The quality of the well thought out and yet simple reviews leaves me speechless every time. If there was an award for reviews on audio equipment you'd be the only one to qualify and win. Almost like your a DJ yourself and know what you're talking about (j/k) ;) Controllerism!
actually just want to say thanks for uploading this vid. without going into particulars of each unit which are available elsewhere the comparison for real world practices is excellent. thanks man.
@tump3dor You should only plug in speakers to the S4 when it's in use. The S4 isn't designed to take the place of your PC's soundcard, it merely works as an interface with the Traktor Pro S4 software. I hope this helps! Thanks for the comments.
We did not see any issues with the mapping that came directly from Pioneer. Pioneer currently has instructions on how to import the mapping for the DDJ-T1 into Traktor Pro 2. With that said, occasionally a pre made mapping may require a few tweaks to make it tailored to your performance style. Hope this helps!
The DDJ-T1 is a Traktor specific controller. It can work with Virtual DJ and Serato (with knowledge of MIDI mapping) but you should look at the DDJ-S1 if you prefer Serato over Traktor. You can determine if a particular item is available for international shipping by using the shipping calculator. If you are unable to calculate shipping for an item to your country then that item can not be shipped there. Please note that in addition to any shipping charges, there may still be tax or duties.
@almightycornholio I misunderstood. The S4 comes with Traktor Pro 2 now and the Scratch upgrade through July. You would not need the Audio 4. Simply plug your decks directly into the S4 if you want to use them or just use the jogs on the S4. It's brilliant.
@emnasiah It's just a second master output utilized to powered monitors or an amp to booth monitors. It allows the dj in an isolated booth to hear the master mix in real time.
@DJjohnnjay Thanks for the comment. Try and do some research on Traktor, maybe even download the LE version so you can become familiar. There are pros to having a controller simply because of the size and portability, but it's tough to commit if you aren't familiar with the software. I do highly recommend the S4 especially since I made the switch from turntables myself.
@hoppinhouse No, you're not able to run two laptops on one controller. The best way to tag is for another DJ to bring a jump drive and just plug in to your laptop. Thanks for the question.
We can usually ship to your country, though not every product is available for international shipping. You can determine if a particular item is available for international shipping by using the shipping calculator. If you are unable to calculate shipping for an item to your country then that item can not be shipped there. Please note that in addition to any shipping charges, there may still be tax or duties that may be charged by your country at time of delivery
@DJLPNY Pioneer DDJ-T1 only works with Traktor, S4 likewise. The Denon DN-MC6000 is compatible with VDJ and Traktor, and the Xone DX works with Serato Itch only.
I moved from Vinyl to the Kontrol S4. The job wheels are great for scratching. There is no obvious latency issues, and a great feel to the whole unit. I can also mix in instruments/vocals on the fly through the live input, and add great FX in real time. It is awesome for club/ bar/ corporate/ and also weddings as its compact, seriously feature packed, and doesnt hurt that it looks the business. Thats where my money is!
@teamoney80mg Thanks for the comment. The DDJ-T1 is more rigid than the S4. I've had my S4 for 10 months and have played almost 2-3 gigs weekly since switching to it. I've had to calibrate just my jogs on occasion, but that's it. I do however only travel and gig with it in a road case. For me Native Instruments is the best in terms of support and software fixes/updates vs. Serato or Pioneer. Both are very reliable but I prefer the S4. I hope this helps!
@mrciro18 I use the S4 in a hard case. Either is great if you can secure a good case, but I still favor the S4 with all the bells and whistles and sweet layout. Thanks for the comments!
@fredo9999 It has an auxiliary input but it is for a line input. You can plug in a turntable if you have a separate converter box to switch the signal to line.
@Paquitosito DJ's mix visually if they don't have a good monitor. In Traktor you can use the "phase meter" and in Serato you can visually match the kick or snares on the waveforms. I hope this helps!
