I remember hearing this leaving the arena after watching the Plagers, Unger, et. al. skate. They would sign autographs on the left/front of the arena after the game. My sister was insane for the Blues. My dad often got box seats from vendors. That was the most electric atmosphere for a kid - the horn, the caged red lights at the net, the enormous dangling scoreboard... and the players - the ones on the radio - right there! There's Dan Kelly in the booth. And Ernie Hays, who laid the foundation for the entire live experience. I can still feel the place shake! Man, if I could go back in time, that would be a place I would visit.

Miles Wilson I hear ya. How about well after the game, walking through the concourses and trying to crush an upside down waxed paper cup. If you got it right, it would echo throughout the stadium.

Boy do I miss Ernie and this introduction at the Blues games. I wish they would go back to this for next year (50th anniversary) and get rid of all the other garbage they play. To bad they cannot be like Montreal and Toronto and keep the good old traditions.

Michael Pocost I don't really mind the new organist much... If I could change one thing though it would be to have him play more freestyle blues (along with St. Louis Blues of course).

I’ll take the 60’s and 70’s with organist Norm Krammer’s cheerleading beat ‘anytime!’

Do you have a recording of Ernie Hayes playing "When The Saints Go Marching In?" If so, I'd love to hear it!

Didn't find that, but here's the same song played by his protegee and successor, Mr. Boyer... who played it practically exactly the same way as Ernie did :) ua-cam.com/video/68etaSyADh0/v-deo.html

Does anyone know the name of the "prelude" song that Ernie Hays played, just before he would launch into "The Saint Louis Blues"? It was awesome - usually played as the officials were circling the ice. He would play it, then build up to kind of a crescendo, and then launch into this, just as the Blues were taking to the ice from the northeast corner of the Parquet seats. His organ perch was high in the rafters directly across the ice, so he could see the door open and the team take the ice. Man, was that great stuff....

The music he played before transitioning into the St. Louis Blues was Henry Mancini’s “Punch and Judy” from the film Charade.

I remember the song Ernie would play was "Game Time" which you can also find on UA-cam. I used to sit in the upper arena end, just above Ernie
