      I thought so too, but I'm wondering if he is actually the Valeyard. Dr. Simeon died and the Great Intelligence took his place, even referring to himself as the Valeyard in The Name of the Doctor. He appeared between the (what we know now was Matt Smith's) 12th and (Capaldi's) 13th Doctor, so maybe it alludes to that.

      He was a very good doctor, unfortunately being in a quite forgettable TV movie. However Big Finish have made some very good audio programs with him. Not quite the same as seeing him on screen, but on the plus side the special effects are amazing inside your own head.

  • @mackertheman
    @mackertheman 3 роки тому +33

    My own personal head canon is that the Scream of the Shalka Doctor is a younger version of the War Doctor.
    There's been at least 3 different actors who's played the 1st Doctor on screen, so I can't see why you can't have more than one person playing the War Doctor. Apart from the Comic Relief specials I don't know much about the other Doctors, but maybe you could think of them being all the same (in 800 years* he's bound to had more than one look and changed it up a bit from time to time)
    As for the Comic Relief specials, I only think of them as Canon when I'm watching them and like the silence, immediately forgotten as soon as you have averted your eyes.
    * assuming you go by the theory that he started counting his age from zero again at the start of his time as the War Doctor

    • @SirSX3
      @SirSX3 6 місяців тому +2

      Yes, I also like this head cannon.
      In addition, he looks like Richard E. Grant because we are seeing a version after the Great Intelligence jumped into The Doctor's time stream, so it's corrupted with his face.
      Interesting though that Steven Moffat got Richard E. Grant for that episode whilst he's looking for an "in between Doctor", but did nothing with the fact that he's the real "in between Doctor"

    The character which Stephen Fry played in Death Comes to Time is Minister of Chance, successor of the Doctor but not the same person. Back in early 2000's there was an idea of Minister of Chance series to be spirit successor of Dcotor Who series, as a matter of fact that the Doctor died in Death Comes to Time and the Minister took over his unfinished crusade to help others in universe. However, such series was never made except one video in 2014 and some audio dramas.

    There’s some factual errors here:
    - Phillip Segal didn’t “pen” the TV Movie. He was the executive producer. It was written by Matthew Jacobs.
    - It’s not established in the new series’s first season that the 8th Doctor regenerated due to the Time War. That’s what everyone *assumed*, but there’s zero evidence for it on screen.
    - Soul in the EDAs wasn’t an alternate 9th Doctor at all, he was an alternate 1st Doctor/origin story to explain how the Doctor could still exist in a universe where Gallifrey and the Time Lords never had. Not a fan of that particular plot line but there we are.

    If Jodie’s 13th Doctor ends her run by sacrificing herself by jumping into a dimensional rift, then she could emerge out the other side and regenerate - into a child, with no memory of who she is. The child would find herself at the base of a building above which is the dimensional rift, or The Boundary. Then Tecteun would come along, adopt the child, and...we know the rest.
    So, the true secret of the Doctor and The Timeless Child is that their whole life is a time-loop.
    Hence all the Doctor’s past incarcerations can be said to also be the Doctors future incarnations; and vice versa.

  • @itsandre4594

    I think that the Doctor never said anything because either they forgot about these events or because they assumed that people look like people. It’s been established that Time Lords’ appearance is sometimes based on other people (12th Doctor for example). Also, I think it’s quite funny how Mark Gatis played both alternate versions of the Doctor and the Master

    My current headcannon is that Hartnell is the First Doctor. In the future, the Doctor realizes the "regeneration recharge" Gallifrey gave him accidentally gave him unlimited regenerations. Sometime in his future, the Doctor goes back in time to be the Timeless Child and create the Time Lords.

    Regarding Briggs' Doctor, -it is very relevant to point out that the events of Party Animals don't occur and can't occur during the period when Shayde is pretending to be him (no companion named Ria for instance). Meaning that he could still be a future incarnation and Shayde merely based their disguise on that future incarnation to make the deception all the more convincing.

    Doctor Simeon being an alternate universe Ninth Doctor crossing over to cause chaos in this time stream is a fascinating theory that I enjoy, mostly because it explains why the Great Intelligence in The Snowmen bore zero resemblance to the foe The Doctor had previously faced.
    And if we thus reason that since the technical Ninth Doctor was The War Doctor, then Doctor Simeon is an alternate universe WAR DOCTOR.
    A dark malevolent Doctor in the midst of the Time War, without the morality and heart of Hurt's Doctor to convince The Moment of anything.
    Perhaps then, in that moment of failure and madness, a Doctor at his darkest on the last day of the Time War, he fled to another universe and took on the moniker of an ancient foe.

  • @DDS029
    @DDS029 3 роки тому +5

    My cannon is because of the tumultuous state of affairs during the War Doctors time, timeline were jumbled so much even a Time Lord couldn't see what had happened, and we are seeing the progression of only one of the alternate time lines. The one that went from Hurt, to Eccelstone, to (Sorry, just went brain dead), to Smith, to Capaldi, to Whitaker.

