I was at the 2nd ever performance of Oceans in November 1973. The album wasn't ready for release, so we heard it cold. Revealing Science and The Remembering sent chills down my 15 year old spine! God bless Chris and Alan!
Many people here just don't catch the idea that this is simply a studio tape. It's nonsense to compare it to a final version. And doing so, you just miss the opportunity to hear this fabulous guys creating. That's where Art is.
There are tantalizing moments here of what might have been. As great as they were I find myself wishing more of this, and the spirit of this had made the finished products. Yet a peek into the creative processes of one of music’s greatest collaborations. It also serves to remind us of the works aa they were first presented to us. Just why they’re even more special to us now, all these years later. I find all of this music more dear to me here later in life.
Great, all those tracks in gestation! Incredible to listen the path and steps the music have to passing through for to be at final point. The Yes creativity at work in the studio! Merci beaucoup for this gift!
Funny thing I never really liked the first one but this seems much better I have seen Yes 4 times with Anderson and I think it Trevon 0ne time. These guys kick ass all the time. Amazing prog superstars.😊
These are all the rough cuts , pre final cut. Its amazing how they refined the final cuts from all that we hear. The Guinness is amazing, the final cuts... just mind blowing!
I've been a Roger Dean fan from the beginning (I have an original Ramases cover), and I've imitated his lettering, for more than 50 years, but I read the title of the Yes album as "Altormato Oceans" ...
This is interesting, but I still often wonder how Tales would have sounded if Bill Buford had stayed in the band. I Loved Alan God rest his Soul. But Bill would have brought a lot higher of emotion to the Tales recording. No doubt who was driving this Music, Jon Anderson 💫
Awaken always sounded to me like the 5fth Topographic Oceans song, quite apart from the rest of Going For The One. I'm surprised (but not really) to hear this early attempt at it.
Это твое мнение, но авторы решили по-другому! Я почему-то с ними согласен 😊. YES - это что-то не Земное, особенно вокал Андерсона!!!! Awaken -без сомнения шедевр
I prefer TFTO. I waited expectently for it's release after CTTE. Listened to all 4 sides back to back. I was 24 & had listened to Their first 5 albums after being turned onto Starship Trooper from TYA.
It is VERY likely that this version (Eastern Number) was created while Patrick Moraz was still with Yes. "Out in the Sun" by Moraz contains his contribution to this song. It is also very likely that the members of Yes stripped the Moraz keyboard part of the demo, otherwise he would have to receive credit.
As much as I love that double LP & I am not trying to offend anyone who loves the album to each his/her own but I've always felt over the years that it was overrated by many fans .... i've never considered it one of their top releases many will disagree with me & that's fine it's just my opinion but it is a good album nevertheless I know many Yes fans love it & I get it but for me Yes has better within their huge discography.... but this is a good upload....
Haven't listened through this yet, but i always thought Tales... would have been perfect for the 60 minute CD format; trying to stretch it to 90 minutes on a double vinyl album just didn't work.
Would love to hear alternative takes of every album by: Yes, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Hawkwind, Gong, Steve Hillage and Frumpy. Let me know when you've uploaded. Then I will send you additional lists.
Jon was obviously just marking the vocals as a ghost track for reference when the other tracks were laid down. The instrumetal delivery is great to hear stripped down like this with alternate takes, but the vocals are cringy and horrendous at times. I wish they had just done instrumental mixes, because these were not meant to be vocal performances, they were 'guide' tracks to be omitted when the final vocals were finished. Personally I would have prohibited the release of these rough mixes, Especially if I were Jon...(or at least made sure that the guide vocals were erased when the tracking was finished)
They were just jamming in the studio. He sounds that way on work tape versions of Relayer as well, he was just noodling, trying to figure some as he went
You simply cannot be a true Yes fan and not love Tales. It faithfully expresses the very soul of these geniuses.
gotta say the original recording of the ancient was pretty awful, thankfully we have the steven wilson remixes
An Epic LP~4 Absolutely Splendid Tracks...
@@EyesackWorleyI disagree.

Which city was that, I saw them 4 times on the Tales tour, would have gone every night, if it were possible.

