A few decades ago, I attended a series of symposiums and presentations in Germany about the conductor/composer, Wilhelm Furtwängler. The events took place at the University of Jena.
Yep. Where Carl Zeiss began his lens making empire. Is there a statue of him in a prominent place? Heck yes!
My favorite Carl Zeiss story: "Microscopes produced by the apprentices which did not meet the strict standards of precision he set were destroyed on the workshop anvil personally by Zeiss."
Have a fine week. 🥃🐧
Zeiss sounds like he was a tough boss.
I read somewhere that he once shot a man a Reno - just to watch him die. No. Wait - that was Johnny Cash. Or maybe it was Bernie Sanders? Nevermind 😏@@DavidHancock
I have a late production model of the Zeiss Box Tengor 55/2, which is quite similar to the 56/2 in the video. It is such a wonderful camera to use! I had some fun shooting Lomo Purple with my 55/2 last summer. These Zeiss box cameras can produce some wonderful photos.
Nice! Lomo purple would definitely be fun on these.
Thanks David!
Thank you!
Thanks. Very clear explanation. Mine has a shutter at the top which looks like the Bulb pull out slider. Probably best using a tripod with these cameras.
Thank you!
Do you have any idea approximately how wide this lens is? I did some looking around and didn't see a spec. BTW, you're right - in Europe, it was 1-2, 2-8 and 8-inf meters. This looks like a very reasonable price point to put a 120 vintage grin on my face. Thanks again!
I don't know the exact focal length for this, but the AoV feels approximately normal, maybe slightly wide.

That's a USA export. I have a German one and it's 1-2, 2-8, 8-inf
Thank you!
How many rolls of film did it eat? My guess is none.
Lol, none but the shutter was a bit slow and many of the shots were blurry.
