Interesting to hear the emotional ties to spending. As a recent retiree, I've gone through every month feeling like its a no/low spend month. Takes some adjusting. I know you are still young but wondering what your current thoughts are around retirement. When do you foresee retiring? What lifestyle would you like to have? Do your current goals tie into a specific vision for retirement?
All great questions!! I still need to figure out exactly when and what I envision my retirement to look like. Right now, I am focused on putting as much money as possible into my retirement investment account so that I set myself up to have security and options!
What a cool video idea! I’m happy to see someone in Alberta doing a budget video. Glad that UA-cam suggested this video to me. Those drinky drinks really add up I want to cut spending on that too. I really appreciate your reflection segment about being grateful to be able to do this. Making saving money into like a game challenge instead of needing to do it is so different. Sending love from Edmonton!
I'm trying to do a low spend this month. I did buy a mattress topper I needed because I was getting back pain from my bed which did help. But I see that as a necessity. Plus one lipstick. I'm pretty addicted to shopping so it's tough!. But I need to change my habits. I have no more space at home for more stuff!
I really enjoyed this video and how honest you were about giving yourself some leeway and not beating yourself up over the times you spent some money. It was smart to not set such strict boundaries and I think this is exactly the way I need to structure my upcoming low buy challenge ❤thanks for the motivation!
So glad you enjoyed it! Highly recommend trying it out.

watching this has strengthened my resolve to do a no spend in october, i think the hardest part for me will be cutting back on snacks while being out and about and coffees with friends. it's hard because most activities where you socialise require you to spend money, so i don't really know it's all going to go... all the clothes/makeup stuff is easy for me to forego but i love food so much ! sigh, im hoping to borrow some of your discipline, thank you for this
Love this video! ❤ I get a dopamine hit everytime I drop a little bit in my financial independent investments😍 That’s the dopamine hits I’m looking for
I want to have a zero-spent month in May. I spent so much money at the Sephora sale that now it's time for a money-fasting month. I'm actually kind of looking forward to it. I might break it once to buy myself some new yoga sessions for my Birthday, but really the Birthday Month is the best month to do a money-fast b/c other people already spoil us. P.S.- Something you said about money and identity actually made me cry. It's so true; we're so attached to spending.. I've been reading the Bhagavad Gita and there's a line about neither desiring nor hating and that is what they say is peace; freedom from the material world. PP.S- I loved this video. I can tell you both enjoyed it but was challenged by it. I did a STEPS challenge last summer. I started with 5000 but one day I did 30 000 steps. I wasn't working though; I chose to housesit for a couple of months (quite lucrative actually). The challenge made me sign up for a Walkathon Against Suicide, which I did perfectly. You should do a steps challenge and maybe another low spend month trying to BEAT YOUR OWN RECORD.
Congratulations!!! I also did the low spend challenge. I messed up one time. I got a Starbucks iced matcha latte and Panera. Friday, March 1st I spent money on Amazon and bought some new skin care by Acure. LOL. I also soothe myself with spending money. A very nice lesson. I'm going to continue low spending. No more lattes and take out. I just realized I could do it better at home. Again, well done Mel. Peace 🕊️
this was sooo interesting. i feel pretty good about my money, so i never thought that a low/no spend challenge would be useful for me. but hearing you talk about how it helped you understand your spending in relation to your emotions makes me think maybe it would 👀 haha

Thank you for talking about this
My pleasure!
If you have enough money to put $2000 in savings, you should NOT be paying credit card interest! Pay off your cards every month!
Oh I’m not don’t worry, I always pay by the due date.
@@yourinternetbigsis Oh good! I got worried for you for a minute.

It’s a great exercise, you never know what it will uncover but I can almost guarantee that it would be a transformative experience. ❤️💸👀
I loved this! But I get it - money is so emotionally driven.
Thank you for watching. 100%!
