Wax rings may be more difficult to install, but they seal and last. I'm hearing that these foam seals rot out and there has been expensive floor damage in some cases. It's cheaper to hire a plumber to put a wax seal in (if I can't do it myself) than hire a contractor to replace the floor down the line.
Agree, the wax more trust than rubber. I use wax 27 years. No problem at all if toilet never shaking.
This rubber seal was used only a few times in my practice in places, where the wax no way to install.
@@FixitAll Okay, now I understand why you went with the rubber seal. I've used the rubber wedges they sell in the gap(s) at the base of the toilet to prevent toilet rocking. It has been good for about 24 years now.
👍👍👍
Was that a 4 inch flange? I thought they were all the same size
I didn't measure it, but from my experience installing hundreds of wax rings, this hole was much wider because the wax couldn't stay on that cast iron flat surface.
As you can see at 1:00, there will probably only be 1/4″ of the outer edge left on the flange. This means that the moment I drop the toilet on top of this wax (if I use wax), the wax just falls down the hole.
Hire is a video with cast iron flange too. But this flange has standard hole, and result more flat surface.
Even iron has coned shape inside the hole and gasket wax black plastic cone was fit just perfect in it.
