hwasa is such a genuine and sincere artist that she dedicates so much in to her craft. you can see how much blood, sweat and tears in maria (and to all of the songs that she wrote and composed.)
even with just the intro of the maria mv, a lot is already happening. hwasa was lying dead in the pool yet everyone is just surrounding her and taking pictures like she's some sort of art displayed in a museum (just like how netizens and the media feast on her every move). then you see the red-haired woman -- maria, her alter ego, who is watching how everything unfolds behind everyone. just from the teasers of maria, it touches the topic of life and death.
there were invitations for her funeral yet they remained unopened and notice how the chairs are facing away from her? everyone was feasting on her death at the crime scene yet no one really actually cared for her that they didn't even attend her funeral. and just before the song starts, you can see maria holding the cigarette and despite everyone trying to light it up, hoping they'll choose her, she ignored them and stared at the camera instead (this scene is inspired in the movie hwasa loves which is 'malena')
she then enters the scene, bloodied and serving these flashy people with her heart on a silver platter (literally) yet they all just ignored it.
maria is essentially how haters hide behind their screens and attack her mindlessly with their words trying to hurt her (you can see this especially with all the pointed pencils attacking her). she feels so miserable and hopeless. she struggles with all the hate and criticisms she had received and its clearly affecting her mental state (w/ the hospital setting, straitjacket, etc). she tries to escape this, looking all over the place for a way out. then she sees the crown of iron nails (ig it symbolizes the crown of thorns which means that wearing the crown despite its majestic look bears the painful burden of suffering). you can also see how she's so tempted on ending everything -- the pain, misery, etc -- as she holds a pair of scissors yet at the end she chose not to as she pulls herself and be surrounded by the people she loves.
hwasa is such a great lyricist. she has a great hand for wordplay. you can actually tell that she wrote the song bc most of the time it contains word plays. in the lyrics, it goes: "maria maria neol wihan mariya" where she plays around with the words maria (her name) and mariya (a korean word) as the two words sounds essentially the same. "mariya" in korean has several meaning as it could mean "words" or "you know what" so hwasa is basically saying: "you know what, maria? these words are for you"
maria is a song that is for hwasa. it's a song of consolation. maria is a song that tells herself that no matter what, she is already beautiful and no one can tell her otherwise. what matters the most is what she thinks of herself. and this is where lmm enters.
lmm or lost my mind is a song that is really close to my heart. istg i always end up crying or tearing up whenever i listen to the song. it's a song that brings me pain yet ironically it also brings me comfort. the symbolisms in the mv is just so impactful.
the arrows (hate and criticisms) kept on raining down on her despite her taking refuge in her home. even when she's hiding, few arrows can still be seen intruding. but despite this, it never fazed or affect her. at least not until she shot herself with her own arrow. this speaks a lot on how the person that can hurt you the most is... yourself.
the ending of the lmm mv is so powerful. even with the barrage of arrows, she didn't hide but instead facing it on, unflinching. and in the end, no arrow has hurt her. and enters again lyricist hwasa, where she said that "flowers do bloom even in the falling rain." where flower actually comes from her name (and it's also her symbol) so it's like she's saying that even when hate and criticisms fall on her, she would still bloom like a flower.

Apart from Nobody else and FOMO Hwasa participated in the writing and/or composing of every single song. Besides Twit she also wrote the story board for Maria (among other things, inspired by the italian film Malena, to whose story she relates a lot) and I'm a B (she said the film train spotting inspired her. Her drug of choice is music though :D). If you want to know more about her title songs dkdktv made good videos explaining them. The channel Museum of Music made a really good video on I'm a B and Maria as well, also discussing what Hwasa said about both of these songs (Her videos are a bit long, but definitely worth the time!). Originally, Hwasa wanted to come back with a full album after Maria, but she struggled creatively and mentally. She said in an interview that she wanted to give her fans at least something and therefore, she released guilty pleasure. During the interview I feel that you can notice that she is not a 100% happy with the album rollout and that she struggled a lot with the process of creating it.
Good news: She said in an interview while promoting I love my body that fans can most likely expect a full album in the first or second quarter of 2024.
Thank you for reacting to Hwasa!

guilty pleasure is abt mistreating herself & her family /friends when concentrating on her career (espacialy after maria album) but getting joy by doing it & “I’m a B” is what best summarizes this idea, where she try to apology in a witty way lol the song have manny antonyms sentence representing the pleasure Vs the guilt .
"Fomo " is abt contrast; a constant trade off and balancing act between opposing principles it's like highs can’t exist without lows, light can’t be defined as such without the divergent concept of shades .. it's abt life as a roller coaster hhh
She is brilliant artist who can transforme her joy, loneliness, sadness..... and many feelings throw her songs ,every single song have a différente vibe and texture.❤

With Maria and LMM, there's a Korean channel called DKDKTV who have a video explaining the two songs from the lyrics to the video as they're sort of intertwined.

The little notes that caught your attention in Twit are so good, but I think for me my favourite thing in it are the drops with the brass, it's so heavy, I love it! Man, the more we go through the girls' solos the more I'm excited for you to get to present day and to what they did with those solos during the latest tour. Just... incredible stuff, all around. I believe Hwasa hinted at a possible full album next year, so you may get your wish soon! She's such an incredible artist🤘

Don’t be shocked, every mamamoo member solo will blow you away. This is just the beginning, can’t wait for your reaction on moonbyul (lunatic album) and Solar ❤. There is no bad production from mamamoo

14:20 you might like Zico then bc it sound very much like his song (which is) ^^
I guess you are only reacting to Girl/Women Groups here? Maybe soloists at some point? If so, check him in your own time. His recent comeback might be to your liking ^^

My favorite hwasa album, It is just great, Why has that grunge rock feel, Mamamoo can do rock but there are not many songs where they do it. Probably should have skipped LMM after the MV, it is not possible to hear it without tearing up. Bless you yeah it is a perfect ending.

The post-chorus of Maria reminds me of the chorus of Pony by Ginuwine 😂