@onlyBabesNObrocnts You can always rely on your ear in any mode. The beat-grid shouldn't prevent you from mixing accurately, but I know you can always mix manually. You never need to sync your tracks, it's just an option. You can use the mapping in Traktor Pro 2, with minor adjustments in preferences. I do not think the T1 is compatible with the DJS software, but you can check the Pioneer forums just to be sure. Thanks!
the DENON best controll out there now... (traktor version of course...) + man!! your reviews are by far the best reviews out there in youtube, thanks a lot really infrmative
@brettskitube99 Thanks for the kind words Brett! The DDJ-T1 is great but you can do so much more with the S4. Aside from the price difference, you have the Sample banks and loop recorder on the S4. Everything else is almost identical. I'm not sure if the Pioneer edition of Traktor will have these updates in the future, also. I hope this helps!
@peterbandulj You can totally do big gigs with any controller. It's more convenient to bring a controller because you can hook it up to any mixer or PA system. I switched last year in November and I've used mine for every gig, twice or more a week since.
@maclarengu If you like to use a lot of cue points, looping, and scratching go for the S4. If you are a pure blender then the T1 might suit you better. What type of tunes do you play?
@Apt14Productions I would love the Xone DX if the jogs were touch sensitive and it mapped well with Traktor. Stay tuned for updates on the DX and/or another controller form A&H considering the price drop. I hope this helps!
@OpForUnMaker We may be able to do that in the future. The main difference is that the DN-MC6000 can be mapped to Virtural DJ or Traktor and the NS6 is proprietary to Serato Itch. Check out our videos for each and maybe that will help. Thanks for the comments!
@doofuso67 Thanks for the question. I agree with you on every point. I have chosen the S4 and I keep it in a gig ready hard case with a gliding laptop stand. I don't have a booth output but I personally don't need it if I am playing a large stage or club in which case I plug my S4 into another mixer that usually has a booth output. For the smaller gigs with portable PA I set up next to or in front of my speakers eliminating the need for a booth monitor. I hope this helps!
@Uniquesquared Thank you for the quick reply! However, are you simply suggesting the S4 or are other devices not suitable for my requests at all? The MC6000 and especially NS6 have my general preference because they are also stand-alone mixers; not limited to Traktor only. Besides, I noticed the S4 has only 1 Mic-in. What I furthermore like about the NS6 is its robust quality finishing and lay-out. On the contrary, the S4 is plastic and the MC6000 reminded me of a slotmachine ...
@stagor23 Yes, you can. You will have to map some of the additional features though. It really isn't that difficult. Check the NI forum for links to the mapping. I hope this helps!
@DieHardNiner21 Absolutely, you can adjust the slope of your cross fader and line faders fast or slow (for blending) in the Traktor software in mixer preferences. Message me direct if you ever have any questions, I'll personally be glad to help! Cheers!
@IAmMentrax The DN-MC6000 works great with Virtual DJ, which is a good beginner program, especially for DNB and Dubstep. It also works great as a stand alone mixer for extra CDJ's because it's a little smaller than the S4. It should work perfect for you.
A VERY IMPORTANT point most of you dont take into consideration, SOUND QUALITY. Best soundcards out of all these are the xone and s4, both 24bit-96khz soundcards, the denon and pioneer are both in the 40 some khz range, quite far from pro sound.....
Your videos are GREAT ! Thank you for making my decision-making even more difficult, LOL.... As a beginner I am sooo undecided on 4 controllers (The S4, Denon MC 6000, Numark N4 and NS6). I've watched every one of your videos....What final advice can u give me besides wishing me luck ?
@specialcase1000 I think you'll love the S4 especially being a trance dj. It has the best effects, you can mix in amazing samples and loops for transition in the sample decks, or mix 4 tracks for incredible layering. If you don't need 4 decks, check out the S2 out early next month. I hope this helps!
scot magno is awesome, just want to say your information on which ever product line, you discuss is always clear and concise. I do however have a question about the Denon MC6000 , I know it comes with virtual dj can I remove that and install native instruments traktor pro 2 Thanks Donald
@Uniquesquared wow can't wait man for that demo.. numark 4trak looks amazing... one more question that i forgot, can i use any of these 3 controlles at a gig or a club?? thank u for the help and very nice videos btw really helpfull...
You can always map your controllers in other DJ software. However, I've switched from VDJ to Traktor Pro when I bought my S2 + X1 (for samples) and it's the best thing I've got so far. Like the reviewer said, the jogs are super accurate and the samples cues and loops are great. I wanted to get the T1 before, but the jogs felt kind of cheap to me and since I never used CDJs I'm not used to the Pioneer setup anyway. It has a nice overview, but Native Instruments S4 and S2 kill it in capability.
