I'd thought I knew how good Focus was, just knowing two or three songs of them... I was mistaken. They're much better than I thought. A prog-rock band with such jazzistics insights that make them one of the most underrated bands of the last four decades.
In case you haven't found them yet, Focus VI is on Thijs Van Leer's 1981 solo album "Reflections". (it's on UA-cam 😎👍) I think the Focus 12 here is the only recorded version? Focus 13 is on the 2024 album Focus 12! 🤔😅
Not bad at all. Now in considering the newer versions of Focus 1-4, I have always loved the original versions of these pieces. To me Jan Akkerman's technique and phrasing were impeccable and nobody can play them the way he did. That doesn't mean the newer versions are bad. They are ok. I just have a preference that favors Akkerman.
So good to have all these delighful Focus compositions all in one place, and as much as i appreciate the originals, many featuring JanA, I am happy to have slight differences in the sound of the ensemble, and all the players bring to the table on these Thijs pieces.
The Completely Focus CD 1-12 is far and away my album of the year......Great box set!! Pierre's drums have never sounded better..(Well done Udo!!) and MNO is a legend!!! Shows the genius of Sir Thijs once and for all!!!

Я тоже услышал где-то в 1975 году , до сих пор слушаю с удовольствием , и очень нравиться гитара Яна Аккермана . А Тиш Ван Лир просто бесподобный , преподобный Фокус , душа коллектива ...

И потом изучите обстоятельно Focus 8, Focus 9, Focus 10, Focus 11 и ретроспективный Focus 12. Не буду нахваливать, но эти последние номерные альбомы можно слушать вечно, это Музыка на века.
Brilliant! I am buying it. However, can you tell me where the opening intro track comes from? You list it as Focus Zero. I recognize Thijs's work on Pedal Point but this intro version of Osanna seems to be a Focus group recording. Where did it come from?

Mark, all the boys are deeply rooted in Jazz. You only have to talk to them and see Thijs at the piano after gigs.... I wish they would do a Jazz album....
Надо было родиться лет 65 назад , иметь радиоприемник Спидола или ВЭФ и слушать зарубежные радиостанции ... Не пропусти , есть ещё одни достойные внимания голландцы - Golden Earring . Они тоже ещё играют , хоть и в годах ...
This is woderful played ! But for a special taste,i prefer some of the originals.....especially Focus III . I think it is the different dynamic playing.

I would have loved it even more when they'd managed to record/mix it as one long track so without the 2-3sec gaps between the tracks...
