Prior to the black panther dlc, I was telling all my friends how I thought black panther would be the perfect choice to make a full fledged game off of. When I was saying this, insomniac's spiderman had been out a couple months, so a 3D open world beat em up in wakanda sounded awesome. Meanwhile here we are getting a piece of black panther centric media a couple years later...and it's an expansion on avengers.
Imagine having to make choices as leader of Wakanda, if you want to open it to the world but putting the country in the global crosshairs, or stay isolated but with less outside support for internal conflict. Do you lend a hand to the outside world or focus on your own people's issues? I guess a shitty DLC for a shitty GAAS beatemup is cool too...

Honestly it's just the live service part that screwed it up. A single player action/adventure that's mostly a brawler with RPG elements sounds perfectly reasonable for a video game. It should be doable and it should turn out well with basically any competent dev team and enough of a budget. It's not that those ingredients don't go together. They *should* make for a tasty meal. They could have made it similar to how Transformers Devastation handles its gameplay and RPG mechanics. The problem with most marvel things these days is that they try to replicate the movies instead of doing something new. I’m sick of new cartoons and games just trying to be the mcu
The MCU is mostly trash, so that being their inspiration is bound to produce the same. I hope Insomniac completely destroys Spiderman MCU with their next game in terms of story telling and characters.
I like the MCU, but I'm eternally bitter because the excellent series Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes got cut short to make way for the much less impressive Avengers Assemble.
They try so hard to make like the MCU but fail spectacularly. the Marvel spiderman 2017 cartoon is the WORST spiderman cartoon ever to exist in my humble opinion. the animation is trash, the stories are poorly paced, and the characters designs are about as bland as vanilla ice cream. It made me appreciate the Ultimate Spiderman Cartoon.
I remember the 2019 conference, and everyone being upset they spent more time talking about their live service model than explaining wtf the game was about. Everyone just wrote it off as another shameless cash grab at that point.
Goodness gracious, you can tell games like this were only made as a way to make share holders happy as the MCU was a juggernaut of a franchise and wanted to rush it out. If you want to make a game like this, why not take your time with it, even if it took at least five years, it would be much better as a game, plus the single player would need to be the main priority, make it open world as it did Insomniac's Spiderman games so much better. You could tell this game is a massively rushed mess. Game designing takes time and should not be rushed no matter what.
Part of me wishes this would have been done as a sort of "Marvel Gaming Universe" to coincide with the MCU. And you lead up to the Avengers game with solo titles that help establish the remixed characters and world building of the "MGU", pretty much how the MCU did with Phase 1.
@@skibot9974 4 years, they got started in 2014 and finished it in 2018. You could say they managed to make Miles Morales game in 2 years, but that was really just a long DLC. I believe that was actually one of its biggest problems at the time when this game finally got revealed and we saw a trailer Avengers endgame practically came out a few months ago and our journey with the OG six Avengers sort of came to a close in endgame and many people at the time and still would not be open to change despite the fact that these characters have been in games long before the MCU was a thing

