      Before I hated older BMWs and Mercedes and thought they were all plastic cheep. Now the w140 a class and the e43 m3 are genuinely some of my favorite looking cars now. I don’t hate new stuff but do hate the screen 8k curved Samsung monitors we have now instead of a proper well designed and crafted dash.

    I’m glad he left, but boy does Stellantis have a long road ahead of them.
    I hate it for everyone involved because there’s no getting around the fact that things could have been better for the company. I can understand wanting to be greener, but there are far better compromises than completely killing off your best selling car, along with your best engine. If Tavares really wanted the Challengers and Chargers to be “green”, I’m sure they could have gone hybrid. Controversial, but it would be better than killing off their best selling line up in exchange for EVs. Especially in today’s market, we’re global EV sales have slumped lately.
    My hope is that, going forward, they make better decisions for their buyers and the company at large.

    • @evil1st
      @evil1st 12 днів тому +1

      Actually they could of just made all of their other cars electric like the Chrysler lineup and still be able to sell the Challengers and Chargers in V8s, but no, this was done on purpose. Somebody had some agenda and wanted to end what dodge stood for.

    • @Knightmare22
      @Knightmare22 12 днів тому +1

      @ Totally agree! No one would complain if Chrysler out the Stellantis brands went fully electric. Yeah, there was the 300s with the Hemi v8, but let’s be honest, no one was buying them. So keeping it alive was pointless. The only car Chrysler has been selling that people actually care about are their minivans. And electrifying them would, from a usability perspective, make a lot more sense.
      But this just goes to show that there were far better compromises than the one Tavares chose.

    The Gen.3 Gemi needed to end, same with the Challenger and Charger. Given the political outlook 4 years ago, a v8 in a car just would not work. There was no prospect of a V8 in Europe, and a v8 would not pass emissions for cars in the US after 2026. Now that is no longer the political outlook, so Stellantis is changing their story.
    There is now an opportunity to develop a new generation cross-plane V8, which I think Stellantis should take. A smaller 4.0L v8 will fit into the new Chargers with front end modifications. It makes more sense for the Charger to have a v8 given its low hood height. Hopefully Stellantis purges themselves of Euro ideas and bring out a cross-plane V8 opposed to a flat-plane.

    In my opinion the most OEMs are struggling with their design language these days.
    In the past you could clearly differ Italian design from the German, the British from the French and Japanese from the US American... Today, it's a mess. If there is no logo on the front or a specific known design element, it's very difficult to say where that car is from. So, the most Designers can't addopt to the company and the heritage, to create an evolution... Everyone is trying to create a revolution, that won't last for longer than 5 years... It's very disappointing sometimes.

    Honestly, Stellantis is doomed from the start. Like British Leyland, it has too many individual platforms and brands to manage. Like British Leyland, the quality issues had existed before the merger, and reliability requires reforms and time that no CEO will likely to have. And like British Leyland, the union will try to stop you from doing anything, the accountants will want you to cut everything, and the investors will demand bonuses from every quarter. So technically, Stellantis will be another British Leyland.

I understand customers who want a 6-cylinder but have a V8 option. Even if you have to put an electric motor to meet regulations, do it like the C8 E-Ray. Companies that go straight to all-electric and do not take the time and engineering to make it work is disappointing. Its the excess demand and production of such iconic beasts (v8s) that dodge is "not allowed" anymore to lead the lineups with insane v8s engines.

      Alfa would have been saved if they actually invested in their bread and butter Giulia like BMW invests in the 3 series.

    The destination - car companies have to get cleaner or die - is correct but the question is what is the best way to get there. A pity the new charger EV is apparently not the home run it needs to be. I would have retro fitted the 300 as an EV. Chrysler really should be rebadging Stellantis euro product urgently.

      Chrysler should make a Chrysler. Only one of the European cars brought to the US sold well. The 500x. Forcing Chrysler to sell crap rather than producing their own goods for the market doesn't make sense to me. Let the European cars fail on US soil with a European badge. Chrysler right now outsells all the Italian brands put together on US soil with 1 vehicle. They have had a vehicle in development since Stellantis was formed which should be hitting the market in 2025.

      @ the Stellantis EV’s are all fine like solid 7/10 models not exciting or class leading but generally well reviewed. A rebadged Pug 5008 EV would make a great Chrysler product given their minivan history. In fact anything from Euro Stellantis would be the best car Chrysler have sold since the OG 80’s minivan or the horniest 300’s