@Pena1003 I think you will have an easy time transitioning to Traktor from VDJ. The S4 is a very tactile controller and has more features than most others. I hope this helps!
Thanks for the video - very informative. I have a question about the DDJ-T1. I hear that it only works on the special version of Traktor that comes in the box and cannot be mapped effectively with the Traktor Pro 2. What, if any limitations does the DDJ-T1 version of Traktor have in comparison to the full version? Reason I'm edging towards the Pioneer is that from a brief demo, it has a far superior feel and build quality than the S4 IMO. Thanks in advance for any help
@Uniquesquared hey man i would really appreciate if you guys did a video on how the ns6 stacks up to the s4, i'm torn between the two and i know alot of other people are too. No one else has really posted a video for that on youtube yet and i'm sure a lot of people would like to see how you would compare the two to each other. so yeah that would be reeally great, thanks so much!
Hi Scott, Thanks for yr vid... very helpful. I want to move to Traktor as I am moving from the very unstable world of M-Audio Torq. I was heading to the new Traktor controller until I recently looked at the DDJ-1. I have seen yr shoot-outs however am still unsure as to which controller is right. Scratching is not important to me.I want ease of effects, stability, beat sync-ing and loops are important. Which one in yr mind is best? Many thanks Brett
Hi, firstly i've been DJing for 15 years. Up untill this time last year i was using decks then i bought the Hercules RMX to get into digital DJing which i think is a nice starter midi contoller, others may disagree... but i'm strongly considering buying the Pioneer DDJ T1, any thoughts please guys??? Laters
Very well done video! Great overview + detail without being too long. I personally use a 4D - to me that's the mothership of mixer/controllers, but it also plays in the mothership price range ;) again: well done & thx for the video!
The Pioneer DDJ T1 is a great pick because most people buying a controller are looking to make their way up in the DJ world. Since the Pioneer CDJ's( 2000, 900, and 1000's mostly) are the industry club standard, the DDJ T1 will give you the experience you need to play on any of the CDJ's Thats why I like it
Hello i'm about to upgrade from my Numark Mixtrack and i'm thinking between the Pioneer DDJ-T1 and the Traktor S4 (since they are 4deck controllers and they can be found cheaper on ebay) ,i also agree about the above and i would love any advice really.Thank you :)
Can the Unique Squared crew make a comparison between the Numark NS6 and the Denon DN-MC6000 please ? I'm getting a new full mobile setup next weekend and I just want to make sure I'm buying the best (:
Dear Uniqeusquared, In terms of durability I'm reading that the s4 has some issues with build quality and can tend to be fragile any thoughts on that? Did the ddj-t1 feel like a more rigid piece of equipment more solid? Iv'e read of people having problems with the s4 after 4 months of owning it, in relation to buttons not working properly. Great video thanks.
I've never DJ'd in my life, Is a controller like the ones in your video the best place to start? Also for a beginner which system is better to use the Traktor s4 or the DDJ T1? Thanks for the advice!
on any of these controllers can you hook up two laptops both with the required software.. lets say you are djing and your friend wants join in maybe on two channels while you stay on two because he might have different music
Very good video DJ Mad Flip, u forgot to mention how much supperior the S4 will be once Tracktor 2 comes out on the 1st of April 2011 and you an x1 Kontol. It Just can't be beat, DJ Shiftie mixes "THE BEST EVER, I CAN'T BE BEAT"
I like the size of the Pioneer and the NS6 (not in the video) but these units will be best suited for mobile DJ's and bar DJ's (where the venues often have no gear), it's unlikely that you'd take the DDJ-T1 or NS6 with you into a club, there is simply no space in your typical DJ booth with CDJ-100's, DJM and turntables. For this reason the Denon and the Xone are better for club DJ's but are also viable for any DJ. If you're mad on scratching use a DVS + a controller for looping, FX etc.
Because if you’re moving from Vinyl to digital, then records are too expensive to take with you internationally. This is the best console for scratching I have used. Imitates the feel of vinyl very successfully. I moved from one side of the globe to the other and taking 600 records was just not an option for me.
how does the DDJ T1 work with traktor Pro 2's Sample deck mode? For example: when in the sample deck mode do decks 3 and 4 hotcue buttons funtion as play for each sample? or do you have to use 4-deck mode with the DDJ T1?
