest taxed states in the US, and ones with the highest cost of living. Then this leads to people live in non-base cities that require lengthy and often stressful commute, which is adding many hours on top of our flying hours. All of the countries on this list, I'd argue that US also has the highest cost of health care as well. If the pilot is operating a single-income family, it's not like there will be a lot of monies left to buy expensive toys. But it is true that in the current state of things, US pilots make more than doctors and lawyers.
of course, Middle East airlines offer better packages even if the total seems less. of course there's not only money there are many other things, that's why many people leave Middle East to go to USA
Thanks very much for an excellent survey on a matter that needs quite some time to compile and is very useful. As for pilots of US airlines please keep in mind that they can easily be subject to unpaid furlough in case of carrier’s weak financial performance. Plus you usually start at the bottom of the ladder when you change your company.
This was a very interesting video and also I loved watching it just seeing how different airlines pay there pilots but half of your hard earned money goes towards tax but being a pilot isn’t just about the money it’s about what you love to do and enjoying that experience and travelling around the world and seeing new things and being grateful for being in that position because not everyone can be in that position to become a pilot.Keep up the hard work Pascal❤🙌✈️

Thank you for a very informative video! I am not sure about the exchange rate you have used but a minor correction to the FO income tax threshold in Japan which should be 33%. Depending on the exchange rate some of a Captain's salary may come under the same bracket as well. Thank you!
The pilots making 400k a year in America is very small few for the 3 majors in US tho. Have to be on the flagship for they carrier to be making that like a350 for delta ,777 for american and having 10 plus year experience with the airline as well
Not necessarily. Some First officers at some of the majors and LCC usually can make 300k plus a year at 8-9th year pay. And captains, depending on the trips can make 500k plus. Remember it’s not always about block hours but the trip credit hours, duty/trip rigs and other stuff that can really increase the credit per month. Then you can also include profit sharing and the 16-18 percent contributions to the 401ks at the legacies that makes the contracts really shine
I am thinking of becoming a pilot. But i have a question. If in a scenario i am a captain at Ryanair and then switch airline to maybe Emirate. Will i need to start over again from first officer or will i still remain a captain but with less seniority?
If you have >2500 PIC hours on CS25 aircraft you could join the accelerated captain route with Emirates. Plan is to become a captain in Ryanair to get those sweet hours requirements, then join Emirates as a FO for ~6 months and at the end of this period you could be a captain again in Emirates
Regarding what I'd do with the money earned? I'd enjoy myself and live comfortably, but keep my head down and invest a big vast of that money for my financial independence and for contingency measures. You can never know what will happen tomorrow!
If I’m making 400k a year first thing I’m buying is probably a sports car, guest house, and give half of what I have left to my family members, wife and kids if I have any.
so we have a federal income tax that covers the whole US and it's territories, that's also on a sliding scale, the more you make the more you pay... Then comes the state income taxes, they're also a sliding scale, the more you make the more you pay.... But you can always pick any of the 8 states that don't have any income taxes, I live in one of those states, and love it.....

Its surprising to see how well some airlines pay, and then you compare to airlines in Scandinavia who have absolutely terrible pay as well as having some of the highest cost of living. Starting sallary for a non-typerated pilot at Norwegian is only 41K USD, same goes for SAS. Tax is usually around 40% here, but then again everything in Norway would be more expensive than in Germany, Italy etc. etc. Its almost not enough to make a living and with upwards of 100.000USD in student loans + insurances etc. you're basically at minimal wage. In SAS it takes 10+ years to get captain, and as a first year captain you're still looking at less than 100.000USD a year pre-tax. My dream is to fly in Norway, simply because it's where I am from and with the airports we have it's the best and most challenging place in Europe to fly by far, but if someone is looking for pay it's probably the last place you want to work in Europe
In my opinion pilots all over the world or continent wise should have the same payscales… I mean we are all doing the same job why should someone earn 30k and an other one 80k for exactly the same work. Pilot payscales in the most parts off Europe need to be drastically lifted! Have a good day mate 🙌✈️
In the US, that 400k/yr will just be 250k a year after tax. Then you pay health insurance, long term disability since it is important for pilots because you could lose your job any time. So it goes down very quick lol. It’s still very good though.
and with crazy life cost of big American cities..... in the Middle East you get 100/200 v(FO/cpt). but everything is paid and no taxes everything goes into your pocket. want to know if in usa a cpt has 200k after ALL expenses (including education for kids) I DON'T THINK SO
Currently in the U.S. in school, plan is to become a homeowner and invest enough money to be able to retire with a small runway in my yard and have planes of my own, which is legal and obtainable here. My grandfather did, and it was a blast.
