In today's video, Gary shows us step by step how to strip and clean an air rifle trigger. In this case, it's the Air Arms CD Trigger, and after the strip and clean Gary gives it a polish and lubricates it for best performance.

Great video Gary, any chance of doing a stripdown and polish of a record trigger?

    Ahh, Zelda.
Used to date her in the 80’s.
    And the great Windsor Davies.
    AKA Sgt. Mjr. Zero.
    Pure class.
And Gary is spot on about polishing triggers.
Be really careful of taking of too much meat. And also be Teally careful not to introduce any wedge (angle) into the surfaces.
Triggers rely on all touch surfaces being in absolutely in the same plain. Any angle will ruin the feel you are trying to improve.
Best way to avoid this is to continually move the orientation of the piece as you polish it.
Always aim to keep it level but moving the orientation reduces the chance of introducing wedge.
40 years of optical polishing has taught me something useful. 😂

Nearly fell off my chair when I saw the photo from Mukarnas in the title! We’ve literally just returned from there on Tuesday. And yes I did win the air rifle shooting 😉

I did it and I’m really pleased. Also fitted a row an engineering adjustable trigger blade that I really like. Thanks 👍

Fantastic story about meeting Windsor Davis, I could visualise everything 😂😂. Trigger strip down probably something I will never do with my farmer fingers.
Worth watching just for your story 👍👍

Another great video. I've watched all of shootingatdawn's videos and love them. This one is clearer on the reassembly steps, which is what held me back from taking my CD triggers apart for a polish. Thanks Gary :)

Thanks Gary, after seeing you can do a trigger job, I pulled the trigger (smirk) and got my own mk2 trigger out of its housing for the first time since owning it (end of 2017). Definately makes a big difference! thanks! see you at a range soon I hope! atb Oscar

Such a shame they don’t make sitcoms like ‘It ain’t half hot mum’ anymore. I think the script writers were brilliant. Unfortunately, those brilliant episodes are no longer seen, because of the PC brigade. Now regarding your video. As always, very entertaining and informative. I have a TX 200. Although the trigger is fine at the moment, it may well need a polish and some adjustment in the future. Cheers Gary. 👍

Hi Gary, Thanks for your videos, always full of humour and good information 🙂 I don't want to seem like a keyboard warrior but would add a little to your content. An area that many people forget to polish is the underside of the bottom sear where the first and second stage grub screws contact. This area is very often rough from the factory and as the ends of the grub screws have to slide a little the smoother it is the better. Also at the end of your video, adjusting the "trigger weight" screw will not change how sensitive the break point is as it does not affect the sear engagement. To do this you need to adjust the second stage screw clockwise in very small amounts to increase the second stage engagement, remembering that any adjustment of the second stage will also change the length of the first stage which may then need adjusting, it's a balancing act. Keep up the good work

Hi Gary great videos, and I'm sure this will be no exception! just about to press play!
Quick question, which may have been asked before, how much land (with suitable backdrop) would you need for a competition HFT shoot, sq metres / acreage etc.
Perhaps a video of how one is set-up may even be a good topic to explore.

Hi Garry. One of the things I was looking forward to when I retired, was some more time with my airgun. I saw the various shoots around the country and thought that would be realy good to attend. I had looked at accomadation and dates,. However, in Scotland, we have to get third party to sign our air gun cert. Now i am Autistic spectrum and my social skills are not that good, I have a very limited number of aquaintances, so after I retired, i could not find anyone I felt that could sign my air rifle cert, (Perviously done by people at work.) Had to hand in my air rifle to comply with the law. I had found great solace and mindfullness in an hour or so of shooting, I had a great feeling of relaxation and mental rest. Sadly no more. There must be others the same as me, anything we/I can do to highlight this as it seems unfair.

I'm sorry to hear that mate, how close to the border with England are you, there are some clubs that have loan rifles or could possibly hold your rifle for you.

Great stuff Gary, even after 40 years of shooting I'm still learning!. Just an idea but maybe you could pop in a quick guide about rifle storage for beginners in one of your excellent videos as not much is mentioned about this topic on UA-cam and it can have bad consequences if stored outside in winter both for pcp and springers, especially if you are just occasional shooter, take care, Paul.

Windsor Davies was the voice behind the Spheroids. And with that latter name it feels like the Anusol is needed again…

Great video Gary. Do you every use a trigger pull gauge to measure the weight or just go by what feels right? If you do have a preferred weight for trigger to break , what is it?

Paying so much for a rifle one will expect the trigger to be top quality and finished perfectly. My Gamo's trigger is better finished than that out of the box.
