Although I have 'white girl hair', I think I'm going to use your idea and use gel to protect what hair gets exposed to the cold. I'm going through this right now, I was wondering about what the best method as well. I knew the directions given would not work for me. I decided to cornrow my hair straight back so that the cold could get to my scalp. Then I sprayed my hair with water and put on a paraban free leave-in conditionner over the braids. My first treatment seems to have gone well since I haven't munipulated it. I will check to see about hair loss right before my next treatment, when I wash condition and braid it again. I'm documenting my journey. Maybe one day I will be able to pay it forward with my hair results as well. We definitely need more success stories and suggestions for using cold cap on 4C hair.

Hello I was wondering if you could provide an update on how using the cold cap worked for you? Any advice you could give would be appreciated.
@@lisajones658 It appeared to work well. The chemo I had AC (every other week) did cause me to lose hair toward end, but I think it I would have lost more alot sooner without the cold cap. The next chemo THP (every week for 12 weeks) I could no longer afford to continue cold capping. I made a DIY cold cap. My hair started growing back during the second chemo, but I lost my eye brows and eyelashes.
@@nhaynes732 Hello, i'm preparing for the taxol 12 weeks and wanted to know how many corn rolls did you put your hair in for cold capping? i too think it's best to just not touch the hair too much for maybe 7 to 10 days while it rest in the corn rolls. any advice will be appreciated
@@tariavamp Everyone's head size and hair texture is different. I think I had 8 rows. They were not tight. They were loose enough that the water could get to my scalp and the cold could reach my scalp and flat enough for cap to lay flush on my scalp.

What is the name of the hair gel you use please and congratulations on getting through your chemo
I loosely cornrowed my hair so that my scalp was exposed and wet my hair. I didn't use gel, but the gel sounds like a good idea. I wish I had received information about grants to cover the cost of cold capping as I couldn't afford to continue my treatment after 6 sessions.

@@tariavamp I just finished my last round of chemo on April 14. I ended up losing all of my hair. I decided not to cold capping because I did not find that there was consistency for women with thick hair like mine was and I didn’t want to waste my money if I was going to end up losing most of my hair anyway. So I’m praying it’ll grow back just as thick. I will start radiation on May 15.
@@lisaspics1127 wow! you got through chemo and that must feel good knowing that's behind you! I'm not sure what kind of chemo tx you had but not that many cause permanent hair loss. i'm sure it's going to start growing in within 8 weeks. That's what i've noticed with other people. 🙏🏽 I will send a prayer your way for fast beautiful growth.