1st year FO around 65,000€ gross per year + FDP pay and per diems. EWD has more layovers than EWE and EWG, so you get a little more there. And the crews are really cool to work with which is the most important :)
I'm applying for Discover and the table they sent states ~51600 EUR per year plus allowances (they claim around 700 EUR extra per month). I assume the values are brutto as usual (?)...
Very informative, being Indian I would like to correct that taxation when you make 50K USD can be more than 30% which is highest tax bracket as not many individuals make such money
Well I'm lucky I'm a U.S citizen... United here we come. If I have 400k a year, I would save it and get a nice AF house, nothing crazy crazy, but basically my dream house. Right now, it's listed at 5 million. Thanks BTW for helping me and so many others make sense of this!
I'm actually planning to become a pilot for Delta in a few years. I'm at an Aeronautical College in the US working on my commercial certificate at the moment. However I plan to invest my salary, so I'm hoping for 1M+ a year eventually
The guys making 1M a year at Delta have over 30 years flying for them, so very senior, and only fly routes that pay them 300%. You'll get there once you're a few years away from retirement or aging out
400,000 dollars a year. Thats wild, probably use it for some honeymoon or holiday trips for me and my girlfriend or my family. Could get some artefacts too.😂
I'm pretty sure non of the foreign pilots who fly for Emirates, Qatar or Etihad speaks Arabic, or alot of the foreign pilots who fly in Africa speaks the local language.
@@charlesjay8818 arabic ins not required and not spoken but the majority of employees of those airlines...maybe you don't know but in those c countries 90% of the people that live there ARE FOREIGNERS
279 aircraft for Ryanair it’s not correct, the group has almost 600 aircraft now. Plus I think they have something like 400 on order thanks to the new max 10 order. The other day I saw a statistics saying that it’s the first airline in Europe by far and 5th airline in the world by number of daily flights.
Hello, keep in mind that we are talking salaries, so the concerned airline is Ryanair as an airline, and not as a group. You shouldn't count its subsidiaries ;)
Hi I had a little question , If I begin in Lufthansa and I stay there for 10years and then I want to go to emirate . What position will I be ? Am I going to be consider as a first officer or as a pilot who has 10years of experience? Thank you !!
Hello Sir am harsh am from india right now I am doing my flight tranning . I have question for you sir can a airline pilot buy a 500 thousand dollar car or buy a 5 million dollars house as working in delta or american airlines please reply
As a pilot (Im a US citizen contemplating going to flight school) are the job opportunities available all around the world or mostly just in one's own country? I'm not asking about outliers since I've met Americans flying for foreign airlines so I know its possible. But is it practical or realistic to work overseas as a pilot?
Great video, altought it would be cool if you make a video about the requirements of each airline: I mean, to work in united, do you have to be american or own an american residence? Same question about the others. Thanks
@@Pascalklr but you and the captain definitely follow those rules 😉 😉 Even if not, like, bruh. The views are great yes, but surly just sitting there has gotta make you question the job?
it would be nice to see where you got the data. Also it kind of sounded like commercials for 10 different airlines. did you have to do it that way so that you could use their stock footage? Overall pretty fun video but concerning US airlines you can probably make more money at any regional compared to airlines 10.-2.. United didn't even get new pay scales yet. Delta's wide body captain pay for this year is $470 per hour. Also every major adds at least 16% into your 401k retirement fund. You were kind of imprecise with the definition of flight hours. It seems like most airlines in that list were paid by block hours, in the US though there are trip rigs like 1:1 block, 1:2 duty, 1:3.5 time away from base. So often times you don't actually fly as many hours as you get paid, but less. How does EW discover do it? I'm genuinely curious.
Very interesting! I recently read that Delta Airline’s new contract has a section that states they will match the highest paying airline + 1%. Exciting times to be a pilot.

1st year FO around 65,000€ gross per year + FDP pay and per diems. EWD has more layovers than EWE and EWG, so you get a little more there. And the crews are really cool to work with which is the most important :)
@bahenbihen that sounds about right. Thanks 🙌✌️
ARE U TELLING THE MONTHLY OR YEARLY SALARY
Yes, but that’s before taxes except in Saudi Arabia.
Hi Pascal, if I made $400,000 a year, I would invest maybe about $100,000, and then buy a private jet with the rest of the money.