    You forgot "The Funny Doctor", as played by Lenny Henry. Yes, comedy sketch, but still, I like to think that the alt-Doctors and non-Doctors are variations of "The Doctor" including the Doctor as portrayed by Peter Cushing. Hell, I include the "Donna Doctor" as a variation of the Doctor, based on her having the Doctor's DNA (sans the memory).

    • @tristansmith5587

    Interesting video, I love stuff like this. Delving into the whrilpool of Doctor Who across the various medias and coming up with theories and personal mythology (I prefer that term to canon) for the Doctor.
    With regards to the Mark Gatiss Doctor, in my own mythology, I have him as an alternate 8th Doctor stemming from a alternate (comedy) timeline stating with the Lenny Henry 7th Doctor. So we have the 6th Doctor (Colin Baker),Lenny Henry, Mark Gatiss and then the run of Doctor's from Curse of Fatal Death.

    My own personal theory, which doesn't mean much, is that the ninth doctor split occurred when he went to Karn. They gave him the elixir to become the War Doctor, but what they didn't tell him was that their wider plan was to split him across a number of timelines, with each one having different aspects of his personality that suited the needs of the situation. Thus the war doctor went to war, whereas the Shalka doctor (aka the Duckula Doctor) is very different, distrustful of the military and aware of some unseen force that has directed him on this path.

    Okay, I'm not going to nitpick canon, because I don't care really and as you state it's entirely subjective. However, there is one thing that continually drives me nuts about these types of speculations and questions over and over again. That's the "why didn't he recognize..." syndrome. This is pervasive on forums...it even extends to the Moffat era on screen. Why doesn't the Doctor recognize him/herself when meeting an entirely different character played by the same actor. It's a different character. There does not have to be an explanation for every time an actor plays more than one character in the same program or movie universe. Actors playing multiple roles in the same programs has been happening since the inception of television...there's no reason the have to work it into the story telling. I just eye roll every time someone tries to retcon this stuff...like the 5th Doctor using Colin Baker's image because he had a bit part in Arc of Infinity before that. Give it a rest. Even if you MUST work it in, what's wrong with just "they look alike." Lot's of people resemble other people yet AREN'T them.

    The thing about the Doctor meeting another incarnation of the Doctor is that neither of them remembers the other, or does not remember them clearly enough to recall it, afterwards. We saw the same thing with Missy met with the Master, and she could not remember meeting that past version of herself before, or anything that happened, but DID have the memory of someone telling her in the past to make sure she had the replacement part on her for an emergency.

    I had a friend, back in high school, we were both out by 85/86. She was a bigger Doctor Who fan than I was, were that possible. We bumped into each other somewhere between 90 and 92, and got into a conversation about the program. She mentioned that the show ended in 89 because of the time war. That would mean that it would run Selvester, John, then Paul, which would make more sense in that John defeated the Master, passed the prison box onto Paul. The reason that the box acquisition sequencing in the 96 movie was off a bit was that it would take another 15 to 45 minutes to have the reason entered into the program. Not everyone watching this made for TV American movie were Doctor Who fans, and if they were to do it properly, it would have left even bigger question marks in the non-fans than were on some of the collars that were worn.
    The made for TV movie beat both of the Cushing movies, imho.
    Just a thought.

Imagine if he was dressed in The Eighth Doctor’s costume or something similar then later would change into his leather jacket and jumper. He was in a post regenerated outfit would that have changed things with the war doctor or made it more of a point that the eighth doctor fought in the war. Idk just a thought that popped into my mind.

      So, in other words you are going to blame Jodi Whitaker for the terrible writing, horrid cinematography, and near naked set design, when Steven Moffat stopped being the showrunner? That is where they broke cannon. A severe plummet in production values.
      For some reason, they treated Miss Whitaker 's first season like it was a whole different show instead of a continuation. It was like the new production team wanted to put their stamp on it, and failed miserably. The actors were only as good as the people behind the cameras.
      Everything was "new". They seemed to ignore how Steven kept the flow of the story. They abandoned ALL of the familiar enemies. No matter what, in the Moffat era, hiding in the background, waiting to pop up when least expected, was the Master, the Daleks, the Angels, and the Cybermen.

    The Whoniverse must include alternate Earths that exist in parallel universes. This can be where all the non-canon Doctors exist. They can be connected to the canon Doctors in some way or another, given the timey-wimey ball and all.