Its telling to compare this game to the somewhat contemporaneous release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 which not only embraced its comic book (not MCU) elements while setting modest goals for its gameplay model, and thus made much more money via having far less overhead costs.
They had one rule: MAKE A GOOD GAME. Insomniac and Rocksteady poured their hearts out to make their games the best they could, and in the end it worked out for them financially! Make a good game, people will like it, people will buy. Square Enix failed at this. They're focused on grinding and purchasing more and more, and that's not the correct way to go about it.
I didn't care about the wait, but once they started ignoring players feedback, and lying to the few new players they got, I lost all respect for these devs, also all the lazy skins they keep adding while the game is still full of day 1 bugs is just disappointing.
“There hadn’t been a big ambitious game to take advantage of the teams mega star status” It’s stuff like this that makes me wonder if people really do look down on lego games. At least lego avengers didn’t make me pay them a stupid amount for shitty skins. Hell if I remember correctly they had even a few dlc for spider-man or something
I have yet to see a person, who looked upon LEGO games with disdain, you always get what you expect, with a quality control yet to faulter, remaining one of the rare cases of "kids game that doesn't think about children as exploitable dumbasses who can't understand nuance and would eat up any kind of shit, and you could actually enjoy them playing as an adult"
Having played 3 of them I can say I do. Maybe it’s because they were earlier ones(Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman) but while Star Wars was good, the others felt very cookie cutter.
I really tried to justify myself getting it. I mean, I love superheroes. I love videogames about superheroes. And not just that, I loved the entire concept of a game where I could play as the Avengers with unique movesets and take advantage of their team-like qualities to get through obstacles! Unfortunately, the thing that truly kills it for me is that repetitive empty landscape they put you in for each objective. It feels like there's nothing to do. And that's...really surprising in a game with a bunch of people with superpowers and semi-unique moves to each other.
This title man, I had so much hope for this, even when I shouldn't, since Crystal Dynamics never made a game like this, and at this scale. Square did the "Showed off the game too early", and making their own mark on Marvel, with the amount of talent behind it... So now, it's so freakin' rough with how bad this went, like, I can't sugarcoat it. The bugs, the look, the entire thought process, PLUS COVID! When Destiny didn't launch well, and took it's time to get to where it is today, but Avengers doesn't have Destiny's luck or patience. I haven't played the game in months, but I still want to like it, maybe Black Panther's expansion will change it, or Square Enix will double down on making sure Guardians NEVER ends up like this, and making sure everyone knows it.

The MCU's okay, but when translated to a video game it just looks really bland and unexciting. Making superheroes play like typical game characters in pretty standard looking environments just makes them seem extra mundane.
I think that's a good point-- I'm so used to seeing Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor do the things they do, it's not special to me. One Punch Man has so much excitement, even Dragon Ball Z characters seem like such legendary heros, but at this point I can't help but be sick and tired of MCU characters. There's nothing special about them really, I don't know what it is, but something about them is so expected and normal that I can't feel properly excited anymore.
@@LostHope84 No it's more that normal superheros are boring. Tell me, if you were going to make a Superman movie, who would care? He saves Lois Lane, he fights Lex Luther, he should have massive incredible superpowers but it just amounts to the destruction of buildings. Everybody is sick and tired of old American superheros-- there's nothing left to say about them or do with them. My point is that anime is often far better written than American action movies. "One Punch Man" is a show about a guy who can kill anything with one punch. It makes him stronger than any god, any beast, and it's caused him to become lazy and disinterested in the things that used to give him joy; he's purposeless now that he's achieved his goal of strength. THIS Is what Superman should be-- according to the comics, Superman's punch should liquify you, but American movies are afraid to show that. Superman should have an interesting psyche being the strongest thing alive, but instead he's some boring goody-two-shoes. My point isn't that "yellow hair + screaming = good show", I'm saying that anime treats it's heroes with the hype and legendary status that they deserve, while american films are afraid to let their heroes actually feel like super heroes, and instead just feel like soulless puppets that do whatever the plot requires in order to get to the next action scene. Maybe they will make good Batman movies in the future, but as far as I can see, I would much rather see anything else besides another "legendary ultra showdown for marvel characters" when they're all the same and are completely uninteresting.

And dont get me started on the varied villain factions between hellfire club, maggia, HYDRA, AIM, frost giants, Hel troops, the circle off eight, Demons. A facebook game had more variety off roster and char and use even if at some points mutants werent as used thanks to PErlmutter's meddling It still makes me wonder how did Square fail so bad
Bought this game 2 weeks before it got delisted with all of the DLC and microtransactions removed (the "Definitive Edition"), and even without the live service BS, it still felt kinda bland; don't get me wrong, the gameplay is fun and feels good, but there's almost no substance that makes me go back to play anything that isn't the story mode. Also Matt, if you're reading this, She-Hulk was going to be added, but got scrapped alongside the game entirely...
So now that they can't get any more new players into buying the game, they're gonna bleed the hell out of the players that already bought it, with DLC. Sounds promising.

But live service is the meth abusing chef that slams a trash can on the stove for no reason, thus spilling the soup.