Really good tips man, i'd like, if possible, a comparison between ddj t1 and numark 4trak. i have a medium experience in midi controllers and i was determined to buy the ddj t1 until i got to know de numark 4trak, it seems that it has more buttons to control the traktor and more possibilities, but i read in some place that the 4 trak could never be compared to a pioneer product, is it true? or is it just the brand. thanks
@Ksehsatoo The S4 is more compact and portable for certain. I go to every gig with my S4 and my laptop bag. Period. I always brought 2 turntables and mixer, my Audio 8 and all the cables, plus my laptop, all in flight cases prior to making the switch last year. It's more reliable and easier on your back with any controller, but I favor the S4. I hope this helps!
I've heard that a lot of people prefer the s4 to the DDJ T1. I want to buy one of them. My question: Is the S4 Kontrol still better if we use the DDJ t1 with tracktor Pro 2 instead of the limited edition for pioneer?
I'm interested in mixing a live instrument (e.g. violin, piano) into my mixes. Or in future, maybe even more instruments (small band). So what I'm basically looking for is ability to record, loop and use effects on live inputs, to combine them in a mix of (prerecorded) tracks/samples. I'm mainly thinking of the genre Electro Swing (or swing jazz) here. Would any of the devices discussed here be suitable for this (and maybe also other similars like the NS6)? If so, which, if not, what is? Thanks
@AudioMashUp If you've been spinning for that long, you're most likely a very advanced DJ. I would recommend saving for the Kontrol S4. It would suit you nicely. I hope this helps!
@Uniquesquared, how would numark ns6 compare to the controllers you have in this video? I ve been a traktor user but I really like the way NS6 is built. Im thinking about trying ITCH. the only thing that is holding me back is the lack of dedicated filter knob. What is your take on this? My style of music is electro, house, and trance. i don't care too much about scratching. i want a setup that can help me develop better skills in creatin
i am split between the s4 and the denons. what would you recomend? i lean towards the s4 because of all the cool features +traktor pro. but at the same time the denons arent made of plastic and has those booth controls +2 mic inputs. why cant they just make a super awsome controller with everything? what would you say scott? please help me out between the two.
@Uniquesquared Would you agree that if i were to get the T1, it would mean that i would have an easier time switching to cdj's and a mixer in the future
@almightycornholio If you want to buy Traktor Pro 2 and the DDJ-T1 separately you'll have to configure a custom mapping for the sample deck functionality. It would also be much more costly than buying the S4 alone. The visual impression does play a part but like you I'd rather let my music and my performance overshadow whatever gear I'm playing on.
im a beginner with a 2-part question: 1) in regards to the S4, can 2 other turntables or CD players be connected on the other 2 channnels ? 2) Also, can an equalizer and or tuner be connected as well ?? Thanks
The quality of the well thought out and yet simple reviews leaves me speechless every time. If there was an award for reviews on audio equipment you'd be the only one to qualify and win. Almost like your a DJ yourself and know what you're talking about (j/k) ;)

the DENON best controll out there now... (traktor version of course...) + man!! your reviews are by far the best reviews out there in youtube, thanks a lot really infrmative
@stathini The Denon has a metal chassis while the NI S4 is plastic.
@chunkofice Agreed, but it wasn't out when we made this video. Definitely look for more vids like this one from us soon.
@MunjaDj You adjust the curve within the Traktor software. It is very, very sharp and your cuts are well defined.
@phazedown VMS4 review is coming very soon. Thanks for the comment!
@SuperErin21 Right, but that one wasn't in this comparison.

@rocketoil You don't have to use all 4 decks when you use the DDJ-T1. Most times I just use 2.
Nice lil review. Up next you should compare the new Numark NS6, Reloop Digital Jockey 3, and the American Audio VMS4
@OpForUnMaker We may be able to do that in the future. The main difference is that the DN-MC6000 can be mapped to Virtural DJ or Traktor and the NS6 is proprietary to Serato Itch. Check out our videos for each and maybe that will help. Thanks for the comments!

