    With the brief respite from the cold, rain and snow I finally got a chance to ride and review the Mutt Mongrel 250cc motorcycle. The last video we did on this topic was so popular I just had to do a full review video. I hope everyone enjoys it and I tried to answer many of the questions that people posted in the comments last time round. Enjoy!

    How is it shifting? I understand you weren't familiar with the ergos, but does it shift quickly and smoothly? Do you reckon it would handle occasional motorway use? Thanks :)

      Hi Lisa, thanks for the question. It was fairly clunky if I'm honest, but as you suggest I'm familiar with sportbike shifting and seating position. Shifting was an event rather than something that just happens naturally/automatically. Almost like doing everything in slow motion, throttle down, clutch in, make a overemphasised shift if that makes sense. Also, I noticed it was really hard to fit my boot under the lever to change up. I was wearing RST Tractech Evo 3 Boots size 10. It might be easier if you have smaller feet or are more using casual protective footwear. It could handle motorway use but it is a little underpowered (I get its not a 600 😂 and not meant to be) but this becomes apparent when doing 60+ mph or with a pillion. My Dad who is not into speed at all is looking at changing to the new Mutt Imperial 400cc single when that is release for this reason.

      I guess try a few, the lexmoto vendetta is similar and cheaper. I'm going for the Royal Enfield Meteor which is the same price. The reviews of the meteor are fantastic but there might be a wait to get one...

    Good review, I’ve been looking for a smaller cc daily ride. I think the mutt is not quite there yet, hopefully in a year or two the next version might be the one.

      Mutt have just teased a 400cc called the imperial which is tempting but the quality issues would put me off. I'm looking forward to the RE meteor 350 which is released here in May. That I like!

      Although they are Chinese they are quality controlled in the UK. It's like KTM have there bikes built in India but are quality controlled in Austria. Also they have 2 years free warranty so it's not too bad

    • @MindfulMotorcyclist
      @MindfulMotorcyclist  3 роки тому +1

      The reliability isn't that great in our experience. There is an engine cutting out issue that we are diagnosing (either fuel contaminants or something within the fuel system itself), the speedometer obviously broke and a rattle from the exhaust mount.

    Couple of things I’m just over 6 foot (14.5 stone) and I’m Big enough guy would this bike be suitable for me without me looking to big on it, also would it be okay for long motorway riding baring in mind I’m not a speed demon I’m happy cruising at 70

    • @MindfulMotorcyclist
      @MindfulMotorcyclist  3 роки тому +2

      I'm 5'11 and 80kg (whatever that is in old money must be 14 stone ish), I think it looks fine. For long motorway riding it has no fairing so you'd get buffeted by the wind. I'm personally going to look at the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 when that gets released as I want a bigger bike which will be more stable for longer rides, that comes out in May and is £3750 so very similar to the Mutt in price.

    its a shame these are the quality/price they are, one needs to go up or the other down! i love the idea of a runaround thats light and quicker than a 125 and these are really the only type of bike i can think of along with the vendetta which seems to be discontinued.

    • @MindfulMotorcyclist

      Agreed. I think a lot of it is successful marketing, the end product isn't quite as polished as it could be. Now Royal Enfield has brought out the Meteor (£4k/350cc) that will also compete in this category.

      @@alexcunningham4927 In our experience not very well. The needle came off the instrument cluster (though I note in a recent press release Mutt are upgrading the clusters to semi-digital) and also there is an engine cutting out issue. This was traced back to debris in the fuel so now we are going to filter the fuel to see if it originates from the forecourt or some flaking inside the tank. Here's hoping its a garage issue (though it is BP so you would expect to have high standards)

      @@alexcunningham4927 Agreed the engine is meant to be very reliable. One thing which could be different is my Dad rides it on a very short commute (4miles each way) and in all weathers, come rain or snow. People always say short journeys are worse for engine health.