    You should probably rename it as "The History of the Ninth Doctor's Alternate Timelines" because in the final scene with Hurt, as he's regenerating, there are frames of which his face are actually transforming into Ecclestons's. The real question is "What is the history between the Eighth and the War Doctor?" since technically (using your term here) canonically speaking in terms of the show, War Doctor has confirmed to have regenerated into the Ninth just based on the few frames at the end of his "regeneration scene". However, I will admit that also begs the question to what Nine was doing between his regeneration and when he first met Rose. Still though, with the fact that War turned into Nine and the fact that Bad Wolf specifically "called to arms" (metaphorically) when War was about to destroy his world whilst taking on the form of Rose specifically, there's tons of evidence showing the true "history" of Nine. The real question as I said above though is what happened between 8 and War. It's weird that 8 would've gone back to Gallifrey to become the War Doctor.

    I'm sorry, but "canon is what you want it to be" is a justification for chaos. Canon is an established original and verifiable source of information. The term originated in religious discussion, in which the Bible was canon.
    In terms of a television show, the primary source of verifiable information (alpha canon) is what has been shown on-screen in terms of visuals and dialogue. The secondary source (beta canon) is what has been written in official publications related to the show in question, ie, novelizations, press releases, promotional materials. Anything beyond that is mere speculation.

    • @Gingerprince521
      @Gingerprince521 3 роки тому +1

      I kind of agree and disagree with you. Canon does sound more official and as stated in another comment of mine I use the term mythology instead. So therefore the mythology is what you want it to be. The problem with trying to use canon as a word to say what counts and doesn't count officially is that it has never been stated by the BBC or any of the showrunners what canon is except once and that was with the video games that were released in 2010.
      Now as you say the most obvious way of having this is the TV show as the main canon. However this has a few problems. for starters it's often used by some as a way of saying the show has a set canon and that any deviation from that is wrong. Hence all the Chibnall broke canon comments after The Timeless Child. However if the TV show and all it conveys is canon then Brian of Morbius (1976) already has previous incarnations before Hartnell. (It was certainly the production teams intention that these were previous incarnations of the Doctor) Thus we have to take everything on screen as canon despite the many contradictions thrown up. This is where what you'd call secondary canon can help tie things together.
      The other problem with trying to establish a official canon is where do you draw the line? Forgetting the aforementioned video games for now you could say the TV show. But does this include Night of the Doctor? It was available on TV with the red button for free and released on DVD. A secondary character from Night of the Doctor makes future appearances later in Capaldi's era and it shows a regeneration into Hurt's Doctor for Day of the Doctor. But the 8th Doctor does mention his Big Finish companions so is Big Finish canon? They mostly have the original actors playing the parts and some of their stories have aired on BBC Radio Four. But Big Finish also have adventures with Frobisher (comics) Bernice Somerfield (New Adventure novels, also said by JNT at the time as the official continuation of the show) Fritz (BBC novels)
      So it becomes this big pot of stories and ideas all mixed together that people can take what they want from. Yes it chaos but that's the joy of it. To me that's where the really interesting debates come from trying to piece together Unit Dating, The Doctor's Age etc and comparing it to other peoples and see what comes from it. It's kind of like when you have loads of different Lego sets. Yeah you could build that big truck, the Millennium Falcon and the police station but how much more fun is it to throw all those sets in together pick out the interesting bits and see what you can come up with yourself. Sorry for the long reply, I may have got carried away.

    • @TheDetailsMatter
      @TheDetailsMatter 3 роки тому +2

      I would say that in the Brain of Morbius, the other faces on the screen may easily have been past incarnations of Morbius himself. They are both Timelords, after all.
      I can't comment on Chibnall, as I became separated from Doctor Who about halfway through the Smith incarnation. As far as the big pot of stories, given that The Doctor does not always travel with companions, and given his legendary lack of fine control of the TARDIS, and the fact that one televised adventure does not necessarily begin immediately after the close of the one previous, stories which fall outside of the televised series but are published as official Who properties may be presumed to be in-betweeners. We've seen evidence of this, for instance, in Face Of Evil, in which the Tom Baker Doctor discovers that the locals have carved his likeness into a mountainside as a result of a previous visit by him which we were never shown.

    • @Gingerprince521
      @Gingerprince521 3 роки тому

      @@TheDetailsMatter Yes it's a good theory, one that many people subscribe to, including me for a while (as a fan of the novels I changed my viewpoint to fit in with some of the plotlines in them,) and gets around some later contradictions. But if we use the notion of 'canon' to the Brain of Morbius the intent is that these are previous incarnations of the Doctor. It becomes a speculation that these faces are Morbius. It's a reason I don't like the idea of any official canon and use the word mythology.
      And even with the Timeless Child the idea that they are Morbius faces can still be used if people want to. The Doctor is remembering her past, it may well be that she is just recalling the battle with Morbius not just previous incarnations.

I have a question who was the Other and in the Trial Of The Doctor we see another Doctor a darker version of the Doctor but was the doctor so is this version canon or can he be something else the Other or alternate Other mirror version of all the doctors merged into one that's happened to once to another time lord this is probably where the guardians come from?