The S4 works as a standalone mixer too. I use mine with a pair of pioneer CDJ 800s.
@ThisIsRemixXD You can only run one CDJ. The S4 supports dual CDJs.
It should be mapped right out of the box. Do you have the latest version of Traktor? If you are running on a PC did you install the latest drivers?
@specialcase1000 I think you'll love the S4 especially being a trance dj.

The pioner DDJ-T1 WRKS WIT VIRTUAL DJ ?
Very well done video! Great overview + detail without being too long. I personally use a 4D - to me that's the mothership of mixer/controllers, but it also plays in the mothership price range ;) again: well done & thx for the video!
The Pioneer DDJ T1 is a great pick because most people
buying a controller are looking to make their way up in the DJ world.
Since the Pioneer CDJ's( 2000, 900, and 1000's mostly) are the industry club standard, the DDJ T1 will give you the experience you need to play on any of the CDJ's
Thats why I like it
Hello i'm about to upgrade from my Numark Mixtrack and i'm thinking between the Pioneer DDJ-T1 and the Traktor S4 (since they are 4deck controllers and they can be found cheaper on ebay) ,i also agree about the above and i would love any advice really.Thank you :)
Very good review Scott, well done.
Can the Unique Squared crew make a comparison between the Numark NS6 and the Denon DN-MC6000 please ? I'm getting a new full mobile setup next weekend and I just want to make sure I'm buying the best (:
The S4 is more expensive but you get what you pay for. The S4 is the better pick.
You can find both for great prices on the UniqueSquared website.
do you have a comparison with American Audio VMS4 and the DN-MC6000 considering they both do video and can be used as a standalone mixer.
Hey guys great vid, was wondering if you could do a overview on the Allen and heath xone 4d? Thanks
Dear Uniqeusquared,
In terms of durability I'm reading that the s4 has some issues with build quality and can tend to be fragile any thoughts on that?
Great Video. Think I'm going to go with the Ddj - T1 just looks so much more professional in alll the reviews.
Thanks! I am having a hard time choosing between the S1 vs the tracktor S4? Or I should just buy both :)
@Uniquesquared also the price is very important in this comparison, or their all the same?
@echodelta72 Make sure the cue/master knob is turned all the way to the left for cue.
@villainskateboardco Stand alone means you can play from other sources, but not direct from a flash drive.
@Uniquesquared, how would numark ns6 compare to the controllers you have in this video? I ve been a traktor user but I really like the way NS6 is built. Im thinking about trying ITCH. the only thing that is holding me back is the lack of dedicated filter knob. What is your take on this? My style of music is electro, house, and trance. i don't care too much about scratching. i want a setup that can help me develop better skills in creatin
i am split between the s4 and the denons. what would you recomend? i lean towards the s4 because of all the cool features +traktor pro. but at the same time the denons arent made of plastic and has those booth controls +2 mic inputs. why cant they just make a super awsome controller with everything?
what would you say scott? please help me out between the two.
jsut bought the S2 highly recommend! i love it! any question happy to answer
@Uniquesquared Would you agree that if i were to get the T1, it would mean that i would have an easier time switching to cdj's and a mixer in the future
@Uniquesquared Can't you map the Xone DX to tracktor? Also can you fit the DX in a back pack?
@almightycornholio If you want to buy Traktor Pro 2 and the DDJ-T1 separately you'll have to configure a custom mapping for the sample deck functionality. It would also be much more costly than buying the S4 alone. The visual impression does play a part but like you I'd rather let my music and my performance overshadow whatever gear I'm playing on.
Muy buena comparativa, gracias por informarnos de los que nos interesa, que no hay mucho por internet. Seguid así
@Freqanomix why woudln't you go for a timecode system instead? just asking out of curriosity
@Uniquesquared Thanks a lot amigo.. Appreciate it.. And sorry if I misspelled your name.. Keep up the good work.. Cheers..
Perfect video and perfect comparison.I loved ti and helped me to choose ;)
im a beginner with a 2-part question:
1) in regards to the S4, can 2 other turntables or CD players be connected on the other 2 channnels ?
2) Also, can an equalizer and or tuner be connected as well ??
Thanks
@Uniquesquared Thanks for the advice
this is brilliant. i was just having this issue picking. thank you!!!
