Not sure why gen 7 would be much different than gen 6, 5, or 4? Only gen 7 and gen 8 heads are the biggest difference, but the dimensions and sizes are all similar from 1964 and up. What did you learn exactly as I like to learn too? RH is a modern shop teacher learning the masses about what was top secret just under 20 years ago! 👍

If you're going to use the stock manifold, you need to take it off and modify it first. The PCV system bleeds directly off the bottom of the manifold and will pump your cylinders full of excess oil. That needs to be plugged.

I don’t know what is going on, but I had my 454 BBC built by a very known engine shop. They built me a 496BBC Stroker all forge and racing rods and pistons. Making it 10.1 compression. With 781 iron oval port cylinder heads, larger valves, solid roller, Weiland Track Warrior Intake Manifold, DC carb Black Window… 850 … unleaded with HVH 1 inch spacers.. Jets to 75-83 from 76-85 less timing..

Hey Richard what was the compression ratio on the 496 with the rods, pistons and the 088 heads? Made over 600 hp. I currently run a 496 with more or less the same rotating assembly, highly ported 088 heads and a marine cam. In my situation I ran out of money and couldn't afford a nicer roller cam. Used a flat tappet comp cam. 544/547 lift 240/240 duration ( that's a close number on duration, can't remember exactly) with a 112 lobe separation. Think I'm close to 600 hp at the flywheel? Have a Holly single pumper 750 4150 flange on it now I also don't think is enough carb. This setup is in a 24 foot boat. THANKS!