Private Jets are quiet expensive but i get the idea 😅🙌
I would definitely buy my own small aircraft
I would buy real estate properties
According to the rate here in South Africa it's a money it's more than 8 million 🔥🔥
I would invest
Well I'm lucky I'm a U.S citizen... United here we come. If I have 400k a year, I would save it and get a nice AF house, nothing crazy crazy, but basically my dream house. Right now, it's listed at 5 million. Thanks BTW for helping me and so many others make sense of this!
PilI’m ta in the US also have per dim and some airlines offer profit sharing, a lot of pilot can end up making well over 500k usd
Good Video ✊
Thank you 😊
I'm actually planning to become a pilot for Delta in a few years. I'm at an Aeronautical College in the US working on my commercial certificate at the moment. However I plan to invest my salary, so I'm hoping for 1M+ a year eventually
Enjoy the way ✈️ it’s such an rewarding path to go 🙌
The guys making 1M a year at Delta have over 30 years flying for them, so very senior, and only fly routes that pay them 300%. You'll get there once you're a few years away from retirement or aging out
5 to 10x returns year on year 😂
400,000 dollars a year. Thats wild, probably use it for some honeymoon or holiday trips for me and my girlfriend or my family. Could get some artefacts too.😂
Travelling is definitely a perfect way of spending some money 🙌✌️
Yeah
Sorry but i did not understand. For exemple a First Office gets 100.000$ per 85 hours?
No per year! ✌️
I start aviation college next week it’s going to be a long road but I’m read for that mula 😅
Great video, massive like from here. Do you know if it is necessary to speak the national language of the airline in order to fly for them?
Depends in germany for example it is mandatory ✌️ Thank you mate !
@@toffonardi7037 YES that's my point. Alot of pilots and crew in the GCC countries are foreign and don't speak Arabic. Read my comment above again
@@charlesjay8818 ok looked more like a question
what bout qatar, singapore, cathay, quantas, speedbird, etihad, saudia, air france, ... ect
Form where do you have the Information about what Ryanair pays?
A friend of mine who flew out of Italy ✌️✈️
Sir what about finnair
gibt es auch videos auf deutsch ?
Aktuell nicht, sorry. Aber es gibt ja immer die Untertitel Funktion 💪✈️✌️
How about UPS?
How much the cost of the course bro .i think it's very expensive
Depends where you live I would say between 60k-110k dollars✌️
@@Pascalklr wow that's great bro ❤️ because my dream is to become a pilot
You quote number of aircraft each carrier has in their fleet, what was the other stat you were quoting?
I would certainly buy one of those well produced german porsche 😊
i will add some pilots left Ryan Air for Aldi cashiers in Ireland so pay isnt great
I talked about ryanair based in germany✌️
Ryanair's salary is surprisingly higher, because of good-hard-landing pay.
I think it is not possible that is why you not answering na
Depends on what else you do with the money. Invest it have good returns, then definitely ✌️✈️
Thanks
Thanks for the idea 💡 it’s definitely noted! Have a good day ✌️✈️
@@Pascalklr Sure, you are an inspiration!
The income at Singapore Airlines would be nice to know
hey man, just wondering, do pilots during cruise get to play music or chill or their phones when there is nothing to do?
Unfortunately not. In my company we have a policy that phones need to be turned off. Have a good one ✌️
@@Pascalklr but you and the captain definitely follow those rules 😉 😉
Even if not, like, bruh. The views are great yes, but surly just sitting there has gotta make you question the job?
What about TUIfly? I read that they pay even more than Lufthansa?
What's your opinion on free breakfast
Free meals are always great 🙌
it would be nice to see where you got the data.
Thank you Pascal 😁
You’re welcome 🙌
Income tax in India is 30% for people earning more than 20k dollars. The 5% is for people making less than 8k a year
How about the Singapore airlines salary .F/o and Cap😊,
I like your videos
United is the way to go
with 400.000$ the first thing i'd buy is either a Porsche gt3 rs or i will wait till i have enough to buy me a big house
both really nice things but a house is probably a bit more important 😅✌️
Don't buy liabilities.
I really want to be a pilot, but I have a lack of funds to study this skill.
Me too I wanna kill myself cuz of it
Get a well paying job by education first!
@@bray8949 Education........ok butttttttt I don't think 7th graders learn a lot about planes and how to fly them am I right?

Pascal you re a legend...tell me the way to fly in US please....im a a320 CPT with total of 10000 hours ...do something dude...
Is the salary per month or per year?
Per Year ✌️
I'd buy a plane for myself.
only thing missing is the aircraft the pilot flies that changes how much you make DRASTICALLY especially if you work for an airline like united