I remember these times. Yes were unbelievably creative during the mid 70s
YES they were. I just checked on Steve Howe, he is 74 years old and still a guitar master. Wow!
Many people here just don't catch the idea that this is simply a studio tape. It's nonsense to compare it to a final version. And doing so, you just miss the opportunity to hear this fabulous guys creating. That's where Art is.
i have listen to Yes during a long time, i begin in mid 70s and still listen to them now
Yes!!
All my life
Until my dead
Unique!!

Thanks so much for share. Great YES Music.
Great performance and arrangements.
💯🎼
The Serpentine and Eastern Number are beautiful drafts of songs that were recorded later. Interesting to see how songs and arrangements are born.
FKN AMAZING. This allowed me to get deeper into the HEART of YES even after 52 years. Their process of MAGI is too incredible!
First time I ever listen to this. I’m amazed and mesmerized. Unbelievable.
A gift for the hardest of the Yes hardcore. We thank you.
This is unreal!! Another version of Oceans....I love this. Different parts, so cool!❤❤

D'accord avec vous
OMG. Even a demo of “Awaken” is here. Amazing.

Great, i never heard The Serpentine before
It became "To be over" later.
Still love this music after 50 years we see john everytime he tours our next show rick wakeman and anne haslam in march
38:00 Wow !!! Incredible jam session.

Most of us have imitated his lettering 😀👍
Saw them at MSG Sold out 3 nights in a row
Keit, ¡Immensely grateful for giving us this gem
¡Inmensamente agradecidos por brindarnos esta gema!
interesting mixes.....thanx for the upload!
WHOA DID TO BE OVER COME FROM SERPENTINE??? that's so cool
Indeed!
OOH AND EASTERN NUMBER BECAME AWAKEN
Wow did they refine that second song to hell and back
The beginning of the song is the end of To Be Over from Relayer
What a rich sound! Wonderful time, where there was a true quest to create musical art, without rules.
Genius music!🤩
Thx Keith, didn't know this one exists ❤
Tales from topographic oceans , lo mismo pero más barato . Me gusta . Felicidades !
Wow, just beautiful. Thank you
excellent work!!

Its too passive i think to be a tales song imo, really it only worked when they got ahold of that awesome church organ
Awesome!
"All Fighters Past" belongs here too, from the 2015 Fragile CD.
fantastic, thanks!
Gracias!!!
To be over!!! All Howe ❤
That is awesome!
Thanks for this. 👍
Compré un cassette el los 80' , en el tianguis de cd. Neza Mex. Por $10 pesos o tan grande sorpresa 😊
Sometimes, no, most of the time, we don't need to know how the sausages are made.
Ahh, The revealing science of God. Classic.

Interesting version ...but I miss Chris' and Steves voices
What happened to this song? We once knew so well...(one of my favourite lines ever😂)
Thanks ❤
26.16 there is a bit Bodast in it (is it nether street?) Have to look it up in my collection
It's Tomorrow - Real Life Permanent Dream
Великолепно)
Does anyone know if the for this moment demo is from the period or was it recorded later?
The serpentine" is an early "To be over" and "Eastern tune" is a sketch of "Awaken"
Thanks!!❤
Hare Krishna Hare krishna Krishna krishna hare hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!!!!!❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊2024🤔🤨😐😑😶🙄😏😗😙😚☺🙂🤗🤩
Demos - yes. Alternative album - no. If it had been, I'd never have bought it, that's for sure.
Interesting...but I am sure glad they fixed up LEAVES...lol
Also Awaken without keys.. Wakeman not yet back in band at this point I take it?

Great trip inside yes❤❤y me
I would’ve included the high the memory early version as well, but to each their own
Yes, I agree that I should have, as well as "All Fighters Past."

TFTO, you mean? I’ve always felt it’s very much underated!!!
Serpentine became 'To Be Over'
My bad, I think this came fron the "Relayer" album.
Ciekawa wersja
C'est bien vrai ça...

Dance of the dawn était moins intéressant au niveau claviers bien que les chorus soient les mêmes !!

What ????
thank you for your inteest. you can leave now. dont call us we'll call you
Jon's voice not at his best here, in my opinion.
They were just jamming in the studio. He sounds that way on work tape versions of Relayer as well, he was just noodling, trying to figure some as he went