I've seen an article about how the Avengers player count on Steam was hitting 0 multiple times within the last month. Even the game has dropped to as low as $15 dollars on sale.
It's a bit upsetting that they didn't take any real inspiration from the comics and just made a story that attempts to clone the MCU.
They were probably forced to do so. Still, to the game merits, loved how they wrote Dr. Banner compared to the mcu.
The MCU's okay, but when translated to a video game it just looks really bland and unexciting. Making superheroes play like typical game characters in pretty standard looking environments just makes them seem extra mundane.
Same go when they try to implented them in comics and cartoon.

However, the media it appears in, for instance "Dragon Ball FighterZ", the Dragon Ball fighting game, is a perfect representation of the strength and style of it's characters, whereas comic book video games often feel homogenous, as the original comment was saying.
Going watch the video again after hearing the recent news for Marvel's Avengers.

Oh that Facebook game, i still miss it so much.
ANd seeing what MCu showed with the 2017 movies and all that potential left for the missions...having Yondu added, and still solving a few stuff.
Not to mention the one time you can have howard the duck team up with squirrel girl, or any combination off the heroes arround even recent or obscure ones.
And dont get me started on the varied villain factions between hellfire club, maggia, HYDRA, AIM, frost giants, Hel troops, the circle off eight, Demons. A facebook game had more variety off roster and char and use even if at some points mutants werent as used thanks to PErlmutter's meddling
It still makes me wonder how did Square fail so bad
Marvel Future Revolution on mobile may fill that Marvel Heroes fix in late September when it releases worldwide.
Fans are trying to bring it back with MAA Redux. I am keeping an eye on it. I miss that game a lot.
I couldn't help feeling like I had played this game before the whole time, and it finally hit me:
This is like someone looked at DC Universe Online and said "Hey, let's make that, except take the entire MMO aspect out of it."
Dude DC Universe online just ripped off another game called Champion's online from back in the day.
@@galanakagalactus903 Was that related to City of Heroes? Cuz I played that, but I liked that DCUO went in more like a beat em up direction.
@@WraxTV Yeah it's the sequel. They made the first Superhero mmo but nobody ever gives them credit for it. And they had allot of Marvel and DC references too. Not saying that i don't like DCUO though. It's a really fun game.
@@galanakagalactus903 Yeah I friggin' loved City of Heroes. For the time, it was one of the best character creators I'd ever messed with.
Never played Champions so I'm not sure how much DCUO copied from it, but going from CoH to DCUO, I liked the more direct input controls as opposed to the more traditional "click on a spot to move there" style of CoH.
Which yeah, my comparisons of DCUO and Avengers come more from a game feel thing than anything else. Monetization wise, it's clear Avengers is a very thinly veiled attempt to copy Anthem.
@@WraxTV Cryptic Studios made _City of Heroes,_ but NCSoft (publisher) owned the IP. So Cryptic budded off Paragon Studios to run _City_ while Cryptic bought the _Champions_ IP (not a license, they bought the whole IP) and made _Champions Online._ Arguments abound as to which was the better game, but _Champions_ is the game that's still running.
Cryptic has since made _Star Trek Online_ and _Neverwinter_ (2013).

It is september 2022 and since launch almost 2 years ago, only 4 characters were added to Avengers and they announced that Winter Soldier will join them. Not Falcon, not Ant-Man and the Wasp, not Vision, not Captain Marvel, but a character wasn't actually Avengers member until he was named next Captain America.

I can't believe Sony even promised to let their character spiderman into Marvel's Avengers
It isnt their character. They only own the film rights
@@retrohero2762 Thank you. Someone with common sense. I can't believe people seriously in 2021 still think that Sony owns the video game rights to Spiderman. Just look in the credits of literally any Spiderman game ever made from any time period aside from Spiderman PS4 and you can see Sony is nowhere to be seen in the credits. I was thinking the same thing. Hell, just rip off the structure of the Lego video games if you need a template to build off of. Have an open world in NYC and then maybe have linear missions on the side. And have expansions follow that, with maybe new hub areas in different locales.
