Hey Craig... how were you literally just on camera 1 week ago crying about not even having $10,000 to pay a court ordered judgement "because of Christmas" yet you have enough money to keep buying used Ferrari's not to mention all the money from the sale of your house that you also, on camera.. stated you were keeping to "live off the interest" which is why you're renting your McMansion in Palm Springs... Soooo... which is it? Are you actually that BROKE because if you are, you shouldnt be within a mile of a Ferrari or any exotic car for that matter... OR are you completely full of shit and making up sob stories for your audience?? Its quite literally 1 or the other at this point... so which is it?
You are so out of the money on the Ferrari listing. You got it listed at $82k but that’s easily a $60k car all day long. Get real bro. I don’t know how you sell anything.
The first rule of thumb for any fiberglass repair is that you have to remove all the damaged material, and then build it back up with an equivalent product (that means resin and fiberglass cloth, not just filler with some fiberglass in). What you did here is pretty much what one would expect from a used car lot, it looks good and will do so for a while, but you still have all that crushed fiberglass hidden under your patch, the crushed area isn't as strong and rigid as it was and the filler is probably polyester/vinylester based meaning it doesn't stick *great* to the bumper. If the bumper was made with epoxy resin polyester really doesn't stick well to it. The result of all that is that the next time that bumper flexes the patch is going to start coming loose. Cracks in the paint, possibly a chunk of filler popping out all at once. With a proper repair you would have ground all that out, you'd have a hole all the way through as big as the damage, and then a feathered area around it giving the repair a big area to stick to - you would most likely want to do the biggest "damage" on the back so you'd pull the bumper opp and work from the inside. You would then rebuild the missing material with (probably) woven fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. Grind it flat, use a thin coat of filler to get a good surface, and then paint it. This repair will restore it to original strength, and will not come loose. You could grab a rubber mallet and go whac-a-mole at it and the only damage you should risk is scratching the paint. If you do that on your repair I suspect you'll see it start coming loose, or pop off completely. As I said, it looks good now, and I get that that's good enough for many used car lot patches. On a ten year old cheap car I would expect it, but on a Ferrari? The car deserves better. And it's still a job you can easily do at home, using fairly basic tools. This could have been a great video showing a proper repair, what you delivered was such a disappointment.
I appreciate Craig showing the low cost approach to fixing the damage. I also appreciate your explanation of the more thorough, and more durable, approach. I'll admit, if I purchased the vehicle for $85k and then saw this video, I would probably be a little salty. Regardless, thanks to both of you for sharing.
I've a business proposal for you that will benefit the both of us about the investment company I'm working with, I can tell you more about the investment company....if you don't mind?
Excellent job repairing the bumper.!I’m a detailer and understand the average person won’t know it was done in the driveway and you saved thousands doing it yourself.
I agree. This just gives me anxiety watching. Painting in the garage next to the viper, shotty filler job, you can still see its not shaped well, overspray everywhere, using a drill as a sander, and washing with the top down, wth. Too much impatience to take your time and do it right.
Craig, glad you finally got a day of enjoyable Ferrari ownership. It felt like you never got that with the red one at the end of that series. For me it felt like a let down after 2+ years of buying, fixing, cleaning and selling to have a Ferrari with nothing but problems.
The amount of people clutching their pearls about the paint on the bumper of a 30-year-old Ferrari that's probably going to owner number 9 is hilarious.
whats more hilarious is craig thinking driving around some 30 year old ferrari is going to impress anybody and make him look rich when it has the exact opposite effect
@ im not in the business of dumping almost 100k on some pile of shit old Ferrari just to try and impress my neighbors big guy lol, but rest assured, my vehicles get plenty of compliments as it is, all the while not being giant headaches and LOOK AT ME cars. When I do paint correction, I hand sand the headlights, then use the 2k clear and spray the headlights. Time sensitive after activating the clear, I go around and do the other cars. Sanding and buffing leaves a thinner layer of protection vs higher build up of protection.
Why 1K clear rather than 2K clear? Also for those watching the part where he sands, compounds and polishes out the rear side fender scratch, know that there's no way you can do that on a new car. Paints are WAY thinner on new cars, so you'd have to be very very sparing with wet sanding and you'd only want to use 2000 and 3000 grit.
